Ooh, I'm so excited for this part! I can tell it was eagerly awaited, by your comments!
I've just realised how I left this & my other FF on gripping cliffhangers... I'm evil like that 😆
Before I start with Chapter 10, I wanted to answer some questions that people asked - I realised that people always ask me questions about the FF but I never answer 😆 Sorry, guys!
I was going to reply individually first, but to save people asking me the same question over & over, I'd just post them here 😊
(I can't remember all the questions asked, but this one in particular I wanted to mention)
ninand asked about Maan's habit to stay awake all night, & how he still manages to function.
I have to admit, this one stumped me 😆 I didn't really think of that, because you know, he's MSK so anything is possible
But I suppose you could say that he has regular & heavy intakes of caffeine back home in Delhi... and he's superman 😆

Ok, enough of my ramblings now 😳

Chapter 10 - Saviour

Geet's eyes were wide in horror. She tore away from Maan's gaze, who looked completely furious upon hearing the news.

It was breaking her heart inside, yet she didn't even know why.

"Brij is absolutely right," said Darjee. "Geet is 18 now, she's been here for longer than neccessary." He turned to look at Maan. "Which means you're no longer needed here. The boy Geet marries will inherit the land."

Geet had to bite her lip to prevent the tears coming out. Rajji held her hand underneath the table, attempting to comfort her, but it was of no use. Geet couldn't bear it anymore.

She stood up & pushed her chair away from her table, rushing up to her room. Uncle-ji stood up to go after her, but Darjee stopped him.

"There's no need for you to run after that drama queen," he said. "She has to learn to face the facts, and the fact is, she's getting married."

Brij walked up to Maan, standing directly in front of him & raising his eyebrow challengingly.

The anger was already reaching boiling point for Maan, & it took every ounce of patience he had not to smack Brij across the face, to torture this so called human being who was hellbent on ruining Geet's life & snatching away her chance of happiness.

"You can leave the house now," Brij said in a low voice. "I don't expect to see you in Hoshiarpur again."

"You can't tell me where I can go & where I can't." Maan replied coldly, before storming out of the house, slamming the door shut.

His pent up frustration was tempting him to punch the wall, like he punched the boxing bag back at home whenever he thought of the tragic fire 8 years ago.

He had to see Geet. Judging by her reaction, she was unaware of Darjee & Brij's plans & unhappy. He needed to talk to her.

Geet was sat on the floor, leaning against her small bed, her tears in full flow. The cherished photo of her parents was in her lap.

She knew there were people out there in much worse conditions than she was in. She had never been one to feel sorry for herself - life had taught her to be grateful for what she had.

But what did she have, exactly? Most of the family saw her as a curse & unwanted. The only two people who made her feel like she was worth something - Uncle-ji & Rajji - were constantly oppressed by Darjee & Tayyi-ji to show any concern for her. They were both helpless, they couldn't go against Darjee.

And neither could she. The thought of marraige to someone she barely knew made her physically sick. It was the last thing she wanted, especially at the tender age of 18.

Knowing Darjee, he'd choose a strict family for her, so she'd feel as trapped there as she is now. She'd never get to be happy. Her days of happiness were snatched away from her when her parents died.

Geet heard a light tap on her window. She had drawn the curtains, so she couldn't see who it was. She got up, pushed them both back & saw Maan, looking straight back at her, his hands gripped firmly on the windowsill to prevent himself from falling.

"I need to talk to you," he said.

Geet looked back at her door nervously. "No, I can't, someone will come. I ran away from the dinner table - Tayyi-ji will come to check on me for sure. Please go."

"I know you don't want to marry that boy. I can see it, the thought of it is hurting you."

"Please, I don't want you to get into trouble, just leave."

"I made a promise to you, that I'd help you inherit your land. I won't go back on it."

"You'll fall off & hurt yourself."

"Why do you care if I hurt myself?" Maan asked intently.

Geet's frown turned into a surprised expression, & Maan himself was confused at what he had just asked. He didn't know where the question had come from, yet something inside him was telling him that he wanted to know the answer.

She looked away, trying to avoid the question & Maan cleared his throat.

"Geet, remember I said we needed to go to the registry office? We need to meet & discuss it properly. You need to get Darjee's signatures, remember?"

"But-"

"I can't hold onto this windowsill for much longer. Is there anyway you can meet me tonight, at my hotel?"

"I can't be seen outside. A family is coming to see me tomorrow, I-"

"If you don't come to meet me at 12am, I'll pick you up & carry you out myself if I have to. The hotel is just near the market, I'm sure you know where it is."

