Chapter 27

Falling into Place . . . Love revived.

She watched his retreating back, wondering would he stop and turn. Did she want him to? Somewhere deep down, there was a tiny part of her which chided her for not letting him finish, what he had started. Perhaps if she had let him, he would have answered her . . . WHY?

For the past seven months she had thought, she was over him. She had thought she needed no answers. But then if that was so, why did she want to stop him? Why did she want him to force her to listen? He was a mere stranger to her, that's what she had been telling herself for the past seven months. But then if it was so why did she come here, when she could have very well refused given that she knew Annie wouldn't have pushed her? Why did her heart cry seeing him hurt? He was the one with a slashed and burned arm, it should have been him flinching when the nurse dressed his wound then why was it her who winced? Who was she fooling?

Her lips parted as though to call out to him, but all she heard was silence . . . And he was gone.

*****

"I have to the break the promise" Annie rasped, as she came out her hiding place followed by Arjun who now had his hand at her shoulder, trying to comfort yet knowing it was pointless to even try.

"I have seen enough of them suffering." Annie cried, as she looked at Arjun. "I don't know why Dadi ma is doing this? They are her grand children for God's sake. I know she feels that it was bro who screwed up his and Geet's life and it should be him who sets all right. But we know he won't do it. Seven months he did not even make any attempt to talk with Geet and now that he did, she refused to listen. He won't ever try again. His guilt has completely taken over his sense of judgement. We have to do something God damn it!"

"Annie is right" Pinky added.

"Who tells her" Adi sighed.

"All of us go together" Arjun stated.

*****

She closed her eyes as she mumbled "I am okay" It had been over ten minutes since Maan had left, she was still standing at the same spot, as though she were glued to it. God! Why did it hurt so bad . . . why did she fall in love? No! No . . . She would not think about him or the past? It was over! Collecting herself all over again, she walked towards the door. She had only pushed it a little when she heard "His guilt has completely taken over his sense of judgement. We have to do something God damn it."

*****

She stood before her four friends, who seemingly knew more about her life than she herself. "Tell me" she stated.

Just moments ago, they had decided to tell Geet everything and now that she was standing right in front of them asking them to tell her the truth, none of the four knew what to say.

"It was Pammi" It was pinky who spoke. "She framed you."

And so it began the torturous process of knowing the truth. Her soul died a million times thinking what he would have gone through in that one month, when he must have felt thinking that his mother was . . . Geet couldn't even complete the thought. She had known something was bothering him when in that one month their interaction had reduced to just inquiring the basic things. There were times when she had felt he wanted to say something but he didn't.

~Flashback~

"Maan . . ." she said alarmed at his silence. It was three in the morning and five minutes back Maan had called her but he hadn't spoken a word since. His silence was frightening her. "Are you all right . . ." She asked.

"Just wanted to listen to your voice . . . Tell me anything' but just keep talking" she heard his speak.

She had wanted to ask what was wrong but she also knew at that moment it was certainly not the best thing to. He was alone in a hotel and it was only right to divert his mind from whatever was bothering him. Perhaps that is why he had called . . . he needed distraction.

She spoke to him about anything and everything. And after about two hours, she could hear his shallow breathing on the other side of the line. She sighed as she cut the call. She had a nagging feeling he wanted to share something with her but he just kept it to himself. She decided to talk with him when he would be back. It was over a week since he had gone, he should be back in around three days. But those three days turned into three whole weeks. Every night he would call her and yet not talk much, just insisted upon listening to her. When she would question him he would brush it off as work tension. She knew something was amiss but she wanted to talk with him in person. She had even told him she could come there but he strictly commanded her not to. And then when he came back . . . she lost him.

~Present~

How she regretted not pressing him into telling her. Had she defied him and gone there . . . God! Why with them?

