"Geet, tu kuch kha kyun nahi rahi beta?" Rano asked her as she continued filling Geet's plate with more food.
"Bas bas..maaa" she whined as she looked at the overflowing plate in front of her thinking how in the world is she ever going to finish all that off.
"Dekh to kitni kamzor ho gayi hai" Rano cupped her cheek in her hand and ran a loving hand over her head. "sara khana aise ka aisa hi pada hai"
"Kha to rahi hoon'aap thodi der baad meri plate bhar dengi to yeh sab khatam kaise hoga?" she complained.
"Meri beti ko tang mat karo" Mohinder spoke as he walked slowly into the living room overlooking the eating area. While everybody just rolled their eyes, Geet stood up and hugged her dad.
"How are you feeling today?" she asked
"Main to bilkul theek hoon" he smiled. "Lekin tu inti udaas kyun lag rahi hai?" he asked her.
At this moment, Rajji decided to pitch in "Didi is missing Jiju" she teased.
"Chup oye Rajji'jaldi jaldi apna naashta kar aur college ko nikal" came a reply from Geet to which Rajji snickered again "Didi, aaj Sunday hai" It was Tito this time. Rajji and Tito high fived each other and rolled with laughter.
Though Geet plastered a smile on her face, worry consumed her very being. What was so important that Maan had to leave on a Sunday? In all her worries, she had completely forgotten what day of the week it was. Maybe he had forgotten it too. She walked over to the landline and dialed his cell phone and waited for him to pick up. One ring'two'three' impatiently she tapped her foot. Her eyes fell on a smiling Rajji who had apparently followed her into the living area, as she made a form of a heart with her fingers over her chest and grinned widely. Geet shot her an angry look and swatted a pillow at her. Her little sister was just trying to tease her, on any other occasion; Geet would have reddened with shyness but not today. When Maan didn't answer his cell, her worry increased.
She absentmindedly walked back into the kitchen where Savitri Devi was having a conversation with Rano.
"Daadima aap ja rahe hain?" she asked.
Savitri Devi who had her back to her, turned around and smiled. "Hum ja rahe hain lekin iska matlab yeh nahi hai ki aap bhi hamare saath chal rahi hai. You can stay here as long as you want"
"Lekin Daadima" Geet intervened. First Maan and now Daadima.
"Tu hi samjha apni daadima ko. Meri to baat nahi maan rahe" Rano walked past her with a tray of tea leaving the two alone.
"Geet, I have a Women's association meeting tomorrow which I cannot miss. Plus your dad is so much better. I think I should leave. But if you want, you can stay here for as long as you want" Daadima cupped her cheek lovingly as Geet nodded.
"To theek hai beta, chaliye hum apni packing kar lete hain" Patting her cheeks affectionately Daadima made her way to her room.

"Will you shut up now and let me think?" He sneered at Sameera as they sat at their regular table at a caf not far away from Khurana offices.
"Don't you dare talk to me like that" she pointed a finger at him angrily. "I already told you I am not going to give you any money. You should have thought of this before you made a deal with Rahul"
Dev rubbed his face with both his hands trying to focus his thoughts. He looked worn out, he hadn't shaved in days and his fight with Naintara in the morning only added to his worries. She had seen Geet and Sameera's confrontation in the hotel and knew something was up. "Nothing is going the way I wanted" he murmured.
"When has it ever? You always have somebody else to blame. I did my part well. In fact more than well. It was a perfect strike. But your calculations were all wrong as usual" Sameera hissed at him. "You don't even know where Maan is right this moment" she mocked at him.
"I need to talk to Naintara." He stood up and opened his wallet to pay.
"Don't bother, you will need this for later" Sameera said as she sipped her coffee.
Shooting an angry glare her way, he made his way in hopes to get his life in control.

Later in the afternoon Daadima was all packed up to leave when Geet got Maan's call. Apparently he didn't want to talk to her but to his Daadima. Pouting a little that he hadn't spared a moment of his busy day, she gave the phone to Daadima.
"Maan..kya baat hai? Aaj daadima ki yaad kaise aa gayi?" she spoke into the phone as she smiled at Geet, However hearing what Maan had to say wiped that smile a second later. Geet's eyes didn't miss the display of raw emotions on Daadima's face and she frowned.
"Hum abhi Delhi ke liye nikal rahe hain" she stated as a fact. Handling the phone back to Geet, she turned around but not before Geet saw the worry in her eyes.
"Maan? Daadima-----" before she could complete whatever she wanted to say, Maan spoke up.
"Geet, Mujhe kisi zaroori kaam se Delhi jana padega. I think I can get the next direct flight from here in the evening." When he didn't hear her over the speaker, he spoke gently "Geet? You there?"
"Ji Maan, Koi baat nahi." She spoke. She knew something was up. She saw it in Daddima's face and could hear it in Maan's voice. She might be angry at Maan for breaking his promise but she knew he would never do it deliberately. Something was up and she planned to be with her family through this.
"Okay then, apna dhyaan rakhna" He spoke gently thanking his stars for she understood him. Lord knew he couldn't afford to get his Mishti mad at him. She was all he needed right this moment.
It was that phone call that changed Geet's decision to not stay back at Hoshiarpur. Where Daadima was surprised at her behavior, her parents were proud of her. They knew they had raised a responsible daughter and she was just trying to fulfill her duties. Bidding a teary farewell to all, Daadima and Geet started their journey back to Delhi, back to their house.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Maan's flight had been delayed by another hour due to technical problems, so when he finally reached home it was already past midnight. The whole house was engulfed in darkness. Too tired to change his clothes, he took off his shirt and threw it at the foot of the bed. He looked at his reflection in the mirror and saw that he looked just as tired as he felt. Running a hand across his already ruffled hair he let out a long and slow breath. He turned on the tap, scooped a handful of water and splashed it on his face trying to take the tiredness away. He knew what he wanted to do about the Dev fiasco, but feared Daadima's feelings. He would punish him. He needed to punish him. He felt alone at this moment. Only if his Geet was here. He sighed and walked back to the bed, not bothering to turn on the lights.
