Season 3, Episode 3: The End Of The Affair
NOTE; The italicized parts are flashbacks. Do not confuse the present and past.
The episode starts with Katherine calling Damon where she reveals Stefan's whereabouts because she's been tracking both Klaus and him.
Stefan and Klaus arrive back at Chicago and a flashback starts of when Stefan was a ripper.
Stefan is in his own pub when he meets a vampire girl. She intrigues him.
Klaus tells Stefan that they were going to meet his favourite witch.
Elena wakes up at 6 am to find Damon beside her in bed and she freaks out. He tells her to start packing because Stefan is in Chicago.
On the way, Damon gives her Stefan's diary but she refuses to read it initially but then Damon starts reading it aloud for her so she grabs it from him. "Eyes on the road Grandma" -Elena.
Once they arrive at Chicago, Damon takes Elena to Stefan's house there where he reveals the names of Stefan's victims carved into the wall of a hidden spot behind a cupboard.
Care's dad demands to know how she walks in the sun and she indicates towards the ring. He takes it off and tortures her with sunlight. He tells her that he will continue to do so until she is able to control her urge and is immune to human blood while she cries out that she has adapted to the lifestyle and can control herself. She is later on saved her by her mother and Tyler. Back home, Liz comforts Care and assures her that her father will understand her again soon. Tyler then appears and Liz leaves them alone.
"Would now be a bad time to give you crap for sneaking out on me?" Tyler teases her. She starts to cry and tells him that her father hates her. Tyler hugs her.
Stefan asks the vampire for her name but she won't say.
Klaus and Stefan meet Gloria, the witch. While Stefan is making a drink, he finds a picture of him and Klaus smiling. He is shocked. Gloria tells Klaus that she needs Rebecca because only Rebecca knows how to contact the original witch who created the spell.
Klaus reveals to Stefan how they were once upon a time friends.
Stefan and the vampire girl are seen kissing. Stefan asks her about her necklace which she says is given by a witch. Then Klaus appears and it's revealed that he's her brother. Later, they're seen sitting at a table where Stefan forces a human to drink blood for their entertainment and Klaus is impressed.
But as Stefan and Rebecca [Vampire girl/Klaus's sister] are dancing the pub is rained with wooden bullets. Klaus makes Stefan forget him and Rebecca and leaves the pub because he knows they're after him and Rebecca.
Klaus opens a coffin where Rebecca lies. He takes out the knife and goes to a pub with Stefan where Gloria is. But before Stefan and Klaus go there, Damon visits. He knows Gloria and she tells him the two will be back there that night. Elena is left at the house where Klaus and Stefan appear. She hides in Stefan's secret cupboard. Stefan sees her there and distracts Klaus, saving her.
Later, Stefan and Damon confront each other and Stefan yells at him. He tells Damon to take Elena home and tell her to forget about him but Elena appears and Damon goes to distract Klaus.
Elena asks Stefan to come home and hugs him. Just as she's about to inject him, he grabs her arm and yells at her telling her that he doesn't wanna come home. He tells her he doesn't want to be with her anymore. "I want you to go." -Stefan.
Damon is almost killed by Klaus but saved by Gloria.
"Not in my bar. Take it outside."- Gloria.
Damon asks Elena if she's okay in the car. "Just drive."- Elena.
Klaus and Stefan return to where Rebecca was and then Stefan is given his memory back. He suddenly remembers Klaus as his brother-like friend and Rebecca as the girl he liked and possibly even loved.
Rebecca, however is for sure in love with him.
Klaus tells Rebecca they need to leave but she tells him that she won't leave without Stefan. He asks her to choose and she chooses Stefan so Klaus stabs her.
Klaus tells Rebecca that Gloria told him that she knew how to contact the original witch. Rebecca starts looking for her necklace which Elena has now.
Katherine's final flashback as she enters a taxi: Stefan picks up Rebecca's necklace and he's shown some sketches of Klaus and Rebecca but he doesn't recognize who they are.
