Kritika refuses Phulwa, Shobha Somanath Ki

Kritika Kamra, who was last seen in Kitani Mohabbat Hai-2, is looking for substantial projects on television, so we were surprised to hear that she refused to play the lead in Colors' Phulwa and Zee's Shobha Somnath Ki. We catch up with Kritika as she explains the reasons behind her decision and much more.

Why did you refuse Phulwa and Shobha Somnath Ki?

Most of the shows that I am being offered are similar to Kitani Mohabbat Hai, where I will have to play a sweet and cute girl. I don't want to repeat that kind of a performance. I agree that Phulwaand Shobha Somnath Ki are different but I really don't like the treatment of these shows. I believe that television does not do justice to period shows. Phulwa was supposed to be based on the life of Phoolan Devi but from what I have seen, I don't think they are showing Phoolan Devi's story. Plus, I don't think I would be comfortable living outside Mumbai for a show as is the case withSSK.

Do actors feel insecure about securing a new project after their show ends?

Yes to a certain extent actors do feel insecure because we try to break the mould but television does not allow us to experiment much. Plus these days, shows end so abruptly and unexpectedly that it is shocking. And the worst part is when you are promised something in the beginning and the show turns out to be totally different. In my case, if I like it I will take it otherwise I will wait for something better to come my way.

Do you plan to continue working for Balaji or are you open to working with other production houses?

I have done three shows for Balaji and the production house is now coming up with different shows like Bade Acche Laggte Hai and Parichay, which I don't think I can fit in. It does not matter whether it is Balaji or someone else, what matters to me is the character and story.

What kind of roles are you looking for? Are you open to reality shows?

There is no particular role that I am looking for but yes it should be nothing like Arohi from Kitani Mohabbat Hai. I want something challenging and it should keep me on my toes. I will accept reality shows as long as the concept is innovative, so nothing like Zara Nachke Dikha, which I have already done and nothing to do with singing either, because I can't sing. I wouldn't do Bigg Boss either.

How are you spending your break from TV?

I have been travelling a lot. I went to Goa, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and am now finally back in Mumbai. I have been pampering myself and binging on my favourite food.

As I said, I have been binging, so I want to lose weight but I don't enjoy exercising, so I will need some magic want to make me slim. Besides that I have yet to learn driving.

she has a valid reason for refusing these shows - iam sure she will get a very good role in which she will shine as usual

I want her in a good role as well.. i hope her and KK come back in a college based show...she can be shown as a brat there and him as a nerd..they havent done that before
