J is recalling the happy days spent with the family.He is considering A as his childhood friend now.He's not hating/loving her.He respects A.His remembrance of the good old days does not mean that he loves A.
How ever it is quite unnecessary to show it now as the damage is irreparable.No point in crying over the spilled milk,esp when he himself is the cause.
