Nowadays you can see the celebrities in almost every famous TV show and talent hunt program, (desperately) trying to promote their movies.
Have you ever seen Tarak Mehta's stars appearing in another TV show or reality show to promote their own serial? Never.
1. Dayaben and Jethalal went to Apoorva and Aarti's wedding (Sajan Re Jooth..) but that was to promote Sajan re.. itself.
2. Dayaben went to Kaun Banega Crorepati, but again not for promoting TMKOC, but boosting KBC's TRP.
3. Dayaben and Jethalal went to Indian Idol for promoting Bhoomi Trivedi (again not for promoting their own serial).
It shows that a real player makes his/her own identity (Dayaben,Jethalal and other members of Gokuldham), and they don't need endorsement of some other TV program to promote themselves.
In our country, We see people without a penny worth of character or ability, gaining big position in politics and Bollywood only because of their family connections or money power. TMKOC actors, especially Jethalal and Dayaben are glorious examples that a man can write his own destiny, without having any 'connections'.
I've high regards for Vinay Pathak, John Abraham and other self-made people who've so far appeared in celebrity-special episodes TMKOC and who've made their name with long years of hard work, and I'm not writing anything here to demean them, as their producers would have asked them to goto TMKOC and promote the movies so they were just doing their job.
But who is more magnificent? The celebrities who come to TMKOC to promote their movie or the TMKOC itself for letting them promote their movies.
Tomorrow if Tom Cruiz and Anil Kapoor appear on TMKOC to promote Mission Impossible 4 or Johny Depp for Pirates of Caribbean to lure Indian kids to see their movie in this vacation, I would not be surprised.
When multiplexes are involved in robbing people on broad day light with high ticket prices, TMKOC provides clean-entertainment for the whole family at home at a very reasonable cost.
Dabangg was a good movie, but you can see it on Colors Channel, three times a week now and Kites (Hrithik Roshan) came on TV barely within 2 weeks of its release!! So, I find this whole celebrity-movie endorsement in TV shows, a rather futile exercise in the rapidly changing equations of entertainment industry.
Some years back Smriti Irani (Tulsi of Kyo ki Saas bhi..) had suddenly gained fame and later fizzed away. But even during the peak years of Kyo ki, they never had the kind of attention, fame and respect like TMKOC- team today enjoys amongst the urban middle class.
Later the same Smriti Irani came back in Maniben dot com (8PM SAB TV), copying the theme of TMKOC, same is happening with Papadpol, Mrs. Tendulkar and many other serials (a society of 5 families, cricket matches, kidnapping, festival celebration...) everything inspired and sometimes directly copied from TMKOC.
So, I donot believe in the doomsayers that TMKOC too will fizz away one day like Kyonki.... and similar serials. It has attained the status amongst the urban Indians, similar to what the 'Friends' is for the Americans.
The (real) Tarak Mehta wouldn't have thought in his years that one day his characters will become so popular even the film-stars will have to line up in the show to promote their movies. That man deserves appluad for giving TV stars a big-celebrity status, which would be envied by the Bollywood celebrities for years to come. Hell I think some of the flop movie stars with almost defunct career (__insert any name of your liking) would be secretly wishing to be offered a place in Gokuldham society.
Next in the line is Darshil Safari, coming to promote his movie Zokkomon today or tomorrow.
