Sitting in the glow of the warm fire Misha looked sideways unsettled. The fight in the jungle, the downpour, the running and now here; all the chaos had caused a terrible headache.
But that's not all that troubled her. The sinister feeling that this rain brought engulfed her making her almost queasy.
She knew something had happened in the jungle. Something uncannily dangerous but she felt now was not the time to ask.
She looked at her cell. Still no signals.
'Danm!' She whispered in anger.
'Hm. Did you say something?' He asked looking up.
Misha looked at the origin of the voice.
Sitting there all dark and gloomy, his hair wild, his shirt half unbuttoned. Struggling to apply medicine on the wound that he had received during the fight in jungle.
'No, nothing much. Just wondering when will the stupid rain stop.'
'Yeah it's been too long.' He replied his tone detached.
Seeing him still struggle to put the medicine over the ugly gash, Misha got up from the comfortable sofa and walked towards the cold hard steps where he sat.
Sitting uncertainly beside him she asked if she could help with the medicine.
He looked at her surprised. 'What? Oh no. No need. Thanks.'
Frowning Misha took the cotton bud from him and slowly got on to applying the medicine over the wound. He did not resist instead just sat there motionless.
'Wow! That must have been one hell of an animal you fought. You are badly hurt!' she said as she stared with wide eyes at the horrible slash at his upper arm.
'Yes.' He replied his voice constrained.
Misha knew there was more to that yes than her comment demanded.
She silently continued to dress the wound while he sat there still as a statue.
As she placed her hand on his shoulders she could feel his muscles taut through his thin cotton shirt. The medicine must be burning the wound but he face showed nothing.
Gently running her hand over his arm she asked him to calm down.
'Jay. It would do well if you would just let yourself ease.'
Still no response from him. Taking a deep breath she continued.
'See I know the past few days have been terribly awful for you. But…believe me it's all going to work out.'
'It's never going to be all right. And you know nothing so please keep your suggestion to yourself.' He snarled.
Stung by his words she looked away.
'I have been there.' She said in almost a whisper.
Jay looked at her confused. She continued not looking at him.
'I have been there where I felt that my whole world has crashed and that nothing will ever be same again. I felt as if I have lost everything. But…but it all worked out. And see now everything is back to normal. All happy!' She managed with a forced smile.
Jay looked at her unconvinced.
'See I know my words may hold no importances for you but you are my friend and I hate to see you like this. We all care about you. And want you to be strong and fight the hard time.'
Seemingly uncharacteristically for her to be the sensible one she shifted uncomfortably on the step. An odd tension filled the air.
Her words did not magically evaporate his worries and fears but did relieve the ache a bit.
She waited for some words of thanks but he thought of keeping quiet as a better option.
An awkward silence fell over, outside the wind howled in pain but the threatening thunders had stopped.
Misha looked at her cell. Signals finally showed that the rain had stopped and it was time to go. Getting up she told him so.
'Well I better go now.' Without looking at her he nodded his head.
'If you need anything I...' She left the words hanging there.
Understanding that she won't be getting more than that she slowly walked to the door.
'Misha.' He called her.
She stopped in her tracks. She turned back to only to find him standing right behind her.
She looked into his dark eyes, her brown ones lost in them for a moment.
'Thank you. For everything.' He said, softly placing his hand over her bare arm.
She felt a faint chill ran through her body in the warm room. Gulping she gazed into his eyes finding genuine gratitude and care in them.
Giving a smile she walked away.
Just before closing the door behind her she looked back as he stood there slightly hunched beside the fire.
'…I'll be there.' She whispered the words slipping even before she could catch them.
Something pulled at her heart telling her to go back and envelop him in a strong embrace. Shaking her head at the bizarre idea she closed the door walking into the silent night.
