Tum Kaun Ho?

A Maaneet Fan Fic

Chapter 50
May 1, 2011 8:55 am Chicago, May 1, 2011 7:25 pm Delhi

Geet and Maan had decided to finish their breakfast, and were sitting at the table when Geet heard her phone ring. She wasn't expecting a phone call, so she had no idea who it might be. When she saw the name of the person calling, she realized she should have been prepared.

"Hello."

"Geet!" Naintara's voice was so loud that Geet had to hold the phone away from her ear. "Geet, is JD playing a prank on Harsh, or is what he said the truth?"

Geet smiled, knowing what JD must have said, but she was not going to answer that easily. "I don't know, Di, what did JD tell Harsh?"

"Geet, don't play with me. Just now on Skype, JD told Harsh that you and Maan are going to get married. Geet, did Maan propose to you?"

Geet couldn't help but glance over at Maan and smile before she answered. "Yes, he did."

"OMG! OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG!" Again Geet had to hold the phone away to preserve her hearing. "Dev, it's true! Geet just told me that Maan veerji asked her to marry him!"

Naintara finally realized that she was still on the phone with Geet. "Geet, you have to tell me how he proposed. Where were you, what did he say, did he give you the Khurana family engagement ring? What did Dadi say? I bet she was super excited. Have you set a date? What type of ceremony are you having?"

Maan heard his own phone ring just as Geet was saying, "Naintara, at least let me get a word in, will you?"

"Hello, Dev."

"Bro, Naintara just told me the news. Congratulations! So you finally proposed to Geet. No, wait. It's Geet bhabhi now. Anyway, many congratulations, Bro."

"Thanks, Dev."

"So, how does it feel to be newly engaged, Bro?"

"It feels good, really good." Maan kept his gaze on Geet as he answered Dev. When she glanced at him, he felt his breath catch at how beautiful she looked, even doing the simplest thing of talking on the phone.

"I'm really happy today, Dev. I never thought, I never believed, that happiness could come back into my life. But it did come back. Geet brought my happiness back. She changed everything for me. She changed me, changed me for the better. And now there will be an even greater change. Now we will start a new life together, a perfect life."

"Bro, I'm so happy for you. But, I do have do warn you about one thing. If I didn't, I wouldn't be a good brother. Disabuse yourself of the notion that you will have a perfect life. Life after marriage is wonderful, but hardly perfect. I will give you one piece of advice that will make life near perfect. Just remember, 'The Boss is ALWAYS Right.' You do know who the boss is right, Bro?"

"Dev!"

"I'm just saying. You better make sure you know who the boss is, or you might be spending a lot of nights sleeping on the couch in the future."

May 1, 2011 7:51 pm

"Dev, I just can't believe that Maan veerji is finally getting married, that too with Geet. It's so surprising. I mean, they've only been together since Christmas, and I never would have guessed..."

Naintara saw the expression on her husband's face and immediately asked with wifely authority, "Dev Singh Khurana, did you know about this before today?"

Dev grinned and answered, "Bro called me a couple weeks ago, asking for advice."

"What? You knew Veerji was going to propose and you didn't say anything to me?"

"Jaan, Bro didn't want me to tell anyone, and answer me honestly. If I had told you, do you really think you could have kept it a secret from Geet and Dadi?"

"Why...you...you..." sputtered Naintaira as her patidev teased her shamelessly.

She was just about to start abusing him when a loud, "Mom," echoed through the house. Naintara wasn't inclined to let Dev get away with his remarks, but a louder, "Mom, Menal's slobbering all over the keyboard!" Naintara went off to deal with her children, still not happy with Dev.

As he watched his beautiful wife walk away in a huff, Dev remarked, "Saved by Junior. I knew there was a good reason to have kids."

It took Naintara long enough to deal with the kids and get them ready for bed, that she forgot her irritation with Dev. All she could think about was the good news. She wanted to share it with someone, but who?

"I know, I'll call Maa. She'll be interested, after all, the Khuranas are my sasural, and she knows them. It's not too late to phone her."

Quickly dialing her mother's cellphone, Naintara waited for her to pick up. "Naintara, why are you calling this time of night? Is everything alright? Nothing happened to the children?"

"No, Maa, everything is fine. Actually I called because I have some news to share. Something that you will never suspect."

"Well, tell me then."

"Maa, Maan veerji is getting married! He proposed my friend Geet."

"Geet? Geet who?"

"Maa, you know. The girl who helps look after JD and we talk on Skype all the time."

"Oh, I remember. I can't keep track of all these new technology things. So, when is the ceremony?"

"I don't know, Maa. They only just got engaged. I guess it will be a few months at least, but I really don't know. I can't imagine Veerji willing to wait long."