"Then when he came to talk with you he heard you say something about you not helping a w***e and supporting your father." Pinky sighed, "Pammi played too smart. She made you say that so tactfully"

Geet closed her eyes as she thought of what it would have been on him to assume that she called his mother a w****. Pammi had asked Geet to help her with the preparation of the charity play which she was supposedly organising. She had given Geet a dialogue draft and asked her to read it aloud to her as she'd wanted to listen to the sound of it. Geet now remembered how Pammi's cell had beeped first right before she had asked Geet to repeat that damned line a little louder. It had certainly been a signal from Dev that Maan was here. And once their job was done, Dev bumped into Maan diverting him from hearing anything else and Pammi took that opportunity to ask Geet to speak in a low tone hitherto and later in a few minutes she very cleverly told Geet she was tired and they would continue the rest next day. If only she had known just how a single sentence could turn her life upside down . . .

Then Pinky went on to tell Geet everything there was to know . . . It was Adi who upon being instructed by Maan had called Meera that night so she could help Geet. She now learned that when she had nearly been robbed in Hall bazaar and a few men had come out of the blue and helped her. They were seemingly her body guards whom Maan had sent for her. Apparently when she had left Delhi, somehow Maan lost track of her and it took him a whole two months to trace her. That was the time she met Pinky and got a job. Adi told her how he had literally sued the security agency, whom he had hired to keep a watch over her, for failing in their job. Their men had been unsuccessful to follow her to Amritsar, because she was seemingly lost in the crowd which swarmed the station. Back in Amritsar, Geet had been looking for a house for herself and she had liked one of those very much as it suited her in every way. Race Avenue was relatively a better place to live as it was less crowed and still developing and it was pretty near to the Air force station and hence safer. She'd always preferred that kind of environment and besides the house was decently spacious and it fell into her budget pretty well. But the owner wasn't ready to rent it to a single mother. And so when Geet had lost all hope at that, unexpectedly the owner called her saying that she changed her mind. Geet had been too ecstatic to think of the reason behind the sudden change of heart. Adi informed her it was him who had talked it out upon Maan's instructions. Maan was never there but still he was always there. And then Adi continued to tell her just what Maan had been doing for the past seven months.

It was then that Annie's cell rang . . .

"Locked himself in his room" Annie exclaimed as she cut the call and instantly Geet's head shot up as her eyes widened in fear. She didn't need telling twice. She simply made a run. Her own words hit at her . . .

Go die for all I care . . .

God! What if he'No! Her heart palpated against her rib as though it would come tearing out any second. Terror which knew no end gripped her soul, shrinking it and she freaked out while she ran, tumbling across the hallway.

Panting she reached her car as she tried opening the door.

"Keys" she cried as she rummaged through her purse.

Her fingers trembled as she pushed the key into the ignition. Her hands shuddered as she put car on gear and her legs shivered as she hit the accelerator. Holding the steering so tight that her veins throbbed, she drove at breakneck speed.

"Stupid idiot moron' what does he think of himself" she muttered to her herself, in frustration. As though he listens to everything she says. He did not listen when she begged him to tell her what mistake she had made. And now when she said a few words in anger he took it as God's verdict. Her own words reverberated in her ears while tears made their way down her cheeks.

Go die for all I care. At least then I will have some peace . . .

She would die if something happened to him. God no! Please no! Her heart bled with the thought that now when they were so close to happiness she may lose him forever. No! Nothing would happen, she won't let anything happen. Rubbing her cheeks with the back of her hand she mumbled incoherently "Why am I crying? He is fine. He will be fine and I won't cry. I won't think negative." Soon fresh tears cascaded down her face. Her snivels and muffled sobs restricted her breathing, while she felt a bile rise up her throat.

She braked outside the mansion and pushing open the car door, she dashed towards the house. She hit the bell repeatedly until the door opened. Disregarding anyone's presence around her she strode inside and towards the stairs. Taking two stairs at a time she climbed up as fast as she could.

She breathed heavily as she stopped at his room door. "Maan" she screamed in panic.

And just the next second the door was pulled open.

There he stood . . .

Their eyes met . . .

She smiled through the tears . . .

And she threw her arms around him.

"I love you" She cried as she wrapped her arms around his neck so tight that her veins throbbed. But all she felt was him . . . so close to her. She pressed herself against him with unyielding force, such that it made her chest congest with pain but she her hold around him only became even forceful with every passing second, for it was not him she was holding onto, but it was her life.

