Full stop? Apara Mehta and Smriti Z Iraani |
The play is a comedy about a nuclear family. Iraani plays the role of Sargam, while Mehta played Vasundhara, her mother-in-law. The cast performed at a show in Ulhasnagar, a few days back without Mehta. The buzz is that after Mehta's fallout with Smriti, she had made it clear to the producers that she won't be able to be a part of the show anymore.
Apara: 'I'm busy'
A source said, "It's quite sad that Apara won't be working with Smriti anymore. The two made an amazing onscreen jodi and brought the entire house down. But the show has to go on and we will find another Vasundhara."
When contacted, to ask why she refused to be a part of the show, Apara said, "I had told them in January itself that I won't be able to commit myself to the play anymore." Why did she decide to do so? "I have my own play to attend to, besides that, I am also doing Saat Phere on television, which keeps me busy."
No joke
Sources close to Apara reveal that she decided to back out of the show after having differences with Smriti. "She had made it clear after the Chennai show that she won't be working with them. Maybe, they thought it was a joke, as they should have been ready with replacements." It is learnt that Sudha Chandran and Reema Lagoo were the names considered to step into Apara's shoes.
Different versions
Apart from Apara's version, that she informed the producers in January about her decision not to be a part of the show anymore; there are actors working in the play, who said she backed out at the last minute.
"We thought Aparaji would be a part of the show. However, we were shocked when we found out that she isn't going to be a part of the evening. I had heard her mentioning that she won't be able to be a part of our production, but no one thought she was seriously saying that."
Smriti was unavailable for comment.
