We Want Divorce

Story of two strangers who get married to each other by accident

Part 1

In Amritsar...

Geet is travelling in a local bus. She is looking out of the window and lost in some thoughts. At the next bus stop, some people board the bus and there is a little commotion which brings geet out of her thoughts. She turns her gaze towards the direction of the noise and notices that two men are fighting over a seat.

Man 1 : i am the one who boarded the bus first. This seat belongs to me

Man 2: oye chup kar! This seat belongs to the bus and this bus belongs to the government not you. get lost!

Saying this, the second man sits on the seat pushing the first man aside. The first man is looking at the seat helplessly. Geet feels bad for the first man and she calls him out loudly

G(Geet): Bhai Saab

The man and other passengers look around and wonder who is calling whom. Geet again calls him..

G: Bhai Saab! Zara is taraf dekhiyena

This time the man notices geet and stares at her questioningly. Geet smiles at him

G: Bhai Saab! Idhar ayiyena

The man comes close to geet hesitantly. Geet points to the seat beside her and asks the man to be seated

G: bhai Saab! Baitiyena

The man hesitates to sit beside her

G: baitiyena

The man sits on the seat next to geet

G: are you new to Amritsar?

Man 1: ji

G: where are you from?

Man 1: Delhi

G: Gabraye math bhai saab! Amritsar is city of love and brotherhood. Here people are very loving and caring...

The Man turns towards the man who just now pushed him aside and occupied the seat. Geet follows his gaze and understands what he must be thinking right now. The Man turns toward geet and looks at her questioningly. Geet smiles at him uncomfortably...

G: woh Bhai saab! One or two people are rude like him. But generally Amritsar people are loving and caring. Trust me. Babaji par kasam

The man smiles at geet. she is relieved and smiles at him.

Geet starts her bak bak...

Geet keeps on talking about Amritsar and its people and the man is silently listening to her. after sometime the man too involves himself in the conversation and both of them are talking about their respective cities.

After few minutes...

G: waise Bhai saab! Aap ka naam kya hai?

Man 1: Adi

Geet smiles

G: main Geet hu

Adi: bohat achi naam hai

G: thanks bhai saab

Adi: how long it will take to reach the District Court?

G: 10 minutes

Adi takes a deep breath...

Adi : are you working somewhere?

G: am i looking that old?

Adi: matlab?

G: i am still in college

Adi smiles

G: anyways, i don't think that you are young enough to study in a college. What are you doing?

Adi: i am...

Adi's phone rings, he takes out his mobile and notices that it is maan's call

Adi: (to geet) my boss's call. excuse me

G: ji

Geet again looks out of the window

Adi attends the call

Adi: ji sir

M (Maan): Adi! kahan ho tum?

Adi: sir! I am on the way to the court. Just 10 minutes sir... I will be there

M: have you found that girl?

Adi: girl? Which girl sir?

Maan rolls his eyes

M: Adi! have you forgotten everything? Tumse koi kam teek se hota hai kya?

Adi: Sir woh...

M: i told you na to arrange for a girl to act as my fiancee in front of dadima

Adi: haan! Yaad aagaya sir. I have found her and i have made all the arrangements. She will be at the mansion in half an hour

M: What is her name?

Adi: geet

Geet is confused to hear her name and she turns towards adi and looks at him questioningly. Adi didn't notice geet's questioning eyes.

Maan is also confused

M: geet? but the other day you were saying some other name?

Adi realises that he has said a wrong name and he corrects immediately

Adi: (stammers) sorry... sir! ...Galti hogayi. The girl's name is not geet but Pari.

Geet is relieved.

Maan is annoyed and he rolls his eyes

M: teek hai. better make sure that the right girl reaches the mansion. samja tum?

Adi: ji sir

M: come soon. I and Chandu are waiting in the court. It is getting late for his marriage

Adi: ji Sir

Maan cuts the call

Geet is still looking at Adi. he smiles at her

Adi: mera boss thoda khadus hai

G: are you scared of him?