He was shocked . . . surprised . . . elated. His life came back to him as he felt her cling to him with such force which choked him out of his breath but he could care less. She was here . . . hugging him . . . saying that she loved him. And that made him live again. His hands came around to seize her as he slithered them over her back, coming across her waist.

"Geet . . ." he sighed, digging his face into the crook of her neck. His fingers dug into her stomach as she crushed her into his hold. Certain contentment took over their souls as they held onto each other for their dear life.

"Love you so much" she said through the pool of tears. After their racing heart beats slowed, after their hitched breathing became shallower, they broke away from the embrace. She gazed into the eyes of her man, who loved her beyond insanity. When he should have hated her, because whatever it had been like, he was under a grave misunderstanding, and it was only natural for him to detest her yet all he did was love her. Having grown up devoid of a mother's love she knew the worth of a mother. As much as she hated her mother for leaving her and her father, somewhere down the line she missed her. She knew how much he loved his mother. And any child would have probably done the same. She was upset that he did not once talk with her but she did not blame him for that. He had come to her, but he misunderstood her words. He reacted on impulse, but then he had been in an emotional turmoil. And even after that, he came back once again. If only he would have been able to meet her but instead he met Pammi. How schematically were their lives played?

A tear trickled down his jaw. She touched his cheek, wiping the tears. Her heart lurched as she thought of how he must have had to fight with himself day in and day out, trying to hate her. To inflict pain upon her, he must have had to kill a part of himself. To see her cry and beg, still remain cold must have slaughtered his soul. He burned her house, pinky called him insane for doing that. A house with no one to share but darkness is not a home, and he had only gotten her out of that darkness by burning that house. He sent her away, he wanted her to leave, because he couldn't have been able to remain indifferent for too long. But he could also not have her back, not until he was under the misunderstanding created by that sorry excuse of a lady who even succeeded in poisoning her mind that Maan had shunned Meera. And after he knew the truth, still he stayed away from her assuming shit that he was undeserving of her. Seven months he stayed with her like a shadow and she knew none of it. Pinky called it obsession, she called it love. Obsession would be if he tried to have her all to himself . . . Whatever it took him . . . hurting her or forcing her. But instead he choose to just silently be there, letting her live her life without interfering any which way and yet being a quiet part of it. And as she remembered him telling her move on with someone other than him, anger flared up in her. But then the next moment it killed her to think what it would have been on, to say that.

"Itna pyaar koi kaise kar sakta hai" She rasped, cupping his face. "How can you love me so much?"

She rose on her tip toes as she kissed his eyes, lingering her lips there for a moment too long. He felt her lips touch his eye and his heart cried tears of happiness.

"Even after being under the illusion that I . . ." She trailed off as her throat choked. "Ek baar toh pucha hota"

"I hurt you" he cried recoiling away from her. He guessed that now she knew . . . Everything.

"No . . . No" she hissed as she shook her head clasping her arms around him once again. "I need you" she whispered against his nape. When he did not hug her back, she broke away from him as she clutched his collar forcefully. "Dare you withdraw from me Maan' I will kill you with my bare hands if you as much as think of going away from me. Mr Khurana I forbid you from leaving me"

"Geet . . ." he cried, as he pulled her to him. She fit perfectly into his arms, like that was where she belonged. He felt her soft lips touch his jaw, and he pushed her more into him.

"Hold me tighter" she whispered against his skin and he fulfilled her command the very instant. Her feet rose in air, as she felt him squeezed her in his embrace . . . The hold so tight yet so soothing. "I love you Geet" he spoke burrowing his face into her hair. A smile played at her lips as she breathed "I know"

"And I also know your upper wala floor is khali" she added after a pause.

"What" he exclaimed in amusement, as he broke the hug to gaze into her twinkling hazels. It was nothing less than eternal bliss to see that glint of happiness in her eyes.

"You are obviously brain dead, cause only that explains your thoughts which you have been thinking for seven whole months" she said in a matter-of-factly tone.