"Maan, I-"

He didn't give her a chance to protest against his decision. He jumped down from where he was balancing & stalked off towards his jeep. Geet closed the curtains, truly terrified. How was she supposed to sneak out of her house, without getting caught?

It was 11:30 pm. With every second that passed, Geet felt the nerves & fear build up even more.

It had been 3 hours since Brij announced Geet's marraige. 3 hours since she had ran up to her room, & despite what she had thought, no one came to check up on her.

Rajji would surely have come, but Geet knew that Tayyi-ji would have stopped her somehow. Uncle-ji wasn't even allowed to take one foot out of step without Darjee's permission.

She was pacing her room quietly, trying not to wake anyone up. From what she had assumed, Tayyi-ji, Rajji & Tito had come to sleep. The men usually stayed up until the early hours of the morning.

It was now 11:40pm, & Geet decided to attempt what seemed impossible & sneak out of the house. She stuffed some clothes under her duvet, to make it look like it was her, switched her main light off, prayed to Babaji for her safety & attempted to climb out of the window.

Trying to mimick what she had seen Maan do, she hauled one leg over, balancing her left foot against the wall, then her right.

She squeezed her eyes shut as she hoped for the best & jumped down.

Luckily, she had landed with a soft thud against the grass. Thanking Babaji, she made a quick dash for the gate, hiding her face with her dupatta & made it out of the Handa property.

Geet was so nervous about being out alone so late at night. The usual busy streets were empty & deserted, & she felt scared.

She was clutching onto her dupatta and looking around her when she bumped into a tall, skinny man.

"I'm so sorry," she said quickly, before brushing past him & running off. She took a quick look back & found he was watching her leave with a surprised expression on his face. Geet's heartbeat increased with fear as she picked up the pace & half walked, half ran to the market.

Maan had wrapped two pieces of cloth around his wrist as he punched the hotel cushions with anger.

He felt uneasy inside, an unknown fear. The clock read 11:55pm. He felt angry with himself for telling Geet to meet up with him, so late at night.

What if something happened to her? What if she got lost?

Even worse, what if her family caught her?

He was trying to push his concern away as he continued punching. His fists felt sore & tingled with pain, but he didn't appear to care.

Geet's marraige.

The thought was haunting him like an unwanted, dark shadow. His punches became louder.

He couldn't stand the thought of seeing her becoming someone else's.

Geet had managed to locate the hotel beside the market, just like Maan had said. She rushed in, hurriedly asking the receptionist where Maan Singh Khurana's room was. The hotel was more like a hostel - it was small & homely, & only had a few rooms.

She was directed to room 12. She made her way along the corridors, looking at every room number, until she came across 12.

The door was slightly ajar, & Geet peeked in. Her eyes widened as she saw Maan, clad in a black vest, angrily punching something. Not daring to make a sound, she pushed the door open a little bit more to see what he was taking his anger out on.

It was only a pair of cushions, but they were propped up against a wooden plank which he had managed to retrieve. Because the cushions were small, his fists ended up hitting against the plank instead. Maan was aware of this, yet he still didn't stop.

Geet winced in pain as she saw the blood oozing from the cloths he had wrapped around his wrists. Unable to see Maan hurting himself anymore, she stepped in, closing the door behind her.

She ran to his side & grabbed one of his wrists, looking him in the eye.

Maan hadn't even noticed Geet's presence until her soft touch had collided with his painful wrist.

He stopped punching as she led him to the sofa nearby. He sat down, Geet joining him but leaving some space between them.

The room was silent, with the only sound of Maan's heavy breathing from his intense workout as Geet unwrapped the cloth from his fist gently. All pain he felt before seemed to disappear now that Geet had touched the wound.

Geet tore off part of her dupatta, & reached for the water bottle on the table in front of them. She covered part of the torn part of the dupatta with some water & gently dabbed it to his wounds, not daring to look up at him.

Maan's eyes were fixed on Geet, wondering what it was about her that appeared to make everything calmer, clearer, better for him. Her big hazel eyes shone with innocence & hope. He was in awe, amazed at how she suffered so much yet still had the belief inside her that one day, everything would be ok.

He wanted to make everything ok for her.

He was determined that he would be the one to make everything ok for her.

Geet wrapped her dupatta around his left fist & took his right, doing exactly the same thing as she had done before. The tears were fresh in her eyes when she looked at his wounds - it pierced her heart to wonder what it was that made him torture himself like this.

She wanted to talk to him about it, to reassure him, like he was doing for her. Yet she knew he had a temper, & was afraid of bringing something up which would cause him pain.

Because the last thing she wanted to see was Maan in pain.