Adi: bohat

Geet smiles

G: waise, where are you working?

Adi: i am working as PIMP in Khurana Const...

That's it. Hearing the word 'Pimp', Geet is hell shocked. Before adi finishes his sentence, geet interferes

G: what? are you a Pimp?

Adi:(Laughs) he he he...ji

Adi's phone conversation about a girl comes to Geet's mind

G: (st(selftalk)) Hey babaji! am i talking with a pimp? What if he kidnaps me and sells to a red light area?

Geet is horrified by her thought. She gets up from her seat immediately and runs towards the exit. Adi tries to stop geet

Adi: behen ji rukhiye!

G:(lies) bhai saab. I have to get down at the next stop

G: (st) babaji! madad karna

She comes to the exit and waits for the bus to stop at the next stop

After few seconds, Adi notices a bag on the seat on which geet was sitting a few moments ago

Adi: (st) she has forgotten her bag

Adi calls geet to tell her about her bag

Adi: behen ji

Geet is too scared to turn toward Adi. She pretend that she didn't hear him

G: (st) why is he calling me? was he talking about me on the phone? He mentioned my name to his so called boss. Who is his boss? Yeh kya ho raha hai babaji?

Adi: Geet ji

G: (st) babaji!

Adi: i think she didn't hear me

Adi takes the bag and walks toward geet.

Geet turns slightly and looks over her shoulder to see if Adi is still looking at her.

To her dismay, adi is walking toward her. she is terrified

G: (st) why is he coming toward me?

Adi is just a step away from geet. at the right moment, the bus stops and geet almost jumps down and starts to run. Adi is confused and he too jumps down with the bag in his hand and starts to run behind geet

Adi: behen ji! Rukhiye...aap ki bag...Geet Ji

Geet is not in a position to hear Adi's words. She keeps on running.

Adi: geet ji! Aap ki bag...

Adi is tired of running behind geet. he stops and breaths heavily.

Adi: (st) hey bhagavan! This girl must be a gold medallist in running competetion. How fast she runs!! Jaan nikal gayi mujhe. Lekhin...why is she running from me?

Geet keeps on running and after few seconds, she realises that her bag is not with her.

G: (st) arey! Where is my bag?

Geet stops. Adi is relieved to see that geet has stopped running

Adi: (st) acha hua. She has stopped

Geet turns toward Adi who is carrying her bag and she is shocked.

Adi is about to walk toward geet, but his mobile rings at the right moment. It is again maan on the line. Adi attends the call

M: adi! i am waiting. Where are you?

Adi: sir! I am running behind a girl

M:(confused) kya?

Adi: haan sir! She was my co passenger in the bus. She left her bag in the bus...

Maan is too impatient to listen to Adi's lengthy story

M: Adi! if you don't come to the court in five minutes, i will finish you off today. Samja tum?

Adi is scared to death

Adi: ji...ji sir

Maan cuts the call

Adi: (st) Ek taraf maan sir aur dusri taraf P.T. Usha ki behen yeh geet. hey bhagavan! Aap mere saath yesa kyun kar rahe hai?

Adi: geet ji! Rukhiye. I am tired of running behind you

(Oye stupid Adi! Geet has already stopped running)

G: (st) hey babaji! ab main kya karu? my bag is with that pimp?

Geet is scared to go close to Adi to get her bag from him.

G: (st) dar math geet! ab kuch socho

Geet looks around and notices that the place is reasonably crowded. She squeezes her brain and an idea strikes her brain. She self appreciates her idea.

G: (st) wow geet wow...what an idea to kill two birds with one stone! Now- a- days, your brain works like anything. with this plan, you can get back your bag from that pimp and at the same time teach him a lesson too.

Geet gathers some courage and walks toward adi who is already walking toward her

Geet and Adi come close to each other

Adi: geet ji! Why are you running from me?

G:(st) ye Shaitan ke bache! Are you planning to kidnap me? ab dekho ki what am i going to do to you?