"Geet I . . ." he began only to be cut by her.

"Get one thing straight into your head, you do not get to decide who deserves me. I know best for me" she said firmly.

"You're an angel Geet. You deserve'

And a hard slap struck his cheek, imprinting her fingertips upon his now red skin. He looked at her blankly and before his brain over worked she spoke "That was precisely what I wanted to do when you uttered that bullshit about moving on"

"And Mr Maan Singh Khurana just so you know, you are best for me. Period." She finished curtly. God! He loved her. How could he have ever mistrusted this woman? His lips twitched and his eyes sparkled as she held his hand and whispered kissing the back of his hand "I will no longer stay without my man" She looked up to meet his eyes and they stood in silence for a few quite moments.

"Would you kiss me already" She smiled. "Yeh bhi I have to say, you are imposs'

He hushed her, pecking her lightly at her lips, lingering there for a moment too long yet too short. Slightly parting his lips he drew in her lower lip in between them and sucked at it ever so softly. His hand lifted to cup her cheek as his thumb grazed the corner of her mouth, while he sucked at her upper lip. His other hand went behind her nape, stroking her skin there. She tugged at his shirt slamming her body onto his. And as he took in her lips into his mouth, both their eyes closed on their own accord. Her hands slid pass his shoulders and across his neck moving right into his hair, caressing his scalp. She parted her lips for him to deepen the kiss, and soon what had started as a soft kiss turned into a demandingly passionate onslaught, with both of their mouths devouring each other. His hands slithered over her back in heated urgency as she grabbed his hair into her tiny fists, forcing his face even closer upon her own.

"Don't ever leave me Geet" he spoke into her mouth.

"I never did" she replied as they mutually broke the kiss. His hands grazing his waist and hers placed at his shoulder, while they stood in stillness, their foreheads lightly pressed against each other.

"Geet . . ." she head Pinky shriek, her voice was shrill with fear. "Meha . . ."

Alarmed, Geet instantly turned to face a frightened Pinky and her breath was caught in her throat. Something was gravely wrong.

"Meha was . . . in . . . she was . . . watching TV in the waiting room . . . Nurse . . . she was watching . . . over her. She left her alone . . . for a moment . . . Meha . . ." she fumbled with words.

"Where's my baby" Geet hissed loudly.

And then Maan's cell phone rang . . .

Colour drained from his face as he listened to the familiar voice over the phone. "Don't you dare touch her" he roared.

*****

"I am coming with you" she demanded.

"No" he stated firmly.

"She is my baby"

"I promise you Geet... I'll bring her back" He said cupping her face. "Trust me"

Yes she trusted him! But it was about her baby. How was she supposed to sit back doing nothing when there was potential danger lurking over her daughter's life?

"It's not about trust. I have to come"

"Please try and under'

"Understand what Maan' Pammi has threatened to kill her. You expect me to stay back home. Hell no"

"Please Geet . . ."

"My baby"

*****

"As soon as she gives the baby to you, we will arrest her" The inspector said, while Maan nodded and then walked over to his car. He looked back at Geet who stood at a far corner, with the girls, evidently upset. She had wanted to go along with him, but he couldn't have obliged. It would not only endanger her own life but even Meha's for Pammi had warned him against bringing anyone along. Had it been his way, even the police wouldn't have been involved. But everyone had insisted upon it. Arjun had even asked the police to bring Dev along, just in case they needed to handle Pammi tactfully.

All he knew was, he would die but let Pammi hurt Meha.

*****

Following the directions given by Pammi, he reached an abandoned cottage, in the wild. The place looked well sheltered amid the dense green forest. The dry leaves crunched beneath his shoes, as he walked through them. The eerie silence induced a ripple of fear inside of him. He wasn't afraid for his life, but it was his baby doll he was scared for.

He stopped walking as he saw two come out of the cottage and no sooner he heard Meha's cry as Pammi came out. His hands balled into a fist as he saw Meha's puffed red eyes. His face hardened as unwavering rage seeded in him. But this wasn't any time he could afford to be temperamental.

