My exams are finally over, yippee! 🥳
This means more frequent updates, which is always a good thing seeing as I always get asked to update soon

(The Munshi is the same guy from the Hoshiarpur days, I don't know his name so he shall be called... Munshi. I couldn't be bothered to come up with a name.)

Chapter 8 - Silver Linings

Maan pulled up outside his Munshi's office & made his way straight inside. Not even bothering to knock on the door before entering, he barged straight in

"Maan sir, I wasn't expecting you for another half an hour," he said, standing up & adjusting his glasses. His desk was littered with all kinds of papers, some of them even spewing up all over the floor. "Take a seat," he said, dusting off a wooden chair.

"I'm not here for a tea party," Maan replied coldly.

"I'm aware of that, how could we have a tea party anyway, look at all this mess." Munshi laughed nervously at his attempt of a light hearted joke, but a cold look from Maan shut him up.

"There's been some changes regarding the Handa land."

"Changes?" Munshi asked, clearing his throat. "May I ask what kind of changes?"

"I don't want the land anymore," Maan said.

"But... why? The land is worth thousands, it will be a good investment for your company, I've been working day & night to try & get you the land."

Maan crossed his muscular arms over his chest. "Firstly, I don't need you to tell me what's good for my business & what isn't. Secondly, I can buy as much land as I want from all across the country. And thirdly, it's not of any interest to me anymore."

"I guess we can cancel our appointments."

"No, not exactly. I want you to help me in returning the land to its rightful owner."

"Rightful owner? But my records show that Mohinder Handa died 13 years ago."

"He has a daughter. She should inherit the land."

"There's no mention of a daughter on the records."

"Her family have kept it under wraps, so she doesn't inherit it. She didn't even know herself until a few days ago."

"Maan sir, this is the Handa's we're dealing with. I don't mean to intrude, but they have a well earned reputation. Darjee is respected by everyone in this town. I'm sure he knows what he's doing, & it's for the best."

Fury glinted in Maan's eyes. He put his hands on the desk & leaned forward, intimidating Munshi slightly.

"I've seen this so called Darjee beat an innocent girl up in front of my eyes. Is that how a respected man treats his own granddaughter?"

"Sir, it may not be common for you, as you're from a big wealthy city. But in small towns like Hoshiarpur, the girls need to be kept in line."

Maan scoffed. "And your idea of keeping them in line is beating them senseless? This girl, the granddaughter of the Handa family, she did nothing wrong. And she has bruises all over her. The way they treat her is disgusting & unacceptable. I'm trying to do the right thing here."

"I-I appreciate that, Mr Khurana, but-"

Maan removed a thick wad of cash from his pocket and threw it on the table. "I'll pay you double."

Munshi gulped as he saw the amount of money being offered to him, in exchange for his assistance. He looked up at Maan, who was looking at him curiously, & nodded once in response.

A second passed into a minute, a minute into 10 minutes, 10 minutes into 30 minutes, & 30 minutes into an hour.

The day at college was dragging on for Geet.

She kept yawning due to lack of sleep - the bruises on her arms made it painful for her to turn over in her bed. Usually, Rajji would wake up & soothe her back to sleep, but seeing as Rajji had been moved out on Tayyi-ji's orders, Geet had found the long night lonely.

She couldn't wait until it was time to leave - Rajji's fever had been on her mind all day, & she was eager to get back & see how she was.

Geet was a quiet student at college, & the only friend she had was Rajji. They were in separate classes because of their age difference, but they would meet up for break & lunch time.

Today was feeling like an empty day without her bubbly 15 year old sister by her side.

Still, she had managed to survive through her lessons and once the bell signalled the end of the day, Geet was the first one out of the gates, making her way home.

She walked the usual way & remembered her encounter with Maan earlier on in the day.

She subconsciously looked around, to see if there was a jeep in sight. She then realised what she was doing & shook her head, picking up the pace to get home faster.

Geet got home 20 minutes later, & she rushed through the doors. She ran up the stairs, flung her bag on the bed then crept along the upper corridor to the spare room, where she was hoping she'd find Rajji.

She put one ear to the door, & heard the sound of a cough. It was definitely Rajji. She prayed a silent prayer to Babaji, hoping Tayyi-ji wasn't there, & opened the door slightly to find Rajji alone in the bed.

Rajji's face lit up when she saw Geet & a huge smile emerged from her face.

"Geet di!"

Geet quietly closed the door behind her & crept over to Rajji's side. She knelt down on the floor, stroking her sister's hair.

"Di, don't sit on the floor, get a chair."

"I'm ok, Rajji. How are you?"

"I was ill all day, but I feel much better now that I've seen you. I missed you so much."

"I missed you too. College was so boring without you."

"Maa's been fussing over me all day, bringing me cold strips of cloth & horrible medicine. It's been so boring lying in this bed, trapped like a prisoner."

"It's for your own good. You want to get better soon, don't you?"

Rajji nodded.

"I wish I could keep you company," Geet said, sighing. "But you know that I have the rest of my chores to complete, & Darjee will get angry with me if I don't."

"Ok, di. But promise you'll visit me before you go to sleep. I have something I want to give to you."

"What is it?" Geet asked, curious.

Rajji smiled. "It's a surprise."

"I'll see you later," Geet said, squeezing Rajji's hand. She left her room, giving her a small wave before closing the door.

Two hours later, and Geet was preparing the food for the night's dinner. She had already prepared the ingredients, & was mixing the food in the pan.

Tayyi-ji appeared, flinging her dupatta over her shoulder, & Geet straightened her tired posture up quickly.

She looked down at the pan, scrutinising Geet's cooking, looking for faults. Geet stood aside nervously, fiddling with her dupatta as Tayyi-ji grabbed a spoon and had a sample of the dish.

Even she couldn't deny that Geet was an excellent cook - something she had inherited from her mother.

Annoyed at not having found any apparent fault with Geet's food, she told Geet to go & retrieve some more vegetables from the small shed they were placed in outside.

Geet nodded, & hurriedly left. She closed the main door behind her as she walked around the house to the back area. She saw the shed, hidden away behind a big tree, & started to make her way to it when she felt a hand around her wrist & someone pulled her back.

For a change, I am first..😆

First of all am glad that you are done with your exams, which is obviously a good sign.

I read your previous work last week, apart from Gharwali Baharwali..

But i must say this is your bestest work!

The others are really cute too but this has a bit of seriousness and which is making me love it..

Geet falling into Maan's arms, then Mahi mahi then love realization.. it's not something like this here..

this is very sensitive and a very serious FF and the feel itself making chills run through my spine..

Daarji and Geet's family and everything is so nicely portrayed that everytime they call her, GEET, my heart skips a beat wondering what's in store now..

Maan's concern for Geet was so beautifully written and he answered himself quite well..

In short, i am in love with this FF.

All and all a wonderful update.. will be waiting for more