Adi gives geet's bag to her

Adi: yeh leejiye geet ji. Aap ki bag

But instead of taking her bag, geet catches Adi's arm tightly and starts to shout

G: chor...chor... help...chor...

Adi is confused as well as shocked to death

Adi: chor? Behen ji! yeh aap kya kar rahe hai? main koi chor nahi hu

Adi is struggling to get out of geet's hold. but geet gathers all her strength and tightens her grip on Adi's arm

G: (shouts) someone help me... chor chor...

Adi: chodiye mujhe

G: nahi chodungi

Adi: dekhiye! Main chor nahi hu

G: haan haan! I know that you are not a thief but a pimp. You are planning to kidnap me na? now see, what is going to happen to you? hamare Punjab ka naw jawan ke thakkat ko dekho

Adi understands that geet has mistook him for a real pimp

Adi: geet ji! PIMP ke matlab woh nahi hai jo aap samaj rahe hai

G: haan haan! I know enough English to understand the meaning of Pimp. What are you thinking about me? Am i an illiterate?

Adi: nahi ji! Par PIMP matlab...Person In-Charge of...

Geet cuts him short

G: oye chup kar! Ek aur shabd nahi

Adi goes mute

Adi: (st) hey bhagavan! Ye main kahan phas gaya

G: (shouts) chor...chor...

Some people are running toward geet and adi. Geet notices them and she instantly releases adi's arm and holds her bag and pretends to be struggling to get her bag from adi's hold

G: chodiye...meri bag chodiye

Adi is hell shocked by geet's ulta action and he didn't know how to react.

By that time some well-built men come to geet's rescue and crowd surrounds geet and adi. a Sardhar from the crowd asks geet "arey! Putar kya hua"?

G: (to the Sardhar)sat sri akal ji

Sardhar: Sat sri akal putar. Kya hua?

Geet makes a sad face and talks in feeble voice with fake tears

G: (Points to Adi) This man is trying to snatch my bag. Please help me

Adi is silently watching the happening and wondering how to escape

Sardarji and others try to console geet,"gabrayi math putar. Hum log hai na?"

Sardhar: (to Adi) oye teri! Tumara himmat kaise hui ki hamare Amritsar mein chori kar ne ke

Adi: woh...woh...

Sardharji comes close to Adi and snatches geet's bag from his hand and hands it over to Geet

Sardharji: ye lo putar

Geet smirks at Adi and thanks Sardarji

G: thanks bhai saab

Adi: (to Sardhar): dekhiye! I didn't steal her bag

Geet tries to escape from that place

G: (to sardarji) bhai Saab! Mujhe college ke late horahi hai. kya main ja sakthi hu?

Sardhar: (to geet) oye putar! Aaj kal ladkiyon ko padayi bohat zaroori hai. Tum jao putar

Geet smiles at Sardhar

G: shukriya bhai saab

Sardhar starts to beat Adi

Adi screams in pain: aaa...aaa...aaa...please mere baath suniye...maine kuch nahi kiya...don't beat me...she is lying...

Sardhar: now stop your lies? Hamare Punjab ki khudi kabhi jooth nahi bolthi. samja tum?

Adi: haan! Your Punjabi girls never lie. She told me that Amritsar people are very loving and caring. But you are beating me to death. Paaji! Is this the way to show your love and care?

Sardhar simply ignores Adi's lengthy dialogue and continues to beat him and some other people also joins him in beating Adi.

Geet stares at Adi and selftalk: you stupid pimp. Without any mercy, you would have had ruined many innocent women's life. Today is your full-stop. Go to hell.

A: (to geet) behen ji! Please save me...behen ji! please don't do this to me.

Geet gives adi an evil smirk and leaves the place.

At the Amritsar District court...

Maan and Chandu are waiting inside the court campus...

Chandu: (st) why Adi sir didn't come yet? If he didn't come, then who will put the witness signature? Hey bhagavan! After so many years, one girl has agreed to marry me. is mein koi galti na ho.

M: (st) donno...what is wrong with this Adi? what takes him so long to reach here?