"Sign them" Pammi bit out as the man handed Maan a few blank stamp papers.

"I'll sign the moment you leave Meha"

"You are not in the position to keep conditions. Sign it now and I will give Meha to you"

"Sign the papers and take the baby . . . Nice deal right my sister's son" She spat as she stopped a few feet away from Maan.

"But that would be too simple . . ." She smirked.

"And I don't go for simple" she stated darkly.

"You sent my son to jail. You got him beaten up?" Pammi let out as she pulled out a gun which she had been hiding beneath her scarf. "Payback time Maan"

"You dare as much as think of hitting back . . ." she pointed the gun towards Meha, who was in her arms, thereby completing the unsaid threat.

"What are you waiting for?" she exclaimed looking at the two men standing by her side.

And a line of blows were aimed at Maan.

*****

Maan was smeared in his own blood while he endured the ruthless thumps. Every time he was hit, he looked at the innocent face of his baby angel and he got the strength to bear through it without so much as even flinching.

"I was wondering if I should tell you . . ." Pammi spoke, feigning thoughtfulness. "Chalo bata hi deti hun . . . You know your mother's death was not really an accident"

His burned with fury as her words sank in. He dodged a punch as he charged towards her only to stop dead in his tracks when he heard a gunshot.

"Next time it would be Meha and not open air" she warned.

*****

She had forced Arjun to bring her along but he had laid a condition she would stay in the police jeep and not come out. But when after waiting for over an hour, neither the police nor Maan came back. She had had enough. She had walked into the wild, not knowing where she was headed. It was then that she heard a gunshot. Her heart leapt to her mouth as the ear piercing sound reached her. She made a run towards the direction the sound seemed to have come from.

Panting she stopped as she saw Arjun and the officers hiding behind the bushes.

Darting her eyes round the place, she hankered for the sight of the people who were her life.

And then she saw him . . .

*****

"So now you know I killed your mother and my sister Kiran" she said. "I hated her since the day she got married. Huh . . . she gets to be Mrs Khurana, the only daughter-in-law of the Khurana's and what for me. My parents chose Vikram Khurana for her and a mere air force officer a pay dependent man for me."

She chuckled wickedly "It wasn't hard seducing Vikram"

*****

Dev heard his mother spewing out venom and he realised how wrong he had been when he had followed her every command blindly. In the influence of this woman not only was his own sense of right and wrong impaired but also his family was ruined. Kiran ma loved him so much, she cared for him and what did he do to her. He bloody used her name to destroy his own brother. He now detested his own being.

*****

When she saw the deep red liquid drip down his jaw, she wanted to run to him but when her eyes fell over her daughter, she stopped as burning hot tears clouded her vision. She nicked her lip, as she bit back her scream of pain seeing him being hit so brutally. She shuddered as she saw the fury coupled with a deep sorrow in his eyes. What was he supposed to do when the woman was spitting shit about his mother and he had to listen through it?

Then she saw the police hiding doing nothing. What the hell were they here for? To watch Maan being beaten up . . . To watch as that woman pointed a gun at Meha.

*****

"And you already know how and all I framed YOUR innocent Geet. But do you know why Meera divorced Yash and not tell him about what had happened with her? Let me tell you . . . Kya hai na I threatened her to kill Yash. Of course the little chit went ahead and snapped me she would tell him. Call it my luck, that day Yash had a minor accident. She thought it was planned by me although I had no hand in it but she needn't know that. That shut her up. Then she did as I told her' broke the poor fellows heart. But then you know she met Mr Handa and ended up telling him. Poor man, I had to get him killed. And his death actually proved beneficial for me. You took over Handa business. Who doesn't want more wealth? After all I did all this for the empire. Now that Geet was of no use to me I chucked her out. You must be wondering why I not killed Meera . . . Dev told me he wanted to see that chit suffering for rejecting him. So I spared her. But then one fine day she shows up at the mansion and asks for you. My luck you were not at home. She saw me and certainly the little baby got scared and she went away. But I could not risk another such situation which could spoil my dreams. God was on my side, I needed to plan her murder so it looked like an accident and I obviously needed some time to tie up things and her car broke down and I got enough time at that. Then you know everyone thought it was an accident. But that bit** Geet she had to reach there and take Meera to the hospital and this damned Meha was saved. Oh wait! Did I tell you about Yash's accident? That stupid girl had managed to call him while lying all bloodied on the ground and she told him everything. What was she thinking? Khud toh dubi Yash ko bhi saath leke dubi. I was forced to get Yash slaughtered. Bechara Gurgaun se Delhi aa raha tha, but landed up in heaven. I guess that's it. Isse jyada maine kuch nahi kiya . . . Till now" She shook her head as she chuckled darkly.

