It's curtain-time for the perennially popular Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin. The show ends on Thursday, May 4, with a grand finale. Jassi will be replaced by the Adhikari Brothers' horror show Khaufnaak.
Deya Singh, co-director of Jassi is crestfallen but convinced that ending the serial is the right thing to do. "All good things must come to an end, I guess. We were with Banegi Apni Baat for six years. So the breakaway finally was far tougher. Tony and I have been on Jassi for three years. We've seen it grow into quite a formidable force. One thing is for sure, Jassi will be remembered in the history of Indian television as the one soap that spearheaded many spinoffs."
Deya doesn't discount the possibility of Jassi coming back. "Who knows? It may return. I firmly believe soaps should have a seasonal run, as they do in other countries."
The director disagrees that Jassi had begun to drag its feet towards the final lap of its journey. "Every soap has its karma. Jassi has taken three years of my life. And I'm proud of it. I've blisters on my feet to show for it. For now we've put Jassi behind us and are focusing on our new soap Jabb Love Hua."
The Singh duo has another soap scheduled featuring Rajeev Khandelwal. Says Deya, "All in all it's going to be full house for us. Of course we'll miss Jassi. We hope to work with Mona Singh again. But she has to want to come back to TV with something that she believes in. Right now she just wants to take a long break. I think she has earned it. So have we. But we're already shooting our next soap."
