It is commendable effort from Sony TV to present a show to create awareness of the crime in India.
However - the program defies the basic legal system in a democratic set up. Most of the crimes shown in the various episodes have not even gone to the court or the court has given a verdict BUT the team of Sony TV has given their verdict as to who is the perptrator of the crime. It makes mockery of the legal system.
Declaring some one as the murderer without a court conviction - is infact - against the basic ethics of legal system. In the episode - last i saw last night - entire conviction has been on the basis of a girl who woke from coma and named the people who attempted to kill her. Those people were not even caught by police - leave alone the court case or proper conviction!
It makes me wonder how a TV station can take law in their own hands - why do you need a court then?
In Australia - if such things happen - the producer of the show would perhaps be behind the bars for interefering with legal system. Most of the such crime shows are aired only once the court has given the verdict and sentence.
Can some one expalin - who may have legal background - is this the way judicialry functions in India?
