~ Preface ~
The girl stood behind the crowd hoping to catch a mere sight of the new student but to no avail. She couldn't help but stomp her feet as he disappeared into the Principal's office and the crowd shuffled away. Perfect, she thought, throwing her books in her small locker which was overloaded by mountain of books. She sighed thinking she'd just have to take some home today otherwise it would probably fall off.
The warning bell rang signalling that students had to immediately go to their lessons. The girl turned on her heel and walked past the Principal's office to her computer programming class when a soft breeze stopped her in her tracks. Her feet twitched to turn around and look at the breeze but she decided against it. It was only a few seconds before she would've been marked late...

The girl copied the notes which the professor droned on and on about and she couldn't help but wonder who the new student was. A soft knock on the door startled her from her continuous trail of thoughts. She couldn't bother glancing up and instead went back to wondering.
But she felt someone's scrutinizing gaze on her which caused her to look up. It was the new student dressed in black leather jacket and black jeans. His hair was tousled and jet black adding up to the color of his clothes. His eyes stared back at her with dominance and possessiveness which scared her to no bounds. But the gasps and tutting around her didn't go unnoticed and she found it a good excuse to avert her eyes and glance around her.
The girls were fluttering their eyelashes and some even stuck out their chests which disgusted Navya. The boys shot daggers of glares at the new student but she didn't feel his eyes avert from her. She couldn't help but shrink small in her seat and stop the trembling in her legs.
"Ahem," interrupted the professor and everyone turned to face him although some girls remained transfixed in the depths of his black eyes. "Young fellows, this is Anant who recently moved from Shimla to Mumbai. Err...Anant decides to not share much about his background and I'm sure he'll tell you himself..." he turned to smile at Anant who in return shot him glares. The professor averted his eyes and focused on the girls who were bouncing in their seats.
"Now...who will like to -"
"If you don't mind..." said a soft velvety voice interrupting him. "I would like to pick my own seat."
The professor's eyes widened but he didn't question further. He smiled and gestured with his hand for him to choose.
The girl was shrinking ever so small in her seat and she couldn't help but tremble as he walked behind her and approached the seat next to her. It was silent before everyone focused back to the lesson when she finally felt him talk to her.
"You seem scared?" he chuckled leaning close to her. "Come on, I don't bite..."
She reverted away and moved her chair but he only yanked it back with no effort. She gasped loudly and trembled violently.
"Your name?" he hissed at her. She stared at him as if he had escaped from a mental institute. Maybe he had, no wonder he didn't want to share his background, she thought. He glared at her before yanking her book closed to the front page.
His lips curled up to a mesmerizing smile as he whispered her name. "Navya...prey.." and the word 'prey' didn't go unnoticed by her as he sat back casually.
