Ganga Kii Dheej is a purity test that every unmarried girl of Kaliganj has to go through before wedding. If they fail the test, they are sent to Narak Ka Dwaar from which they never come back and supposedly have to live all their life in Narak ka Dwaar.

The whole Ganga Kii Dheej test is staged by Mahamayi and Dadabhai. The girls failing the test are exploited by Dadabhai in Narak ka dwar. After he uses them, what happens to them is still a mystery...whether they r killed or sent elsewhere. For the whole Kaliganj, Dadabhai is their god, no body knows the truth.

Pakhi, the female lead was one such girl who was desired by dadabhai and hence was staged to fail the test. She was to marry Shivom. But destiny had in stored 'Agantuk' the male lead, dadabhai's only son, for her. He comes in as her saviour and marries(puts vermilion on her forehead) her just before they could put her in Narak ka dwaar as he is completely against the GKD pratha.
