My guess

Nahar's father has a mistress whose daughter is Pia. The mistress when dying hands over Pia to the father. When Nahar's mom finds out she commits suicide and therefore its decided to send Pia to hostel. Nahar being very close to the mother remembers her everyday. She dies in white saree considering herself widow on her husbands deeds therefore Nahar hates white.
