Ur FF is terrific!!! Just caught up with the updates. It could so much have been a serial by itself. There is drama, action, romance and bad guys. I really like the fact that their love story is evolving mostly up to now in Hoshiapur.

Chapter 20 - Shelter

She didn't know how long she had been running. It was dark now, the evening seeping into the night & everything was eerily quiet. But not even the calm could silence Geet's thoughts running through her mind, with one thing repeating like a broke record - Darjee killed her parents.

Maan stopped to a halt in the middle of the jungle, out of breath, making Geet collide with his back as she had been holding his hand. He turned to look at her, her eyes fixed on the ground as she appeared lost in her thoughts.

"Geet," he said softly, & she looked up at him, the tears brimming in her eyes. One look at him was all it took for the tears to crash over her like a tidal wave.

"I'm so sorry," he said as he gently wiped her tears away.

"How could they be so heartless?" she whispered, closing her eyes to try & block out the pain.

The sound of footsteps behind him caused Maan's senses to suddenly be alert. He looked back, listening out. The footsteps appeared to get closer; he was sure he could hear several of them.

Without a warning, Maan took off again, pulling Geet along with him who had been jolted out of her thoughts.

"Maan, what are you doing?" she asked.

"Shhh," he urged, & continued running. It was difficult for Geet to run in her lengha choli, she had to lift the skirt up so she didn't trip over the skirt.

Geet looked back but all she could see was darkness. Her bangles were becoming a dead giveaway, with every step she ran they made a tinkling noise.

Maan realised there was only so far they could run before they got eventually caught. He saw a small hut and ran to the far wall, pressing himself against it. He grabbed hold of Geet's waist and held her tightly to his left, one hand over her mouth.

They were so quiet, that Geet could finally hear what Maan had been running away from; footsteps. Her toes curled as she realised Brij was probably after them.

Once he was certain the footsteps had gone past the hut, he moved to the other side, kicking the door open. They stumbled in; there was hay scattered everywhere, a small candle & a tiny window allowing for the moonlight to shine through.

Geet sat down on the hay, wrapping her arms around her legs & rocking back & forth. She suddenly felt very cold, whether it was down to temperature or fear, she didn't know.

Maan secured the lock on the hut & lit the small candle which lay on the ground. Once it was lit, it illuminated the room with a small glow, but the glow was enough for him to gaze once more at Geet's innocent beauty.

And that's when he realised she was shivering.

"Geet, are you ok?" he asked, standing up & walking over to her. Geet nodded once but her teeth were chattering.

He took off his white shirt & sat beside Geet as he wrapped it around her. Geet held the ends of the shirt tightly, discreetly taking in the musky scent that came with it.

"I can't believe my family would do that to my parents," she said quietly.

"I wouldn't put anything past them."

"Darjee killed his own daughter. What kind of father would to that, just to save his own reputation & family honour? No wonder they all hated me - in their eyes, I was the devil's child."

Maan didn't know what to say. His heart went out to Geet & the immense pain she had suffered, however he couldn't help but feel glad that she was here, beside him, having finally escaped from her family's clutches.

Geet looked up at Maan, surprised by his sudden silence and finally noticed how bad his cuts & bruises were. She frowned at the sheer sight of them & how painful they must be.

"Look at what he did to you," she said. Geet reached for her dupatta to rip a piece out and clean his wounds with, but Maan placed his hand over hers & stopped her.

"It's ok, leave it."

"How can I just leave it, your wounds will get worse."

"They'll heal."

"Let me take care of you."

"No, because I want to take care of you."

A silence lingered between them as their eyes met, the emotions in them speaking volumes. They remained motionless as they lost themselves in the moment.

Geet suddenly yearned for her fingers to collide with Maan's skin, & without realising what she was doing, she brought her hand up which Maan was still holding carefully to his face. Her fingers lingered for a while before she brushed slowly & carefully at his bruise on his left cheek.

Maan closed his eyes at the soothing effect that Geet's mere touch brought to his wound. It was like a breeze of cold air on a hot summer's day, like the fall of heavy rain in a draught.
Like a sun in the middle of his midnight.

He slowly opened his eyes, meeting Geet's enchanting hazel eyes. The same eyes which had haunted him since the first time he had looked into them.

"It's true," he said quietly. Geet stopped caressing his cheek but kept her hand there, enjoying the tingling sensation his touch brought to her skin. "What Brij said, about us being in love."

She felt her heart skip a beat as she waited in anticipation for his next words.

"I've fallen in love with you."

Maan waited eagerly for Geet's response, his heartbeat beating rapidly.

Geet felt overwhelmed with sudden joy, she felt as if someone had brought light into her darkness again. Her eyes lit up as her mouth spread into a small smile. She blushed fiercely, looking down then looking back up at Maan before saying;

"I've fallen in love with you too."

It felt as if time had stood still in their beautiful moment. Maan's gaze travelled to Geet's lips, focusing still on the curve of her mouth as she continued to smile beautifully.

Without even hesitating, he leaned forward slowly, watching Geet's reaction. She froze, her eyes locked with Maan's but her hand still on his cheek, almost as if it belonged there.

He stopped, his own face mere inches away from hers. He closed his eyes, his heartbeat picking up as he realised he had longed for this moment from the first time he had met her.

Slowly & gently, he closed the aching distance between them as his lips met hers.

oh you made my day by giving an update...again beautiful...her emotions were portrayed really well though i feel the enormity of this truth will sink in after some time