May 4, 2011 1:22 pm

Geet tried to pay attention to what the priest was doing, but it was incredibly hard, all due to her impossible fiance. They were both sitting together on one couch, the priest on another and Dadi in a chair. The priest was looking at their kundali and working on finding potential wedding dates. Dadi was fully engaged, and Geet tried to be, but Maan had no interest.

Instead, he was playing with her fingers and looking at her with what she could only describe as bedroom eyes. Maan's looks were so distracting and embarrassing, making Geet smile and blush like a young school girl. He kept gesturing to her that they should leave, and she kept denying.

"Savitriji, I have done all the calculations and there are three very auspicious dates. One is Friday, May 6th, another July 7th, and another September 8th."

"Great," said Maan, who apparently was paying attention after all. "We can get married Friday. Less fuss that way."

"Maan, you must be joking! No, September sounds good. That will give us about four months to prepare." Savitri stated her decision with all the authority of the head of the Khurana family.

"Hold on, Dadi, just a minute." Maan apparently didn't consider Dadi's authority to extend to telling him when to get married. "There is no way that I'm waiting that long. It's ridiculous. Geet and I want to get married, and I don't see any need to wait. We'll get married Friday."

"But, Maan, that's impossible. There is no way we can prepare that quickly. Now, stop being stubborn."

"I'm not being stubborn, Dadi, you are!"

Before things got out of hand, Geet stood up, pulling Maan with her. She said that they would go and talk together for a few minutes, then come back and tell their decision. Giving Maan a look that warned him to keep quiet, she quickly pulled him out of the room and down the hall. They made their way to Maan's office, where as soon as the door was closed, Maan went on the defensive.

"Geet, I absolutely will not agree to getting married in September. Dadi must be out of her mind to consider waiting that long."

"Maan, don't be so rude."

"Geet, I won't have you taking Dadi's side on this."

"I'm not taking Dadi's side."

"Good, then you agree to getting married on Friday."

Maan frowned when he saw Geet shaking her head no. "Why not?" he demanded.

"Maan, in case you forgot, the priest did give a third date, July 7th. That would be perfect. Dev and Naintara were planning to come for a visit at that time anyway. This way they wouldn't have to make extra plans."

Before she could finish her persuasions, Maan was the one shaking his head no. "Geet, that's still too far away. I don't think I can wait two weeks, let alone two months."

Maan pulled Geet into his strong arms, wrapping them tightly around her waist and leaning his forehead against hers. In a low, seductive voice, he said, "I can't keep my mind from thinking of you, from thinking of the things I want to do to you." Geet shivered at his tone.

Encouraged, he continued, "I want to kiss you everywhere, from the top of your head, down to your toes, and everyplace in between." He moved his head off to the side and gently bit her left ear.

When Geet gasped, he whispered softly, "I want to hear you say my name in desperation, telling me how much you long for my touch."

Maan felt Geet sag against him, making him even bolder. He untucked the back of her shirt, slipping his hands underneath. He trailed his fingers lightly up her smooth, silky back, even as he pressed featherlight kisses on her neck and jaw. His hands continued to travel up her back until they reached her bra. Deft fingers quickly undid the hooks and continued their assault on her skin.

As soon as Geet felt her bra being undone, she snapped out of the seductive spell that Maan had woven over her. She immediately pushed him back, and reached under her shirt to refasten her bra hooks. Then she put her hands on her hips, and showed Maan the same face that she did JD when she meant business.

"Look, here, Mr. Too Shameless Khurana, don't think that you can seduce me into agreeing to your wishes. We are not getting married on Friday." Maan cursed, and then started asking why.

"Why do you want to wait? What is the point of all this auspicious date crap? I don't believe any of it, and I know that you don't practice Hinduism, so again why? I don't want to wait, Geet. I want to make you mine, as soon as possible. Heck, I'm more than will to hop the next flight to Vegas and marry you today!"

Geet couldn't help but think how cute Maan looked in this frustrated avatar, when she responded, "Maan, I understand your impatience. I don't want to wait either. But you have to remember something. This marriage doesn't just involve us, it involves our families. It's selfish to consider only our wants. I want to have a Hindu marriage because it will please Dadi. She has been waiting for this moment since the day you were born. I want Dadi to be happy on our wedding day, not sad or stressed."

Geet could tell that Maan was really considering her words, so she continued with the rest of her persuasion. "July 7th isn't that far away. It's only a little more than two months, but it's a date that I think both you and Dadi will be able to compromise on. Oh, and another thing. Your behavior just now was out of bounds, Mr. Khurana. I expect you to keep yourself in line until our wedding day, or else you won't like the consequences that I impose."

"What consequences?"

Geet narrowed her eyes an Maan, saying, "I don't think I'll tell you, but trust me, you won't like them."

Maan could tell from the look Geet was giving him, that she was very serious. He had no idea what she had in mind, but he didn't want to take any chances. He agreed to behave himself and that July 7th was a perfect day for their wedding.
