Chapter 24 - Revelations

Maan collapsed into the middle of the road. He had been walking & running all night & into the morning, looking for a way out. When he finally saw some gravel ahead, he ran to it, his injuries received from Brij still aching.

His eyes felt extremely heavy; it was difficult to keep them open. But he had to, so that he could look out for the car which Vicky had sent out for him.

As he strecthed his legs out in front of him, he looked up at the clear blue sky. Not a single cloud was in sight - it was yet another hot, scorching day. He could feel his clothes sticking to him with perspiration & blood.

Yet all of the pain, heat & uncomfortableness he was suffering paled in comparison when he thought of what Geet was going through. When it came to her, nothing else mattered.

It didn't matter if he was black & blue - he was going to rescue his angel, somehow.

Maan was jolted out of his thoughts when he heard the loud beep of a car horn behind him. Turning around, he quickly realised the car was heading down the road straight for him.

He quickly rushed out of the way of the moving vehicle & fell onto the floor once again, rolling a few feet away before he collided with a tree trunk. He heard the faint sound of a car door closing & hurried footsteps & craned to look up.

"Maan sir?" said a surprised Nakul as he looked at the eldest Khurana son before him. Immediately, he outstretched a hand & Maan took it, standing up.

"Sir, what happened to you, you have injuries everywhere."

"Long story," he replied, dusting the dirt off himself.

"We'd better get back to Delhi," Nakul stated, making his way towards the car.

"No."

Nakul turned back, confused.

"We're not going back to Delhi. I need you to take me to someone's house, fast."

"But sir-"

"Just do as I say."

"As you wish. Please, sit."

Maan climbed into the passenger seat, with Nakul in the driver's position. The car peeled away, the speed leaving smoke fumes behind them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"She has a very high temperature," the doctor concluded, removing his temperature strip from an asleep Geet's forehead.
The Handas, apart from Rajji & Tito, were crowded around Geet's bed.
"Has she received any shock or been through any kind of traumatic experience recently?" he asked, scrutinising everyone's expressions.
Tayyi-ji & Uncle looked down uncomfortably; Brij glanced at Darjee apprehensively.
"No," Darjee lied firmly.
"Hmm. Well, this is most worrying indeed."
"We know that, but what do we do about it?" Brij barked, becoming annoyed.
"You need to keep her as cool as you can. Someone needs to keep an eye on her at all times. I'll be back within a few days to check again. I'll leave some medicines which may help."
"Thank you," Darjee said, as the doctor stood up, placed the medicines on the bedside table, shook his hand & took his leave.
Tayyi-ji used her dupatta to fan Geet, whose hair was sticking to her forehead.
Geet winced in her sleep as she felt the uncomfortable fingers brush against her forehead. She didn't like the touch; it was icy & seemed to penetrate through her, leaving her shivering.
She shook her head, making Tayyi-ji pull her fingers away. All eyes turned to Geet as she slowly opened her eyes, quietly groaning in pain as she shifted her arms & legs.
The first thing Geet saw was the expressionless face of Brij, & she frowned as the memories of Brij revealing that Darjee killed her parents came flooding back.
Immediately, she gasped & tried to sit up.
"Geet, what are you doing?" Tayyi-ji asked, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Don't touch me," Geet warned through gritted teeth. Her tired eyes flickered to Darjee. "I know the truth."
"What truth, dear?" Uncle-ji asked.
"The truth. The truth you've all hidden for... for 13 years,"
Geet said quietly. Her throat burned with every word she breathed, but she had to get this out in the open.
"Geet, you're very ill, have some rest," Darjee said quickly. Looking at the emotions playing out across his granddaughter's face, he guessed what was coming next.
"Don't pretend to care about me," Geet said, a tear trickling down her face. "If you did, you wouldn't have murdered my parents."
Darjee looked away; Brij kept his focus on Geet; Uncle-ji buried his head in his hands & Tayyi-ji placed her dupatta over her mouth, looking at Darjee worriedly.
"Who told you?" Darjee asked.
"Your beloved grandson. Brij."
"What?" Tayyi-ji said, standing up as she walked over to her son, standing beside him. "Why would you tell her?"
"She needed to know," he snarled. "She was running around with that lover of hers, she needed to know that she was destined for the same fate her parents received if she continued."
"Why did you ever assume that you had the right to decide my parents fate?"
"Dear, this isn't the right time for you to bring this issue up, please," Uncle-ji pleaded.
"You knew too?" Geet asked. "I thought you were my uncle, I thought you were the only one in this house who cared about me."
"I do," he said, attempting to reassure her.
Geet shook her head. "If you did, you wouldn't keep this from me. You wouldn't allow me to live under the same roof as the man who killed my mother & father."
She looked at Darjee. "As long as everything goes your way, we'll live. Is that your motto? Is that your family honour, your respect, your reputation?" Geet raised an aching, shaky finger at her grandfather. "I'll tell you one thing. I won't go into this marriage. Lock me up in this room for the rest of my life, punish me as much as you want, starve me. I refuse to give in to your orders. For the first time in my life, I'll do what I want to. I owe my parents that much at least."
Geet exhaled, truly exhausted. She laid back down. Uncle-ji reached out to pat her head but she leant away.
"I think we should leave her alone for a while," Tayyi-ji suggested to everyone. A forlorn Darjee's gaze was still fixed on the floor.
"The doctor said we should keep an eye on her," Uncle-ji said.
"I don't want to see your faces," Geet stated. And with that, they left the room, leaving the door wide open.
Geet turned over on her side, wincing with the pain the movement brought. She sniffled as she cried silently, pulling the duvet up.
"Please," she prayed, whispering as she closed her eyes. "Please Babaji, please take care of Maan. I'll take whatever you throw at me, but don't let anything happen to him."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"I hope nothing's happened to Geet," Maan muttered to himself.

"Sorry sir?" Nakul asked as he turned the corner of the car, leading onto the road where the Handas resided.

"Nothing, pull up at the white house," Maan said. He had a feeling, a deep feeling inside that something was wrong. The doubts & restlessness were killing him, & after an hour or so's drive, he finally made it to his destination.

Nakul pulled up outside the house.

"I'll take it from here." Maan managed to climb out of the car, ignoring his injuries as he looked at the house before him.

"I'm here now, Geet," he whispered as he took his steps towards the front door.

Precap: "No one else will be to blame but yourselves."

Yep, a short update once again, my speciality.

If all goes according to plan, this should finish in the next week.

I'll actually be sad to end this, its like my baby.

Anyways, ignore my emotional attachment to my fanfic, focus your energies on liking & commenting instead 😳
