Recap:: What on earth would he be doing here? "Geet tujhe sote jaagte sirf Maan hi dikhaayi dete hain..woh vahan kya kar rahe honge…tu bhi na" she mentally reprimanded herself and continued to walk the corridor when a voice forced her to stop in her tracks.
"Well, if it isn't the great Mrs.Geet Khurana" She heard the female voice and her stomach recoiled in effect.
Geet closed her eyes momentarily and took a quick deep breath. Plastering a fake smile on her face, she turned around to see Sameera standing at the door of a room in all her glory.
"I should applaud you for wrapping Maan around your little finger, Geet" she said raising her immaculately shaped eyebrow. "But it won't be for long. He will see you for what you are and soon"
Geet did not like the tone in which Sameera spoke to her. The few encounters she had with her, she had always kept her cool and she intended to do the same. Though she knew there was something amiss with this lady. Her behavior irked her.
"Really now?" Geet crossed her arms as her lifted her chin. "And how do you propose that?"
Sameera gave her famous smile as she put an invisible strand of hair behind her ear. "You wouldn't believe me even if I told you." She took a step back and spoke with a malicious tone "Maan was just here--- with me, ---- in this room" she turned around to give Geet glimpse of an upturned bed.
"And this is your way of telling me that you threw yourself at him and he rebuffed you?" Geet gave her a cynical smile knowing in her heart that Maan wasn't even here in the first place to begin with. She trusted her love and her Maan to even give any doubt to whatever Sameera was hinting at.
A fuming Sameera raised her hand to strike Geet but Geet neatly caught her wrist, throwing her hand to the side.
"Don't even try" Geet warned her. "And if you ever try something like this ever again, you will be sorry"
Leaving Sameera stunned and rooted on the spot, Geet walked away quickly. Her heart pounded furiously in her chest, adrenaline gushing through her blood. She'd never behaved like that with anyone before and she was scared at how good it felt.
"Then I suggest you ask Maan about it" Geet heard the last words from a far distance as she quickly made her way to the elevator.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Geet heard the roar of Maan's car only minutes after she had stepped foot back into the house and her heart lurched in her chest.
She didn't know if she was ready to face him. Whatever transpired in the hotel room still had her shaking. She had been down right rude and she hadn't been brought up that way. She wondered if Maan would be annoyed with her for her behavior towards his friend. She trusted him all her heart and whatever Sameera was implying couldn't be true. But what if Maan had been there?? That was the thought that had taken root in her treacherous mind and refused to budge.
She had spent the whole day thinking about that, looking at all sides of the situation, chewing on the issue like a dog with a bone and was no near to knowing what she should do. She had called him right after her encounter with Sameera but he only spoke a sentence. "I will talk to you at home" he had said, his voice devoid of any emotion and baritone. She figured he must be in a meeting. Should she tell him about her meeting with Sameera? Of course, she should tell him. That was the right thing to do. He deserved to know the truth, however abhorrent it was. And then there was the case of Naintara.
But then the thought of doing that, facing yet more rage, not to mention the bunch of complications that would follow, made her mind clamp down on the thought. How was she going to tell him about Sameera and then there was an issue with Dev and Naintara. She had promised Naintara, she would find a way. How would she explain her presence in the hotel? The whole thing kept spinning in her mind, making her dizzy and confused.
Quickly changing into a simple dress, she pulled herself up to open the bedroom door, already braced to see him. She revitalized her unsteady heart not to respond but her mouth dropped open in bewilderment. He was already seething with rage. His eyes spitting fire, his lips pressed in a grim line and his eyebrows knitted. Did Sameera say something to him? Had she managed to enrage him? She gulped.
Maan had been thinking about the whole ordeal. His encounter with Sameera left a sour taste in his mouth. He tried to keep his treacherous heart in control. His heart and mind were working in different directions.
But he had lost the battle. The sight in front of him wasn't just an illusion. She was there in flesh and blood, just like she was right this instant. He knew, his one wrong move and he will lose her forever. He didn't want to hurt her by implying anything but then he demanded to know the truth. He needed to know the truth. For his own sanity. The truth only she could tell. But that wasn't what his heart and senses still insisted upon. They roared for him to listen to them. They believed in her against all evidence. He just needed to hear from her.
