Young and talented singer Sandeep Acharya, crowned Indian Idol 2 must be in cloud no. 9 at the moment. First it was the glorious feat of walking away with the title of Indian Idol 2 and now the man is grinning ear to ear as his first solo album 'Mere Saath Saara Jahan' is all set to hit the music stores on May 25th. So much and more happening in his life at just 22. Unbelievable! It was just a month ago that this young singer had been declared the winner and with the kind of fan following and craze, he is surely the man of the moment! However it was surprising to notice a cold launch event for the album. The album was launched in the presence of Sandeep's dear judge Farah Khan, his parents and relatives in a non-popular college hall in the Western suburb of Mumbai. Along with Sandeep ten finalists of Indian Idol were present and they performed with great zeal. Sandeep Chowta has composed the music of 'Mere Saath Saara Jahan' and Sameer has penned lyrics. There are eight songs in all, with three tracks composed by Sandeep Chowta, two other by Deepak Pandit and the rest comprises tracks from films. So how has life been to him after winning the musical talent hunt Indian Idol 2? "I have been hearing that, sometimes, the world changes for a human being overnight. It's only now that I realise what this means. The first time I went for a rehearsal for this album, I was nervous. I kept asking myself how I would be able to sing for a big music director like Sandeep Chowta. But he made me feel very comfortable and brought out the best in me. I am truly grateful to him." With Sa Re Ga Ma winner Debojit's debut album 'Debojit' out only a fortnight back, it remains to be seen who emerges as a black horse at the end of the road.

Sandeep Acharya has the classic Indian playback singer's voice and has often been compared to the great Udit Narayan of Indian playback. He found a keen interest and love in Indian music from a tender age and has been training for a career in the same since then. While his friends played and enjoyed themselves, Sandeep was focused on his career and was regular with his Riyaaz. It is this dedication and focus that has brought him to the top ten in the show and that will carry him forward to the final rounds, closer to the coveted position of the Agla Indian Idol!

When asked what would he do on winning the Indian Idol 2 title, he said that he would give back in return the same love & confidence the audience showered on him & also take his family on a world tour.

Rajasthan's idol is India's idol. Bikaner's lad Sandeep Acharya has proved that Bikaner has much more to offer than bhujia, namkeen, papad and rasogollahs and Sandeep's voice has been tasted by millions of music lovers all over the country and abroad and they have found that his voice is as sweet as Bikaneri rasogollahs. Sandeep's emergence as the victor in a music talent hunt with participants from all over the country proves that there is much more in our middle class than what has been seen or discovered. Sandeep is the pride of Rajasthan and he joins all those successful youngsters who after graduating from IITs and IIMs and being offered jobs where salaries run into crores per annum. The victory of Sandeep would encourage a lot of other youngsters, particularly as he is a small town boy from humble background.

He has earned for himself Rs one crore as cash prize, a car and numerous offers for albums. The detractors of Sandeep after he was adjudged as the Indian Idol-2 claimed that Sandeep was backed by a very strong lobby from his home state and that helped him to get enormous amount of SMS votes which eventually helped Sandeep outwit Karunya. When the contest for Indian Idol-1 was held last year, Abhijit Sawant of Mumbai defeated A.Sana, a youngster from Bhilai. It was just the reverse this year, Karunya is from Hyderabad, 190 times bigger in size than Bikaner. What has not been palated by the detractors of Sandeep is he aroused greater interest of his fans than Karunya. The interest created by Sandeep eventually helped him get higher SMS votes. But the same avenue was available for Karunya also as Hyderabad has both Telugu and English media, who could have taken up the cause of supporting Karunya.

But Sandeep did not adopt any unfair practice and in a contest where apart from being a good singer or a good stage performer other aspects of the personality was also taken into consideration and Sandeep emerged with flying colours! "How could I win only with the votes polled in my favour from Rajasthan alone. I got votes from all over the country and the wishes of the people not only from my home state, but from the entire country and I am indebted to them for the success," said Sandeep from Mumbai. The tag of a champion dangles proudly in the neck of the Bikaner lad. Sandeep drove like a real champion on the platform provided to him. Had he taken the normal mode to reach Mumbai from Bikaner, it would have taken years. Today with this success Sandeep can command a price of Rs six to eight lakh per show.

"I have started working three hours on riaz. Bhavdeep Jaipurwale and Rattan Hemraj are training me. I have started recording album under the music direction of Sandeep Chowta. I will work hard to see that music directors ask me to sing as a playback singer for the films. I want to come to Bikaner the soonest and could land there any time," said this science graduate.

Sandeep Acharya is the new Indian Idol. In the grand finale of Indian Idol 2: Agla Kaun on Saturday, the Bikaner boy beat N C Karunya. This year too, the people's choice got the edge over the judges'. Karunya from Hyderabad was favourite of the judges.

And it's been celebration time in Rajasthan, ever since the news of Sandeep Acharya becoming Indian Idol 2 poured in. People came out on the streets burning fire-crackers and splashed colours at each other.

"This is a proud moment for the people of Rajasthan," an ardent fan of Acharya said.Along with several other awards, Acharya also got a music contract worth Rs 1 crore with Sony Entertainment. Though Sony's Indian Idol 2: Agla Kaun is over, for Sandeep Acharya it's only the beginning.
