Chapter 8: First Kiss
The next morning everyone from the conference was going to the site where the new project was going to be built. But it was more of a picnic for everyone. Geet decided that today she would do something different. On this whole trip she did not wear any Indian clothes so today she thought she should wear a nice traditional suit:
When she went outside the hotel she saw that the bus was full. She went to the event organizer
"Excuse me. Since the bus is full, how will I get there?"
"Your name madam?"
"Geet," she replied, getting a bit tense.
After looking through his clip board several times, he replied, "Okay you were suppose to be in the bus but its full."
She was upset and frustrated now. The day started on a positive note, as her mood was well, but now, "Are you serious? How am I going to get there now?"
She felt a slight tap on she shoulder and she turned around to see Maan standing behind her. He looked her up and down once. This was the first time he was seeing her in Indian wear, and she simply took his breath away. Not being able to hold in his feelings, he said, "You look beautiful."
Geet could not help the heat from rising into her cheeks as she thanked him for the compliment.
Not wanting to make the situation uncomfortable, Maan quickly diverted the subject and asked her, "Would you like to come with me in my car?"
"Are you sure? Your probably busy," she said. Geet was unsure of travelling alone with him. It was not him who she did not trust, it was herself. Being in such close proximity to him would make her heart beats race and her face blush deeply.
"No I am going to the site as well but I was informed that the bus would be full, so I ordered a car to go in."
However, she was still hesitant to go with him. What would her colleagues from her office and his think?
He broke her thoughts by saying, "Come on yaar. If Pinky is going with Adit in a car, then you can come with me."
With no option left and secretly wanting to go with him, rather than her office people, she agreed. He lead the way towards his car and sat inside.
Maan could not take his eyes off her. He said seen many girls in all sorts of Indian outfits, as he did live in India. But something about Geet made his heart beat race and glued his eyes to her. "You look really nice today," he blurted out.
She thanked him again and looked out the window, not wanting to make eye contact with those devious eyes.
Maan continued, "Almost like your married."
The smile dropped off Geet's face and a stone-hard expression appeared. Maan laughed at his so-called joke but soon stopped as he saw the seriousness on Geets face.
"I am sorry. I was just joking, again."
Geet did not want to dwell further in to this matter and make anything obvious, so she assured him that she was fine and asked him to follow the bus immediately.
At first the car ride was very boring. Maan did not know what to say and Geet had her back practically turned towards him. But soon, one joke led to another and they got back into their full fun and masti mood. Time went by so fast that they reached the location site.
Upon entering the site, both split ways to join their own respective colleagues and friends. Maan had to do a deep inspection of the site, while Geet enjoyed herself in the picnic area with everyone else. Every now and then, Geet would look over at Maan. There were about five others there explaining to him but he looked bored.
For the first time in his life Maan was not able to concentrate on his work. Usually during the site inspection he would check everything twice and ask so many questions and make so many comments that his workers would be exhausted by the end. But today was different. Maan kept looking over at Geet, as she looked at him and smiled. She was having a strong affect on him, which increased the desire in him to want her.
However, Maan thought, "She is a really decent girl. I cannot just tell her how much I like her. I have to make her fall in love with me. Wait am I in love with her already?" He was confused and felt that he should talk it out with her. He was waiting for that moment when he could just sit down and let her know how he feels.
Finally, the site inspection was over and he headed straight towards where she was sitting. As he approached her, she was got up to go somewhere.
"Geet where are you going?"
"Oh I was about to go to the lake over there," she replied.
Maan was nervous but attempted to ask, "Oh umm. ..can I come..i mean do you want....if you want.."
Understanding his plight, she asked him, "Maan would you like to come with me."
Maan smirked and went back into his full MSk mode, "Well if your dying for me to come then I will."
Gasping at his sudden arrogance and flirtatiousness, she said, "No its okay. You can stay here." And with that she pushed him slightly and ran off laughing.