"Maan?" she called out, her voice merely a whisper.
"Geet, what were you doing today at the hotel Oberoi?" he asked with a straight face though he was livid with fury.
Geet's heart thudded in her chest, her hair on the back of her neck standing in anticipation as what was to come next. She waited for him to throw another accusation at her and braced herself. So Sameera had told him. Was he mad at her because she exchanged not so pleasant conversation with his friend or the fact that she went there without his knowledge?
"Geet? Answer me…" his voice going up a notch.
Trying to get her pounding heart beat steady, she looked at him in the eye."You know?" words came out without her knowledge in a soft whisper but Maan heard her loud and clear.
"Of course, I know. I was there. I saw you. Why didn't you tell me you were going to meet Dev?"
She took a step back in disbelief. He was there. She didn't hear anything beyond the phrase "I was there"
Shock waves of anguish and disappointment expanded from her gut. It threatened to burst her arteries and in turn break her heart. And finally the shock splashed through her whole system rapidly in torrents of scorching agony. Moments passed, draining her body of all her energy, leaving nothing behind but frightening resignation. She had been so sure that whatever Sameera said was a lie. But now hearing it from his lips it paralyzed her.
Maan gripped her shoulders, her dark hair fell over her forehead. His eyes burning urging her to say something. Anything. Her silence was too much to bear, his heart thumped in his ears. His heart believed her, his Geet. But he needed an explanation. Was it too much to ask? She looked at him with tears swimming in her kohl laden eyes. The various emotions spread out inside her with such speed and force that she felt her head would explode. Everything lodged in her throat, suffocating her. She opened her mouth to speak but nothing came.
Why couldn't she answer a simple question? Maan's grip tightened around her arms, his nails digging into her soft skin. He had kept his anger in check for too long and it was ready to spread its fangs, poisoning everything in their relationship. His eyes bore into hers for answers but they were blank. Maan felt the red hot spear embedded in his heart twisting, finally halting its fluttering attempts to keep on beating. Everything went silent and rock solid inside him. Just when he'd thought there was nothing more inside him to be shredded to pieces, he heard her strained voice.
"Maan, you are hurting me" she choked as the physical and emotional pain became too much to bear. Shocked at his own behavior, Maan released her immediately and turned around. With all the promises he made to her, he had managed to hurt her. He had promised her to keep his anger in check but he was loosing it. And he was loosing it rapidly. Running a frustrated hand through his thick dark hair, he let out a heated breath.
"I am sorry" he muttered. His irrational behavior was going to burn both of them and he knew better than that.
"What did you say?" she whispered in a slow, hesitant voice, seeming bewildered. What was he sorry for? Her heart gave a warning which she desperately tried to ignore but couldn't. He turned to face her "I am sorry for hurting you but you need to tell me what you were doing there" His face, the strong face she had always loved—was pale, set hard and firm. His jaw line clenched. His eyes bore into her and stared with an open hurt visible clearly. As if she'd betrayed him.
Moments passed and the torturous silence prevailed. Her mouth refused to open as she collapsed on the chair behind her.
"Just leave me alone" she muttered with a flat tone. Sighing frustrated at the events and not been able to get through to her, Maan turned and taking long strides, he left the room.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
As Maan drove around aimlessly, her tear stricken face flashed before his eyes. Why did he have to be so rude with her? He had managed to break her heart, her freely flowing tears told him so. Did he not trust her enough to give her time to tell him all when she was ready? The entire time they spent together, he had been demanding and she cowered. Each and every waking moment, she gave to this marriage, their love. It was probably his turn now. She knew he was worried about her and loved her. She also knew that he didn't like Dev, so it must have been something huge that she didn't tell him. But what could Dev have to do with Geet? His mind was going in turns when a truck honked and he swerved his car at a precise moment avoiding the inevitable. His head fell forward in a jerk and he was reminded of an incident that happened a long time ago. His mother's untimely demise. Wasn't his life going the same path? Was it fair to Geet when she knew nothing of his own insecurities? Promising him self to set things straight, he turned around towards his home. If nothing else, he would give her time. And trust her to tell him things on her own account.