He was waiting for sleep to come, tossing and turning on the bed, and that's when he saw her. She was sitting on the window sill, her eyes closed; her limbs drawn together to her chest with hands resting on them; her head propped against the window. She was fast asleep, in contrast to his sleepless self. He was overwhelmed by a great rush of protectiveness that welled up in him along with enormous love he had for her. How his heart lurched to his throat at the beautiful sight in front of him. Her face though pale glowed in the moonlight.
As quietly as he could, he walked up to her and stood near her, a smile played on his lips, a contentment just to watch the gently rise and fall of her breathing. She was here, in flesh and blood. She had come back to him even though he hadn't asked her. Carefully scooping her up in his arms, he carried her to bed. He didn't want to wake her up but could not let her stay there. She probably dozed off waiting for him. With the slight movement, Geet's eyes flickered and they opened. He saw confusion in them and then a moment later a smile on her lips as she realized where she was.
"Maan?" she spoke groggily.
"Shhh'.go back to sleep Geet" He gently laid her tucking her in. She rolled off to a side, curled into a ball and went right back to sleep. He joined her a moment later, her back pressed firmly to his chest; his fingers laced along with hers. His breath fell on her neck as he nuzzled closer to her trying to get some peace in the arms of his beloved.
A few moments later, Geet spoke "Neend nahi aa rahi?"
"Hmmm" he replied, his eyes closed. He wondered how she knew that for he was sure she was fast asleep herself.
She frowned at his reply. She could feel his heartbeat and his steady breath as they were too close and sense his restlessness.
"Maan, you seem tensed, what's wrong?" she asked throwing a careless glance over her shoulder.
Placing a soft kiss on her shoulder, "Nothing Geet, tum so jaao. I am just tired" his voice came back. He didn't want to spoil the remaining night for her. She needed rest.
She turned to face him and he opened his eyes to stare back at her. "Nahi, first you tell me what's bothering you" putting her arms around his torso, she snuggled closer.
He didn't reply though, took her hand and brought it to his lips. "I thought you would be at your parent's place." He stated. She smiled but didn't say anything. "Thanks for letting me keep my promise of coming back tonight to you" He pressed his lips on her forehead and let them linger there for a while longer than he intended to.
Her hands travelled up to his face and traced his cheek. "Maan, won't you tell me what's bothering you?"
"I will, but not now. We will talk tomorrow." He told her as he kissed her ever so softly and gently. This was his whole world and he will be damned if anybody tried to create havoc in his life. She kissed him back slowly taking her time to give and take the pleasure they both needed. His hands around her waist, his face in her neck taking in her scent, Geet's hand slowly running through his hair, Maan fell into a deep slumber.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Geet woke up to a loud noise outside her room. She ran to see Maan and Daadima in a heated argument. Glass pieces lay on the floor and blood oozed from Maan's hand.
"Woh aapka Bhai hai" Daadima cried as she looked at Maan's bleeding hand and then on the floor covered with glass.
"Exactly Daadima. Main uska Bhai hoon" he spoke and turned only to come face to face with her worried eyes. He could read the worry and fear in her big irises. Frustrated at the turn of events, he cursed himself silently. Not saying anything, he went past her and closed the door with a bang. She cringed at the loud noise, wasting no time she ran behind him.
He stood fuming inside the confined walls of their room. His whole body structure was rigid but it recoiled when Geet took his hand in hers. He looked at her in amazement but couldn't see her face for she was looking at his bleeding hand. She made him sit quietly while she attended to his wound. Sitting on her knees, she cleaned it tenderly; then she bandaged it not once meeting his gaze. They didn't speak and the silence prevailed. Maan kept waiting for her to argue and scold him while she kept waiting for him to pour his heart. Finally done with the task at hand, she moved away when Maan held her wrist.
"Geet'." The lump in this throat made it difficult for him to continue. She didn't turn around, stood like a statue with her back to him, tears clouding her vision. She forced herself not to cry but the treacherous heart wouldn't listen. She was hurt no doubt, but this ache that came from seeing him hurting his own self was far more torturous. When she didn't turn or made any attempt to speak, he moved closer placing his head on her shoulder and snaking his other arm around her waist, "Naraaz ho?" he spoke softly.
To that she just shook her head stubbornly. She wasn't mad, she was hurt. Just when she thought there was nothing that could come between them, he had brought this invisible layer around him from where she could see him but not touch his heart. He made no effort to share his worries. Though she was trying her best, she failed miserably.
He could see her throat moving as she swallowed and the tears that made their way down her smooth cheeks. Kissing her tear stricken cheek, he turned her around. He placed a finger under her chin propping her face up to meet his gaze. She had her eyes closed, her face contorted and she held her breath. Cupping her face in his hands, he softly grazed her lips and murmured an apology. She whimpered against his mouth but took a step back. "No need" she spat. She didn't need his apology, she needed him to trust her enough to involve her in his worries.
"You can do what your heart desires. I am not mad. Yeh kaam to aapka hai. How many times I have told you to keep your anger in check? Do you ever listen? Nahi na?? to karo jo karna hai' mera kya hai?"
"Geet----" he took an involuntary step forward to drag her back in his arms.
"You get ready. Main breakfast lagwaati hoon" Saying she slammed the first-aid kit on the table and left him to sulk alone.
