wow loved this entry, can't wait til next entry.. wonder what's going to happen and what's wrong with Amelia.. Did she see something she shouldn't have? Did she lose family?? Let's see what happens thanks again!!!:D

URGH.
First week back at college & I'm already drained of all energy.
I was planning to update this on the weekend, but I'm feeling down in the dumps because I have my least favourite/most hated subject, History, tomorrow afternoon. For 2 hours. 2 HOURS.
I'm going to dieee.
So before I do, I thought I'd update chapter 5, to make myself feel a little happier & to blow off some steam, as well as keeping you guys satisfied of course.

Chapter 5 - Cobwebs In The Closet

The following morning, Geet was sat in one of the lavish sitting rooms, a clean sheet of paper & pencil in hand. Focusing intently on the drawing before her, she added the finishing touches to sketching the room before her.

Geet had been gifted with a talent of art. Ever since her childhood days, she would draw, anything & everything she could see.

Her drawings had travelled with her from her aunt's house to her boarding school, where she added to her vast collection.

But when she ran away that fateful night, she had left them behind, in an attempt to leave her past behind her & move on.

Amelia rushed into the room & stopped short where Geet sat, on one of the rocking chairs. She peered over at the paper & her eyes widened in surprise.

"Miss Geet, you are an excellent artist!"

"I'm not that good," Geet said, looking up at Amelia's face which had a wondorous expression on it.

"Draw me."

"I... I am not very good at drawing people-"

"Please?"

"You'd have to sit still for an awfully long time. I do not think you could manage that."

"I could."

"Amelia!" came Madhuri's voice from the kitchen. "Come here, darling."

"Promise you'll draw me?" Amelia whispered to Geet as she made her way out of the room.

"Yes, I promise."

The rest of the day had been spent in an idyllic & quiet manner, with Geet entertaining Amelia here & there in between Madhuri feeding them & completing her chores.

Maan had only made a very brief appearance at breakfast, taking two sips of tea before leaving the house & not having returned since.

It was nearing dinner time & Geet had taken her usual position in the kitchen beside Madhuri when the sound of the large house door slamming against the wall was heard.

"Maan sir must be back," Madhuri whispered, facing the door waiting for his arrival. Geet stiffened, suddenly feeling uncomfortable. She saw her escape in the back door & rushed to it, her hand on the handle ready to turn it just as he came into the kitchen & spoke.

"I am visiting the Malhotras tomorrow, Madhuri."

His dark eyes scanned the room then rested on Geet whose eyes were cast downwards, her hand poised on the handle. Her shoulders were hunched & she looked somewhat irritated.

"Were you planning to leave in the middle of my conversation, Miss Geet?" he asked, a tone of annoyance laced with his voice.

"I was going to see how Amelia was."

"I cannot fathom; do you wish to stay or to leave? Only you seem confused with whether you should turn the handle or not."

Geet took a deep breath before looking straight at Maan. "Sir, I did not want to seem rude & disrespectful by interrupting your statement with my sudden departure. However, might I add that instead of making such sarcastic comments, if you wanted me to leave during your conversation, you simply could have said so. I would have been more than happy to oblige."

She opened the door & shut it tightly behind her as she walked away from the house & into the far end of the garden where Amelia was playing, aware of the fact that two eyes bore into her back.

"What a strange creature," Maan hissed, trying to sound irritated by her.

"How long do you plan to stay at the Malhotras?" Madhuri asked as she got back to stirring the dish in the pan.

"As long as I feel is best," he replied, unable to stop his eyes from trailing after the figure which appeared to be walking further & further away from him.

Madhuri had finally called Geet & Amelia in for dinner to be served. Geet followed a running Amelia who dashed straight into the kitchen & into the dining room, then paused at the door. Geet was a few steps behind & stopped just behind Amelia, who was staring at Maan with a terrified expression on her face who sat at the far end of the table as usual, staring mindlessly at the wood before him.

"Amelia, go & sit down," Geet said softly, & Maan instictively looked up at her. She ignored his stare & sat opposite Amelia, waiting patiently.

The dinner eventually arrived, & it was a quiet affair. Geet picked at the food, feeling a loss of appetite. Amelia hardly touched a morsel & was unusually quiet, immersed in swinging her legs from the chair which was too high for her.

Even Maan had only taken a few bites of the starter & pushed his plate away, sipping from his glass of wine instead.

Only Madhuri seemed to be enjoying the fruits of her labour.

After a much prolonged silence, Maan spoke from the far end of the table.

"Miss Geet, I would like to see you in an hour in the drawing room."

Without a further word, he left the room. Geet looked worried; Madhuri placed a reassuring hand on her arm.

"Do not fret my dear. It is probably something & nothing."

Geet had a feeling he was about to probe into her past, which was something she did not appreciate at all. Her past was something she would like to leave behind, she felt it intrusive that a stranger would attempt to uncover her cobwebs in her closet.

The hour passed by fast; too fast; & before she knew it Geet was being ushered to the drawing room by Madhuri, who left her as soon as she had reached the door.

She contemplated before knocking on the door once.

"Come in," came the voice from inside.

She stepped into the warm room, which had a huge fireplace to its left & a table to its right. In between was a rug & on top of it were two armchairs.

Maan sat on one of them, a small coffee table in between with a teapot & two cups of tea.

Geet stood in the doorway, taking the room in.

"Unless you prefer to stand there, I advise that you step inside, close the door & take a seat."

She did as she said & nervously sat opposite him, feeling a little intimidated. Her small hands were folded in her lap, her eyes cast towards the door.

"Miss Geet. What brings you here?" Maan asked, staring intently at her.

"Do you require an answer?" she asked, avoiding eye contact.

"That's what usually follows a question, yes."

"Why is it so neccessary for you to know, sir?"

A short silence followed, as all that could be heard was the crackling of the fire.

"I am trying to figure you out."

"I did not realise that was in my job description."

"Direct answers. Straightforward expressions. Interesting."

Geet refused to retaliate to what she considered as insulting behaviour from him & kept her eyes focused on the patterns of the rug, something which irritated Maan.

"Now you appear transfixed by the rug. Do you think I am handsome, Miss Geet?"

She immediately looked up at him, her eyebrows furrowed into a frown. To her surprise, she could feel a warm blush creep up her cheeks. Maan's serious expression turned into a slow smile, & she looked away before answering.

"No, sir."

"You're blushing," he cocked his head to the side, a regular habit. "It is very becoming on you."

This led her to blush even more. She suddenly felt hot, & sensed that if she stayed in the room with him any longer, she may suffocate.

"Excuse me," she said, standing up in a hurry. "I must take leave, I feel exhausted."

"You do not appear to be like anyone else I've ever encountered," Maan stated, standing up to meet her eyes.

Geet turned away & hurried out of the room, but found herself subconsciously looking back, to find him staring at her. She left the room & closed the door behind her, wondering why her heartbeat had suddenly become so erratic.