Maan stood there mesmerized by her laugh, "Wow, she is so beautiful when she laughs. I just love her. Wait did I just say I love her??" He ignored his thoughts and ran after her.
"Geet! Geet'slow down," he shouted after her, as she kept on running.
Turning around to answer him, she yelled, "you did not slow down the other day!"
"Well if you are going to be like that then I will just have to catch you." He started running really fast. Geet looked back and saw him slowly catching up. However, not being able to look back and coordinate her running, she lost balance and fell to the ground.
By the time she looked up, he was standing there and soon fell to the ground as well. They both burst out into laughter at their childish act.
"Damn you can even run fast in a salwar kameez?"
"Yeah I am talented like that." She jumped back up and stuck her hand out to help him up.
"Thanks," he said as he reached for her hand to get up. But Geet had another plan in mind. As he reached for her hand, she bent down and pushed him back down and then ran behind a tree giggling like a little girl who just won a race.
Getting off the ground, he said to her, "Geet do not even try to hide from me. I am going to find you and see what I will do."
He ran around and finally saw her trying to hide behind a tree. He slowly crept up behind her and then pushed her up against the tree. They were so close again, just like that night in the rain.
His hand slowly found hers and he held it, not once moving his eyes from her.
With her heart beats racing, a mere whisper escapes her mouth, "Maan, what are you doing?"
He replied back in his husky voice, as his heart was racing as well, "I told you, when I find you watch what I will do."
He put his other arm around her waist and pulled her close. They could feel the heat and passion from each others bodies. They wanted each other so badly but were controlling themselves. Geet's hand that was free finds its way around his neck and now they are in the perfect kissing position.
Maan was contemplating on whether he should just do it. Should he kiss her? He wanted to so badly but he did not want to lose her respect. He decided that he will test her out and see if she felt the same way.
He tightened his grip around her waist and brought his lips to her cheek and gave her a gentle kiss.
Geet felt like a lightning bolt just hit her and wanted his lips on hers now.
He came closer to her lips, so close that she could feel his presence there. She shut her eyes, ready for the kiss. But his lips never ended up touching hers. But instead she felt him back off and even his grip around her waist loosened up a bit.
Her eyes shot open and he was a bit further away from her. He had a look of innocence in his eyes and he looked like he felt sorry. "I am sorry Geet. I should not have done that."
He let go her hand and said, "I like you but I am not sure you feel the same. I am sorry."
He continued to remove his arm from around her waist and backed off. But he still kept gazing into her eyes.
She looked hurt, confused, and upset, as if she lost something. He turned around and stood there for a bit but then started to walk away.
Geet watched his figure slowly depart away from her and eventually walk away. She could not let this happen. Her body, her mind, her soul, her heart needed him at this moment. If she let him go now, she would lose him forever. Without thinking about the consequences or the outcome of her actions, she ran behind him and threw her arms around his waist hugging him.
"Please do not leave me. I really do like you. Please do not go," she said in a trance, her voice barely audible.
He turned around to face her and she immediately hugged him again from the front.
Between sobs and clenching him closer to her, she whispered again, "I am sorry, please do not leave me."
He took her face and held it between his hands, as he gazed into her eyes. With that one simple look he got the confirmation he needed. Geet did have feelings for him too. She needed him as much as needed and desired her.
Then he slowly lowered his head and planted the perfect first kiss on her soft and pink lips. Geet now felt calm and complete. Like she was missing something and now she has finally got it.
He felt complete as well and he felt like she is finally his. And only his.
With time stopping for them, they slowly deepen the kiss, showing how they have longed for each other over the past few days. Her eyes were shut and felt safe with him, as she trusted him.
He was making sure that he did not hurt her in any way, thus making sure his kisses were light and soft and full of the love he wanted to give her.
They soon heard voices approaching and broke apart from each other. Geet looked down and fixed her kurti and pulled it down, as it had gone a bit up. Her dupatta had fallen on the ground and Maan picked it up and draped it around her. She looked up at him, smiled and thanked him.
