"Father-son jodi of Pankaj Kapur and Shahid Kapoor can continue to battle the world and think about areas where MAUSAM failed; it is their prerogative after all. However for Sonam, it could well be a bad dream that she would want to forget soon," says an industry insider, "What's the point for her to reflect on the film's failure; in any case she hadn't bargained for this. When she got into the film, she wouldn't have expected that it would be such a poorly made film. Not just that as the film also cost her over one and a half years. She deserved better."
Sonam can well curse her luck here because each of her film that has been perceived as a classic-in-the making has only turned out to be a bigger disappointment than the last one. SAAWARIYA, DELHI 6 and MAUSAM - all promised to change the face of Hindi cinema, only to fall flat on her face.
"Sonam has done enough of experimenting," says a trade source, "It is time for her to play safe and do some conventional cinema that goes well with her otherwise chic persona. Everyone saw how good she was when put into a set up like I HATE LUV STORYS. Everyone benefited from that film which was a clean hit. Even AISHA, despite its many flaws, was accepted to a decent degree since Sonam played her age and also got her style sense on display loud and clear. These are the kind of films that do justice to her personality. The likes of MAUSAM can clearly wait." š
