She heard her bhabhi calling and she left from there with fast beating heart. She suddenly became conscious of her movements. Arjun stopped the waiter and took another drink. For him it was out of sight out of mind. He saw Sanchit approaching him with a wide grin. Arjun put his foot slightly sideways and moved forward just when sanchit was close to him. Sanchit did not see and as he walked he tripped over arjun's foot and fell flat on his face. Arjun had to move and he poured the drink down on sanchit's back like it was an accident too. His nose and knees badly hurt sanchit tried to get up. 'oh ouch, what happened' arjun faked concern and lent his hand to pull him up. Sanchit got up and looked down around to see what tripped him he saw drops of drinks around and he blamed it on the two steps that split the living room in two levels and the spilled drink 'damn these' 'you should be careful about where you step in' arjun adviced him. 'oh jeez looks like you knocked off my drink too when u tripped' Sanchit then realized he had to change his suit. Instead he found it easy to take off the jacket and roam around just in his shirt. that's right, it is the start of your fame being stripped off one after another arjun thought venomously. Seeing him fall was the best sight so far.
Simi had called arohi with a special request to make . 'you were supposed to sing in this party' 'me? Now?' arohi loved singing that too while playing piano or keyboard, she would forget everything and would be lost in the music. Her daddu would tear up everytime she sang and played, whether it was a happy song or a sad one. 'yes you, you were supposed to sing, look at your brother he is busy making his business plans and deals, it is my birthday for god's sake, someone should make it look like one' she said in half frustration and half desperation. Arohi felt bad for her bhabhi, she should have known and started without her bhabhi asking, she felt angry at her brother too, who seemed to be oblivious of his wife's feelings even on her special day. She saw arjun and him talking to a group of men. Arjun's sight gave her the blush even when he was not looking at her. Then looking at simi she said 'okay bhabhi for ur special day, your favourite song theek hai' she said pulling simi's cheeks and went to the keyboard. She chose it over the piano today, since the piano was in the nook where arjun and sanchit were talking and she could not make her feet go near him, she was not sure if she can sing when he was so close.
Arohi had to just slide her fingers over the keys to get everyone's attention. 'today on my dear bhabhi's special day, I want to play her favourtite song'. This prompted everyone to clap in approval, it was like they were reminded that they are here indeed for a birthday party. Arjun however did not like the sound of the notes. The sight of arohi sitting near the keyboard sliding her hands over it brought sharp pain to his heart. As arohi started singing and played the music, the memory of his sister playing her keyboard while his mother sang pierced hard. He saw the happy faces of ahluwalia's and his heart burnt somemore, happy music and songs in their house while his house and heart was filled with nothing but silence , that too because of them . As arohi geared up in her pitch, all he could do was whisper to sanchit that he had to leave, since his friend needed him urgently and without giving much chance to sanchit for asking him to stay, he strode off, trying to look as calm as possible.
No sooner had arohi started Daddu had come out of his room, her voice always brought him out of wherever he was, it was too sweet , like a freshly bloomed flower like a gentle breeze , it lifted anyone's mood. Like always he had tears in his eyes. The song she chose was equally sweet 'kyun naye lag rahe hai yeh dharti gagan, maine poocha toh boli yeh pagli pawan, pyaar hua chupke se, yeh kyaa hua chupke se'..' . He felt it was time for arohi also to see the new phase of life like in the song. He had to talk to sudheer about her marriage. He had rejected couple of alliances on the pretext of the boys staying too far. Now he should ask sudheer to find someone suitable , worthy of her, who can take care of her gently and who can keep her close to them. There are many suitable bachelors in Bombay, it must not be so hard. It was time.
