"promises are like babies, easy to make, hard to deliver"

In yesterday's episode the word promise played on my mind. I thought about the importance promises, vows, gaurantees, pledges make to our lives.Thought about how as humans we need promises to assure ourselves and others around to make meaning in our lives. How we use these very promises to manipulate ourselves or others. How we use the same promise to confirm and formalise bonds and relationships. How a promise can make us weep or smile, conform or free us, enlighten us or keep in darkness.
But every promise kept or broken by us or others, triggers off a human reaction for sure.Dutta questions why Nakku broke her vow to him regarding the retrieval of the healing flower. His first reaction was smarting rage. Here Machiavelli's word came to my mind " the promise was a necessity of the past, the word broken is necessity of the present"... Hence I ask myself why does Dutta believe in Nakku's pledge? is it because he trusts her love? or he knows her well based on his knowledge of her. Here the words of Aeschyles, the ancient Greek playwright came to me " it is not the oath that makes us believe the man, but the man the oath". How applicable these words also seem when applied to Kala and Seema whose word can be taken for granted!
Finally, either a promise fulfilled or a promise broken, a respond it does prompt in our lives, thus giving us reason to hope for the better.