They moved a few more inches away from each other and saw that more office people were coming back from the lake. They informed Maan and Geet that the bus was leaving soon and they should head back with them to the picnic area. They had no choice but to walk back with everyone.
Geet was unsure if she should go on the bus with her friends from work or with Maan, since she came with him. She stood to side, waiting for the bus to be filled.
As Maan was talking to some people, he noticed Geet standing to the side of the bus entrance but not entering the bus. He laughed to himself, "she is probably waiting for me."
He soon walked towards her and as she saw him coming she turned around. "Geet," he called out to her.
Turning back around casually, "Oh hey."
"Come with me in my car. The bus looks full," he said, praying she would not deny his offer.
But Geet had other intentions, as she wanted to get over the kiss that took place moments ago, "okay fine. If you are dying for me to come with you I will." She smiled at him, turning into laughter.
He laughed with her and replied, "I actually am, so lets go."
They walked towards his car and it started to rain, as the sky was getting dark with night approaching.
"Its good it rained after the picnic, otherwise the whole picnic would have been ruined," she said getting into the passenger seat of the car.
He agreed with her and they left shortly after the bus did.
Geet felt a little uncomfortable and Maan could tell. They both had the kiss in mind.
So Maan broke the silence and they started talking about movies and shows they like. He was a big fan of Drashti Dhami, whereas she was a die-hard fan of Gurmeet Choudhary.
After about an hour the car made a weird noise. Maan pulled to the side of the road, to check the car. Geet looked outside and it was a really scary area. All she saw were trees and a single dark road.
"Maan I don't know if you should go out. It is scary outside."
Wanting to lighten the mood, he said, "Do not worry jaan, you are with me."
Geet blushed at him calling her jaan. He smiled at her and stepped out of the car to check it. He was out for about 5 mintues before returning back inside.
"The engine seems to be messed up and that's why the car stopped and now it won't start again."
Geet started to panic, "what are we going to do?"
"I guess wait until someone drives by. Or until the rain stops and we can go look for help."
Geet takes her phone out but informs him that there is no network. He says it's the middle of the jungle, so they would not be able to make any calls.
They sat in silence for a while, Geet looking down at her lap and at times up at the roof of the car praying for Baba Ji to help them. On the other hand, Maan kept looking out of the windows, "Geet look over there. Do you see some light?"
Geet looked through the window in the direction he was pointing and far and beyond all the trees she also saw a light. It was coming from some barn area. "Yeah I see it."
"So do you want to go there? It is getting cold in here."
Geet was freezing but she did not trust herself to go with him. What if she does something stupid?
"I do not know Maan, the path leading to the barn looks really scary. What if someone or something comes out at us?"
"Geet do not be scared. I am with you," he said as he held her hand and gave her an assuring look.
She agreed and he got out of the car and ran over to her side to open the door. She stepped out and the rain was pouring really hard.
"Come on lets go," he said as he held on to her hand and led her through the trees.
She seemed really scared as she was shaking and stumbling, so he slowed down and put his arm around her and brought her closer to him. She felt better, warmer, safer, and more secure with him near by.
When they got to the barn, the door was jammed but Maan, being so strong and muscular, pushed it open after a few attempts.
They walked in and observed the barn. There was hay everywhere and a fire pit in the middle.
"You go sit over there by the fire pit and I'll look around for stuff," he said as he pointed to the fire pit.
She quietly went over there and sat down. Since she was soaked in her suit, she removed her dupatta and placed it to the side to dry. She looked up to see what Maan was doing. He had found some fire wood and was starting up a fire.
He looked up at her and smiled. A sweet assuring smile that let her know that she is safe with him.
Precap:
She opened the door and just saw a big bouquet of red roses infront of her
"Who is it?" she asked, a bit afraid and nervous of who it could be at this time.
As the bouquet lowered, she gasped as she said, "tum?"