When arohi ended the song , everyone applauded her. Arohi who was lost in her own song, turned around to see what was arjun's reaction, blushing like before just by the thought of his name. He was nowhere to be found. She glanced around the room in the hope of finding him somewhere among the people, but to her disappointment he was not there. 'nice song , is it your favourite song too because you sang like you were feeling it' someone said. Maybe she did is that why she was feeling her heart filled with strange emotions like something scary something sweet. Why was she so smitten by a stranger that too who was not even present there. She excused herself and went where her daddu and mother were standing. Her face pink with the rush of blood was a new sight for them. 'mamma, I want to go to my room now, too many people' 'but beta it is dinner time now, we all have to be around' she was forced to stay back. She saw sanchit and wanted to ask him where arjun was, but how to ask. 'sanchit bhaiyya, how is the party' 'oh good good, aru, you are the best' he started to leave 'did everyone come, is everyone having good time' 'hmm luks like that to me' 'I see less people than before did anyone leave' she asked cautiously so it doesn't give away what she exactly wanted to find out 'no nobody left I guess' he almost left from there 'bhaiyya' 'kya hai aru' he was visibly irritated now, he had to talk to Mr. Mehta about the new income tax officer and whether he can be bought by bribes.
When the party was over and everyone left, the family sat down to relax for a while. Arohi no longer could stay down, she wanted to get back into her pjs and lie down dreaming. As soon as she left, daddu told sudheer he wanted to talk to him about arohi's marriage. Sanchit interrupted before sudheer 'daddu, I think I have a guy in my mind for arohi, give me few more days and I will talk to you about it' this sudden responsible talk from sanchit for his sister was a surprise to everyone. But nobody had the energy to argue or probe. So they, for the time being, left it alone.
Arjun was sitting in the dark of his room again trying to wipe off the image of arohi and the keyboard. One thing occurred to him ever since he saw arohi in the restaurant it had brought back his mother and sister's memories more fiercely, especially his mother's. The serene look on the face, the bindi on her forehead, now this singing. It was like destiny was reminding him of how beautiful life was with his mother around and how it was destroyed and that the revenge he is seeking is the only reason why he was even alive. He left a message to jay asking him to bring the inside guy to him so he can find out some more financial details of sanchit.
The following evening Rahul, arjun and jay met in arjun's suite. After a round of formal talks and repetition of what they all already know about ahluwalia's arjun asked rahul what was the main source of funds for the real estate venture and how sanchit managed to make such huge investment despite the profits from his other businesses was not that high. 'he used the rotation money' 'that much money?' 'it is a secret Mr. Singhania, if I give out too much information now, he will easily find out if something goes wrong, but I can tell you this much, his finance company is doing okay and the money he invested was not just the profit from other businesses but the money invested by the customers who are attracted to his high interest rates' 'how does he arrange funds back if the customers wants to withdraw the deposits?' 'till now he has been using the fixed amts deposited for a period of 2 yrs or more' 'what if they want to close it prematurely?' 'then he has to repay, but he can since it will be just a couple of customers mostly and a few lakhs to arrange it is not a big deal to him' 'yet he is in debt?' 'yes he is, he has to fund all his businesses, but he has assets to take care of the loan and he will still be fine' arjun went silent for a while. 'so what is our next move' jay asked him. 'for now I need to gain more of his confidence, may be in 3-4 months he will trust me enough to handle some things, that is when we strike' arjun said. '3-4 months?' rahul repeated 'but wont he get the slightest of the doubt why you are so involved in his matters' 'I will make sure he wont' arjun said withoug revealing to both of them what his other plan was. He has to gulp down the fury that is rising in the form of his mother's memory because of arohi and move ahead with the plan simultaneously, that is when he can get tight hold of ahluwalias neck.
Jay wanted to lighten up arjun as he saw his jaws tighten 'you know I once saw in a movie that the enemy is made to donate all his property to charity by force and is left with nothing, we must make sanchit do it' arjun said like in trance 'then he will remain good in the eyes of public, he should not have any name or fame left when I am done with him. he must loose it and loose it all'. He took details from rahul about who Sanchit's attorney was and what was his weakness.