Chandu: maan sir...

M: hmmm

Chandu: will Adi sir come?

Maan himself is not sure whether Adi will come or not. So he replies half heartedly

M: hmmm

Chandu: what if Adi sir doesn't come?

M: Adi is just a witness. Your marriage will go on, even if he doesn't come

Chandu: how sir?

Maan is annoyed by chandu's non-stop questions

M: (sarcastically) what do you mean by 'how'? are you going to marry Adi or What?

Chandu: nahi sir

M: nahi na? ab chup hojao

Chandu goes mute

After few seconds...

Chandu: sir...

Before chandu could ask any questions, maan cuts him short

M: ek minute...where is your bride?

Chandu: she is on the way sir. She will be here is in 5 minutes

In order to avoid chandu's further questions, maan tries to send him away

M: now go and look out for your bride at the entrance

Chandu: par sir woh...

M: tum ne suna nahi maine kya kaha?

Chandu leaves the place silently

M: (st) adi ko phir se phone karke dektha hu

The crowd is still beating Adi ...

Adi: please don't beat me...i am innocent...chodiye mujhe

The crowd is nowhere listening to Adi. they are enjoying beating Adi as if he is a brand new punching bag.

Adi: please leave me. my boss is waiting for me in the court. If i don't go there in five minutes, he will kill me

Sardhar: your boss needs five minutes to kill you. we will finish you off in just two minutes

Adi: sardhar ji! Please show me some mercy

Sardhar: oye! Don't talk while we are beating you. Salah! Concentration divert ho jayga

Adi: dekhiye sardharji! This is not fair...

Sardhar: maine kaha na chup

Adi: today evening is my engagement...please leave me. if you beat me like this, how will my fiance identify me?

Sardhar: haan haan! It will be little bit difficult for her to identify your dead body

Adi: please sardarji! Now stop talking about my death. mujhe bohat dar lagtha hai

Sardhar: chup kar

After some time all people except Sardarji leaves the place. But the Sardarji still keeps on beating Adi.

Adi's phone rings..

Adi: excuse me sardhar ji! Atleast give me a break ...i need some rest

Sardhar: kya kaha tumne? Do you need rest? don't worry, in few minutes you will be laid to rest forever

Adi is scared to death

Adi: woh...mera matlab woh nahi tha...

Sardhar: phir kya?

Adi: i mean take a break bhai saab. You must be tired

Sardhar: haan. teek hai

Sardhar ji leaves adi and relaxes his muscles and moves few feet away from Adi

Adi takes his mobile out and checks the caller name. It is maan on the line. Adi is relieved

Adi: (st) acha hua. Maan sir is calling. I can ask him to save me from the sardhar

Adi: hello

M: (shouts) adi! where the hell are you?

Adi is finding it difficult to talk. Somehow he manages to talk

Adi: haan sir! Right now i am almost on the way to the hell

Maan didn't pay any attention to what Adi said

M: adi! ye Chandu ki zindagi ka sawal hai

Adi: sir! My life is also under question

Maan is annoyed

M: Adi! now stop blabbering. i want you to be in the court in two minutes. Am i clear?

Without waiting for Adi's reply, Maan cuts the call.

Adi: maan sir...please don't cut the call

But it is too late. Maan has already cut the call

Adi has lost all the hope of his survival and he is looking at his phone helplessly. Sardharji comes back to adi

Sardhaji: oye! Break khatam hogaya. Shall we start?

Adi curses his fate

Adi: (st) he is asking as if we are playing some game. All my fate..

Sardharji: i think you are too tired to reply. I take your silence for a yes

Saying this, Sardar ji starts to beat Adi again

Adi, the poor soul receives the beating silently. Thanks to our pyaari geet who misunderstood PIMP (Person In-charge of Mega Projects) for a pimp who is involved in flesh trading.

(moral of the story : don't go for short cuts. It will definitely land you in trouble. Had Adi said Person In-charge of Mega Projects instead of PIMP he could have prevented this disaster)
