We had Alisha chenai, Bappi lahiri and Daler mehndi here in Abu Dhabi y'day....

Alisha was ok...Bappi surprised me...he has some knack of performing on stage...and Daler mehndi is in his own league I guess...he had all fat uncle jis and aunty jis dancing to his songs in gay abandon!!

just y'day we were speaking about whether performance is important or is it singing....well this guy has both I guess....he started with a profound sufi song...maaan what powerful singing...he just mesmerised everyone...and he himself had tears in his eyes when he sang with so much devotion...and just when the song ended he suddenly jumped and twirled ( quite surprising given his girth)..and started na na na na re....o Boy what a performer....

Earlier I had been looking forward to Alisha's kajrare but it sounded soooo bad...she was off sur and had a rather besura male singer toa coompany her...what a disappointment....

so all in all I tried hard to figure out what is important performance or singing but i think it is like a chicken and egg thing...u know what I mean😉

giggles, with daler his voice itself has so much energy.... thats y his hows are high voltage shows.
wat i feel is that great song will attract ppl no matter whether the singer is closing his eyes or standing still.
will we start enjoying dalere's songs less if he closed his eyes and sang, foe me no? bcoz his voice is magical, its his voice that makes us dance along with him.
this is my opinion

I disagree pragya...if he sang na na na re with his eyes closed...it wouldnt have the same effect...however when he sang the sufi song with his eyes closed it was magic...so I guess another factor is the type of the song as well...the song demands a certain kind of treatment....

this brings me back to our own very dear Farah who picked on Meenal for Hum dil de chuke...WELL THAT SONG CERTAINLY DEMANDED TO BE PERFORMED WITH EYES CLOSED!!😡

in a way i agree with u, my point is even if we heard him sing in radio na na na re, we wud still dance 2 the song bcoz the voice exudes so much of energy.

Regarding Maestro Farah Khan, as i sai she needs a reality check, she was too harsh on meenal, but meenal has proved her point with her excellent singing in the shows.

i think in a live concert, if the singer is a natural dancer, it is an added bonus especially in case of peppy numbers and it definitely creates a different kind of ambience and increases the enjoyment of the audience.....

in case of Meenal, i think she conncected more with the audience because she sang with her eyes closed.....Farah should have been asked to demonstrate the performance for this song for us to understand what exactly she meant😆😆

Cool giggles. Thanks for the update. Its funny how Alisha was bad when singing kajra re...I think she was lip-syncing during the II2 finale. Its disappointing when you expect a singer to sing well and they aren't upto par...😕

I went to a Daler Mehndi concert a few years ago. Shilpa Shetty performed as well. High-voltage concert. He sang mostly songs from his albums and a few Hindi songs as well, don't really remember which hindi songs. Never seen Bappi Lahiri or Alisha in concert.

About the eyes closed and Farah madam, there are some songs that are meant to be sung with the eyes closed...it helps convery the emotion and pain of the song better. Two performances that come to mind are Nihira's saathi re and Amey's tadap tadap...both sang with their eyes closed (Amey at times, Nihira for practically the entire song) but it didn't mean they connected any less with the audiences.

Farah just makes up things to come across as a good judge or maybe the channel makes her say such stupid things like calling Mere Haathon mein nau nau choodiyan a nursery rhyme. Wish she gets over her obsession of singing with eyes open for every damn song, even emotional or sad ones...

I agree with you giggles - his performances are rocking in his own way...his energy is awesome and so is the magic of his very non-conventional voice quality as a singer...
I have been to his two-three shows and he always starts with a sufi number....now the way he does is also connects with the audience...though he never moves an inch...but the kind of facial expression and feel on his overall body is what needed in these sufi songs or few lines....
and then the rocking dhol on the his right side...man! thats awesome n his troop is untiring on each of the number...beside himself taking the center stage. These are natural performer.....like remo - you just cant keep him stand still or even cant think of them singing in front of microphoe without moving!!
but at the end of the day, songs play a major role in how one wud perform....you cant always dance on any song when its not necessary....but then, there are many other ways to connect to audience..

not rooting for farah - but seems her intention wud be to make them feel the requirements of being a performer.....and farah messed it up with Meenal song HDDCS when it wasnt at all necessary....thats mine view point n I know we differ on that.....

peace
