If they are citizens of UK, I think they ought to be supporting England over India. Otherwise, how different are they from Ravidass, or Indians who cheer Pak against India?

So when England won the ashes did you see Indians out on the street celebrating?🤔
Forget the ashes, do you think British Indians would have reacted the same way had England won? I highly doubt it.
I wasn't disappointed that the Ind vs Eng match was a draw and neither would I have been ecstatic if either side won. This cup was for Sachin Tendulkar and I am a much bigger fan of Sachin Tendulkar than the England Cricket Team and I have no shame in saying that.

The problem here is that you're not comparing like with like. How can you compare an Indian citizen supporting Pakistan to a British citizen who has Indian roots supporting India?😕

Once you become a citizen of a new country, you belong to that country, period. Previous allegiances & loyalties ought to be forgotten. Those Indians who support Pakistan have the same sense of loyalty to Pakistan as British Indians have towards India. Yeah, they may never have lived in Pakistan, but similarly, if you are talking 2nd & 3rd generation British Indians, they've never lived in India either.

If they are just immigrants there on work visas, but have no plans to take British citizenship, it's one thing. But if they are citizens, their loyalty should belong to their adapted country. That way, coconuts are at least being consistent w/ their loyalties, as opposed to those who want to vote in British elections, but not support British teams.

Once again, you're not comparing like with like. You have to remember that 3rd generation Indians may not have been born in India but they have been brought up by Indian parents, often with a strong Indian background. Often there will be a cultural influence where you speak your mother tongue at home, you eat Indian food, you watch Indian films and your lifestyle is influenced by such factors which once again is very different to an Indian supporting Pakistan whom they probably have no link to whatsoever and so the 'loyalty' that you talk about is very different.

British Indians pay their taxes just like any ordinary British citizen does and I can assure you 99% of them don't hate the country but you really can't blame them for having a sense of loyalty towards India. It's the way the younger generation are brought up and truthfully we all know that it's not just British Indians who support their parent's country over their own - whether that is Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Somalians or Eastern Europeans! lol

But if you really want to talk loyalty then let's talk about football teams. Do you also have a problem with people supporting Manchester United even if they are not from Manchester? Or people supporting Arsenal even if their local football team is West Ham?

The best part of India winning the WC was seeing even a couple of coconuts come out in support of India just to join in on the hype and celebrations. 😆