Arohi was being restless. What happened to her, she was not in a mood to call or talk to anyone, not even shefu. Simi seemed to have noticed it. She came to arohi's room to talk to her casually. She slowly slipped in the question in between 'are you lost in someone's thoughts now a days ?' arohi was caught offgaurd 'me'nnn..ooo, why do you ask' 'because you look like you are' then looking at arohi's face she concluded 'and you are' . 'aisa kuch nahi hai' 'are you sure? Because you better be knowing what you want since your brother has some guy in his mind for you' 'whattt?' arohi was taken aback 'noway, why is bhaiyya doing this? What about me? He should ask me. Who is that guy, why will I like him, daddu wont approve anyway, he wont let me go far from bombay' 'okay first of all, your brother is doing this because he has found someone suitable for you, then about you you will have your say in it so don't worry, and about daddu he himself raised the topic and lastly the guy seems to be in Bombay so that is not an issue' 'bhaabhi , nai , why all this all of a sudden' 'sudden?, aru haven't we been looking for alliances before too ... now tell me do you really have anyone in your mind sorry, in your heart?' 'I don't know' 'matlab?' 'I don't know what I feel, I don't know anything about him' 'oh good , so there is someone who is troubling you' simi teased 'what did he say? Does he like you' 'no' 'no?' 'no , I mean I haven't spoken to him much' 'oh dear lord, what do I do with this girl, theek theek batao baat kya hai' 'I don't know bhabhi, I saw him only twice and I just feel some kind of pull , I cant name it' 'and he doesn't know' 'no' 'what else do you know about him?' 'nothing, he has this mystery in his eyes and I cant think beyond that' 'paagal, it is some kind of attraction you have for someone you saw, you better get things sorted out, because sanchit is going to pursue this matter and you should be clear in your mind to say yes or no' She heard Amrit calling out for her, she gave another teasing glance at arohi and left should be ready to say yes or no? how can she decide, she was not sure what is happening to her, but his eyes were haunting her so much that she was unable to clear her mind to even start thinking, plus the fall in his arms and the way she leaned on to him and the way he had looked at her, the way he had said 'she is different' all that was making her loose herself in dreamland.
Arjun was on his way to meet sanchit, he had gotten the message that the deal is ready to be signed. He was going to invest in sanchit's business, they will also look at the site first. It was just a formality, whatever and however the site was he was going to sign the deal, that is the first step to gain Sanchit's confidence. It took few hours for all to be completed. Jay and an attorney were present at the deal too. It was announced in his office meeting that Arjun will be visiting the premises often, many other formalities took place.
When all was done, Sanchit left out a huge sigh, he felt considerably relaxed, now if something goes wrong he has arjun to either be the scapegoat or to bail him out, either way he is safe. Arjun seemed to understand what was going on in sanchit's mind exactly , he gave a pitiful smile at him. But being the self obsessed person sanchit hardly made out anything from it. 'Arjun , what are you doing tomorrow night?' 'I am free' 'how about dinner at my place?' 'at your place, why is there a party?' 'aahaa haaa' sanchit laughed like it was the best joke ' no just like that, just family' 'oh then I would be honoured to come'. Tonight he wouldn't be able to go , because tonight he had to clebrate alone for successfully trapping sanchit, he had no idea sanchit was bad at reading, he could have atleast gone through all the points he had made in his part of the deal specially the fine and small pring ones, they are the deal breakers. The luxury car he had ordered for Sanchits's attorney was the reason why he was getting the overly curteous looks from him earlier and sanchit was clueless about it.
And he did celebrate, alone in his suite, again sitting in the dark and drinking , but this time listening to his mother's voice , that he had taped looong back. It was soothing. According to him the keyboard in the background was better than any musician would play, that little sister of his was a genius indeed. He was completely relaxed and had a sound sleep compared to past few nights.
Sanchit after getting home , had told simi and amrit that they will have a guest for dinner tomorrow. Arohi was right there doing something, it was not new to her, guests were common in their house. 'It is the same guy I was talking about , that I had in mind for arohi' he said in low voice so arohi wont hear. But she had sharp ears and she heard. This guest was the man her brother was selecting for her, 'my foot if I cater to him' , she whispered to herself stomping off to her room getting angry at the person she had not even seen, whoever it is she will tell him off if he even tries to talk to her, she has to tell her brother now itself, but wait what was she going to tell, saying all that to simi was easy but to sanchit, no she cant, she has to tell the dude off when he comes. She bets he doesnot have those magnetic eyes that had the most powerful pull in them, and he definitely will not have that charming aura around him, like the one in her dreams has. Once arjun's face as she pictures him in her dreams came , she hugged the pillow tight. Slowly she could relate her feelings to that of liking and attraction and something beyond that, for arjun, whom she has met only twice and the Arjun who she had no idea if she will ever meet again.
