Lonely days

Samir Soni and Neena Gupta are both out of Jassi. Will Jessica Bedi survive without her pals?

Mumbai, June 1: Sulakshana GuptaJASSI'S lost two of her best friends. Samir Soni (Purab) and Neena Gupta (Nandini) are out of the show and she will have to fight her battles alone.

Currently Jessica Bedi (Jassi's transformed avatar) is on trial for Jassi's murder. Ironically, the only two people who can prove her innocence are absent in court—Purab and Nandini.

Soni has requested the producers to ease him out of the screenplay. ''This is the fourth time my character has been brought back and now I've been sidelined again,'' he says.

Originally introduced in a guest appearance, Purab was integrated into the story due to his growing popularity. Since then, all his comebacks have coincided with plummeting TRPs. ''But it's not fair to use a character to boost ratings and then discard him when they've stabilised,'' he sulks.

Restricted by his obligation to the show, Soni says he has been unable to explore other projects. ''I'm considering signing a negative role in a BR Films production,'' he adds. After Purab, that will be quite an image shift. Ideas to strengthen his role, including reviving the love triangle, are in the pipeline, but Soni's not biting. ''This has happened so many times already.''

Producer Deeya Singh is puzzled by his attitude. ''He's aware that of all the characters he's played, Purab is the most popular. A daily show has its ups and downs. I haven't thought of how Jassi would shape up without him,'' she says. Gupta's exit on the other hand is a natural part of the story. ''After the transformation, they couldn't find anything else for me to do. Nandini's work is done,'' says the actor. Soni will continue shooting till the end of June. But Gupta's off the sets already. Will a lonesome Jessica Bedi hold viewers' attention like Jassi did?

Deeya, I admire your patience. We viewers are simply tired of his stunts.
Sameer is not interested in love traingle, he does not want to turn negative. So what does he want?
If he wants graceful exit then just give him one. If he wants to become the main lead, JUST FORGET HIM

Seriously! the main lead is Armaan and not Purab...Why not make Purab Jaisa koi nahin and he can be the lead in that😃....(no offence to any one please!)

But like Vishaka says, the man does not know what he wants...this story is about Armaan and Jassi and should remain so...he knew that from the start...as far as a love triangle is concerned, please get me a barf bag...this love triangle thingy is so well beaten its starting to get annoying (im past the bored stage)

ok give him a make over in switzerland. It can last for five months. Then put on "Juliet' to assassin him. He can recuperate in the hospital for next four months. The next three months of that extended one year he can discover new methods of frowning. Mean while Arman and Jassi can find some thing else to do. Let Deeya adopt Purab baby so that she can live with TRPs.

btw in the serial Saakshi, Samir played head of security organisation n next stage he turned negative n was shown to be a spy of the enemy country all along...that was ridiculous but wonder why Samir Soni never questioned the logic of that serial...in fact he had no problems playing the role of a traitor! my view is that he is just trying to pressurise t&d probably hoping to be the main lead opposite Jassi.

One has to accept the character roles that come by-Purab is not the main protagonist.He had enough of good role as Jassi's mentor. Time to leave as did nandini.

if he is so dissatisfied leave the show why shoot .....if he expects that they should make him the lead thats not going to happen coz then apurva will leave which t&d cannot afford ....and even the other actors will threaten to leave ......so wonder what t&d do

I always thought that the actors do just what the directors have planned for them... never thought that the actors could pressurize the directors into changing the story line so that the characters that they play could be shaped differently... and/or threaten to quit the show because those characters don't have much role.

From the actor's career point, he/she is justified in doing so, but it is something difficult for me, as a viewer, to take. Not all characters can be leads now, can they be?

I do understand Samir's frustration, but changing the story because he is frustrated is a bit difficult to digest.

I dont think Purab's grievance is about being the lead character. He was introduced for a few episodes only and then this track grew and I am sure Sameer realises that this is only a windfall gain for him.
I think what Purab was frustrated about was the way the character was changed to suit T & D. When they wanted him out to suit the channel, they made him run away the day before the engagement.
Now they blame him for Jassi murder.....
Every actor lives his role and lives his character. He too must have his own convictions about the character. The actor lives on in public memory through the character, and if the character is so bent, people may not remember them, which no actor would ever want...
Its his conviction and he is entitled to stand by that.....
