I've already fainted twice

Neha Bamb
Neha Bamb, who plays the starstruck Kripa in Sony's new show Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai, is fast learning the rigours of shooting for a serial. This Balaji daily, which went on air on March 29, sees her making her television debut.

Though she has done a handful of South films, Kripa has now realised that doing television is a different ball game altogether…

How are you coping with the switch to television?
In the South, they begin shooting early in morning and pack up by 6 pm. They go strictly according to schedule. I have been so used to this routine that the long, erratic hours of television shoots have been tiring. I have already fainted twice on the sets. Once, we shot for three days and three nights and at the end of it I collapsed.

What are the shoot schedules like?
As it is a daily, we shoot every single day, often throughout the night. Moreover, the shoots are held at various locales. The biggest problem is Mumbai's traffic. It takes me two hours to get anywhere.

Didn't you expect the long hours?
I knew TV was much harder than films, but I didn't expect it to be so taxing. I knew I would have to shoot daily; now there's nothing else you can do. But then I always wanted to act, so it's not that I am complaining — it's part of the job.

How did this offer come your way?
A friend of mine works with Balaji. He gave them my clippings and I was called for the role. The unit treats me like a kid!

What happens to your film career now?
With Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai, there is no time for films. So, that's on hold for the moment.

Why didn't you try your luck in Bollywood?
I did a bit of modelling and that's how I landed up doing South films. Otherwise, I am a typical Mumbai girl. I live in Ghatkopar and have completed my SYBCom from Podar College. I plan to complete my final year privately. I am 18 but when I'm in jeans and singlet, I could pass off as a school kid.

Your surname Bamb is intriguing?
I knew this question was coming! People ask me what it means — is it bomb and stuff like that. I've become accustomed to this since my school days. But that's my surname and that's it. I come from a Marwadi family
