Jesus Christ once advised his followers, not to throw pearls to the swine. Human beings have perverted priorities, and do not see goodness, where it is, and throw it in the garbage can, just because it does not gel with the preconceived ideas of right and wrong.
At the Patwardan house, we saw a lady, noticing the picture of Late Diwakar Baradhwaj, and exclaim saying "This is..." and she recalls her time in the hospital long time ago, as a doctor, attending to a patient named Anjali. She was young then, and they were studying some reports, and this lady, the doctor, was telling her that according to these reports, it becomes clear, that she is infertile, and unable to bear children. Anjali gets upset, and then the doctor tells her that she understands her
feelings, and she should and could see another doctor and find out his opinions. Anjali takes the reports and goes out to her husband, Diwakar, thin and young, with a baby in his arms, and his wife is very upset, and accuses him, of unfaithfulness. He accepts that he was unfaithful, and it was a one time mistake, and as the girl was not married, he took upon himself to care for the baby, as according to him, the mistake was done by adults, and not the child who has come into this world for no fault of hers, and he felt strongly that he had to care for her. He even told his wife, that if she so wished, that he will bring her up in another house, and care for her. As eventually it turned out that they both made up, and Anjali took care of this baby, especially, after her husbnd had passed away.. Anjali sees the baby now grown up, and turned out to be a beautiful, cultured young girl, about to marry.
The doctor, stands by Minoo's side, and reminisces of that day, when she met Anjali. She comes close to Anjali, and introduces herself to her, and when the latter recognizes her, she tells her that she took her advice, and brought up the child. The ceremony starts and the Pandit evokes the blessings of God, and with the chant he intones the slokas of the ceremony. The ritual is conducted by the family, and Abhi is calm and awaits the moment, when he will be joined to Naina for ever. A white cloth is held separating the two sides, and the chant of the Pandit continues, and the doctor is in her own world, and tells Minoo, in bits and pieces, and she wants to know more and more. Minoo tells, that by the side of the father's picture, they should have also put the late mother's picture, and immediately, the doctor realizes that Minoo does not know everything. As the latter tries to prod from the doctor, she finally tells her that Anjali was the wife of Diwakar, and Naina was a child born of a love affair of her husband. Minoo loses her composure, and gets upset, that her code of morality has been violated. She accuses Nana and her mother, for with-holding the truth from her. As the Pandit proceeds with the ceremony, and the final rites approach, Minoo walks towards the couple and announces that this marriage can not take place.
The whole family looks at one another's face. Abhi asks his mother, why she is making a fuss. She then accuses Naina and Anjali. Daksh too, comes forward to defend Naina. Anjali tells her that she presumed she had known everything, and Naina had told her, but the self righteous mother, insults them and uses a language which disparages both of them, and asks Vibha why she had not bothered to know anything about the past of this girl. She considers her to be of a low birth, and without the "culture" in which she was brought up, by her parents. This "sanskar" is more important to her, that all other factors having no value, and she now decides to turn against a girl, whom she had been praising to the skies all this time. All qualities, goodness, charm, beauty and education, is all down the drain, because she was 'illegitimate' As yet, they do not know who else is sheltering in the glass house, as Akruti feels threatened of her own life, and that of her child growing within her. Sonakshi too is blissfully ignorant of her own mother's past, and her father and she, are in the seventh heaven, thinking they have landed a gold mine.
As the verbal attack of Minoo goes unanswered, the house falls silent. Minoo attacks Anjali, and she makes a feeble attempt to explain, but then the tigress within Naina raises its proud and wise head, and walks towards Minoo, and tells her in no uncertain terms, that she, (who may have high opinions of herself) has no right to speak in such terms about her mother. She does not have to worry that her beloved son will fall in the wrong hands (she know more about him than his own mother) , as she, Naina, herself, rejects this marriage, and her son. Naina does not want to humiliate her son, in front of her mother, (in this she is more cultured than Minoo) - the liar whom she has bred all this time, and now his true color comes starkly in front of the clouded eyes of Naina.
With these final words of Naina, the episode ends, and we hope to see more drama tomorrow.
