What irritates me about the Dev and Nandini "love story" , more than Dev's past actually and him not telling her, is that they are too similar to the idea of Maan and Geet (snobby city boy falls for spunky, educated young girl from a conventional Indian background), but doesn't do it 0.001% as well. I was all for giving Dev a love interest because otherwise he was just causing needless tension for our favourite couple but they should have given him some one completely different from and unrelated to Geet, if only for a fresh story line. Now I feel like I am watching a bad imitation of the Maan-Geet falling in love days, with Nandini continuously falling and him catching her and them just looking at each other with tinkly music in the back, which does NOT work for them!
I think the Amritsar track was good, especially after Geet forgave Maan, but it got extended too long. I liked the idea that Maan and Geet's love story had a happy ending so now they were helping others achieve that. I liked Lucky and Preeto because it showed that it's not only smart, thin, perfect-looking people who fall in love and fight for it, and also brought out some interesting differences in opinion between Maan and Geet. I loved the potential for Teji-Pammi (I hope they expand on last night's look and show some conversation after they left the hall!). It was basically the Nandini-Dev-Daman story that dragged it down because it was a poor repetition of things we have already seen done a million times better.
I think the fact that Nandini's life is so similar to Geet's, without any of the characters acknowledging it is what is making it so uncomfortable to watch. I quite like Sameer Sharma and wouldn't have minded letting bygones being bygones, now that everything worked out, if the CVs themselves didn't keep reminding us of the past with Nandini's story. I am not trying to bash the show or anything, just some ideas on why one aspect is bothering me, and whether my reasons make any sense to you other fans. If they want us to get used to the idea of this couple, they have to find a completely fresh angle on this repeated, rather sensitive storyline.
Please comment with your thoughts. I would love to discuss this!