"Now my murder victim list will increase by two. Starting with this little girl and then you" She aimed the gun at Meha and Maan made a run for it.

The police along with Arjun finally made a move . . . it all happened in a frenzy.

Maan held the gun, while Arjun snatched Meha from Pammi's hold. Pammi struggled to pull the gun out of Maan's grip . . . and then there was blood.

*****

"Maan . . ." a bloodcurdling scream resounded. And then she fainted.

*****

"Maan . . ." she screamed as her eyes snapped open. She looked around frantically as she realised she was in a hospital room. What had happened?

"Meha . . . Maan" she panicked as she got out of the bed. She had only set her foot on the ground when a hand held her by the shoulders. She felt his touch and heart relaxed. She looked into his eyes and she knew everything was now fine. He gently pushed her back onto the bed as he made her sit comfortably. There was a cut by the side of his lips and his head was bandaged but otherwise she could tell he was fine.

"You fainted out of shock" he said adjusting the pillow behind her. "You were asleep for over 16 hours"

"Meha . . ." she shrieked.

"Here she is" Annie said as she walked in holding Meha's hand.

Maan sat by her side as Meha climbed onto the bed and adjusted into Geet's lap. His arms went around Geet while she hugged her darling daughter and placed her head at Maan's shoulder. Then Maan told her how Dev shot Pammi and that was the gunshot she had heard and fainted. Dev had lost his mental balance after he shot at Pammi right into her head and she died on the spot.

"It's finally over" she whispered closing her eyes.

"Yes . . . for good" he replied kissing the top of her head.

"Ouch . . ." Meha pinched Geet's arm demanding her attention. Maan and Geet together kissed their angel's cheeks while she chuckled.

A while later Geet whispered, gazing into Maan's chocolate browns "Kiss me"

"Meha" he stated, bemused at her demand.

"She's sleeping" Geet replied with a smile.

He groaned softly as he crushed her to him and sealed his lips with hers. "Love you forever" they spoke into the kiss. That was the beginning of a new and happy life.

~THE END~

OMG . . . this is like such a great feeling.😆 I mean I completed Fall Out EVENTUALLY 🤣I have been meaning to end it the month i started writing it😆. . . Wow . . . it is done😃 . . . Gosh it was long and at times it was tough and there were times I felt like 'Go-to-hell-screw-writing-I-m-so-done' But then somehow got through it and its finished. Thanks for the support guys. It really meant a lot 🤗 Oh and by the way there is an Epilogue.

Niddz and sana sorry yaar I am really tired to write more so I killed Pammi without the dogs and much drama. 😆 U see, short cut😆
And yeah guys . . . as usual not edited.

This is dedicated to the one person who chided me every time I doubted myself. Every time I said I hate FO, she gave me a cute small earful or even teased me. She bore my constant cribbing and ranting, without any complaints. Di I LOVE you so very much. Had it not been for you, I may have changed the story at a point or worse stop writing all together. So yep my support system, just so that you know you have to comment this time. I know I told you, you don't need to comment but it's the last chapter so you have to comment otherwise I will bug you to no end or I might as well scare the life out of you. You know chuiya will say anything I ask her to, she loves me too much to refuse . . . I hope you got what I am hinting at. 😈

PS: I don't have any idea if there is a forest near Delhi.😆

PPS: I am going on a break from writing for at least a week.
