University was a bore for Abhay without the others around him. He had to keep up the whole pretense for the sake of keeping the truth hidden. He didn't want Misha or Kabir to be suspicious. As for the faculty members they'd have found it odd to see the entire gang were missing. After all the students and staff members knew about the gig they'd attended. It wouldn'nt impress anyone. He'd already made a move on his reactions at the science lab. He had to wait for the compound to be made. Normally the waiting never bothered Abhay. He was as patient as they came but for some reason this whole day was dragging. Abhay found it difficult to focus on the project in hand. His mind kept drifting off to Piya. He sure hoped the time apart would give her room to think without his ugly mug around to give her nightmares. He'd felt himself explode inside when Piya had discovered what he truly was. A monster. it was a face many would run a mile from. He didn't blame Piya one iota. How could he? Abhay had felt if he were the one to discover such a thing would he have been able to accept this? As a vampire it was easy for him to say yes but what if her were a mere mortal? What then? Abhay's worries only just scratched the surface. What about Lux? He was no longer a normal human nor a Sorcerer. Lux had become spmething unique. One of a kind. If scientists were ever to get their mitts on him then Lux would never see the day of light. He'd be poked, prodded, tested for abnormailty. Spliced maybe to see what made him tick. Lux was in for a rough ride with Chand already at his case to investigate the progression or regression if there were any. Yeah Lux was in for the time of his life. What about Lexie and Pari they were in the same boat as him. They needed him to be strong for them. Abhay didn't know if he had it in him. Human emotion was frowned upon for this very reason. They always complicated the most simplest of situations. They compromised a vampire into acting on human inpulse than relying on insticts. Haseena had always banged on about it at home. Sid's problem only piled on his guilt of turning Piya's family into some werewolf who may or maynot be an ally to end this ridiculous feud.
Abhay checked his experiment again. He might as well leave it at room temperature for a few hours then come back to it again at a later stage. See how much more resources he needed to add. Abhay found his mind drifting off to Maya his most deadliest of enemies. The woman was like a leech. Irony set in because that is exactly what their kind were leeches sucking off the blood of humans and any animal with blood to sustain themselves. Maya had been the worst opponent he'd ever faced. She never let up. Once she made a vow she more or less stuck to it. Abhay wished he could kill her? Kill Maya and be done with it. Damn b***h had ruined his perfect little life. Maya didn't know when to quite. She'd grown in power with the years she had on him. Maya didn't care for human life much this feuled her further. Her obsession with him was the bane of his unending life. Sometimes he'd wish he could just end it. Yes it would be a suicide but what did he really have to look forward too. He wasn't going to enter Heaven. It was his nature that prevented this move. While Hell wouldn't have him. So where was he supposed to go? The only thing stopping him from pulling the plug was Piya herself. He couldn't bear it if she had a scratch on her. Abhay couldn't abandon her leaving her to the lions nor could he be with her at this very moment. The only consolation he had was Pari. The peacemaker of the group. Only she'd get through to her. Abhay sure couldn't live Piya's hatred. It ripped him up inside.
Abhay took his lab coat off hanging it on the hook of the door. He paced out of the science area to his next lectures. Business classes were interesting. Their topic was on profit margins and loss's. They were to start up their maiden business venture in groups. Damn the others weren't here. Piya was supposed to be in his group. He wasn't sure what he should do? Abhay had excused the others to Professor Dhayal. He'd told him about the food poisoning. Luckily the professor accepted this excuse. Abhay saw Kabir eyeing him suspiciously. Kabir didn't generally believe anything Abhay said normally. For the time being Kabir and T were in the same team as Abhay. Tracker joined in with Misha. Abhay had already forwarded Lux's name, With Lexie, Pari and even Piya. Misha could act as the go between. Abhay let Kabir take over the brainstorm. It kept Kabir busy while Abhay needn't put much input there. He'd add to it later. After all this was a team work effort. Abhay wasn't used to working in a team which didn't consist of his family members.
Tracker enthusiastically raised her hand with her electric smile-"I know we can use beauty products as a product to sell. I know everything about it."
T-"Oh please despo! Keep your opinions to yourself. I'm the Queen of fashion so obviously it is I who knows everything about this niche market. From hair products, Make-up, beauty creams to perfumes. So if U want a winning formula only i can help U losers with this."
Kabir rolled his eyes at T. Damn girl was always so catty-"The beauty market is mainly aimed at girls T. What's in it for the boys? What do we get out of it really? Nothing. The market is piled with new innovative products designed to do what all products do only with a new name."
Tracker grinned-"Oh come on Kabir we all use the products. Admit it even U use the girlie products. It's not like there's that many products for men out there. From hairsprays to gel. There's no harm in fessing up."
Kabir muttered in annoyance-"Tracker either U have some new idea's or leave your little bambi ideas at the door. Men do not use girlie products Ok?"
Tracker grins-"Angad does. i tested a few samples on him at a department store. "
Kabir murmered-"Angad's in touch with his feminine side. Not us men. So what are we doing for this business venture?"
T with command-"As a matter of fact i was thinking along the lines of manicure aspect in business! Hell add in pedicures too. Its a growing business for women. We spend thousands every day on our nails alone from acrylic nails, to nail polish or a simple hand massage. It all mounts up."
Abhay was already bored by T's idea's. Nails by T what a slogan. Girls wouldn't flock for the products they'd run a mile with T's attitude. She wasn't great for business-"T i'm not sure nails would be ideal for the masses. What about us boys? We wouldn't be into the pampering element."
T smiled-"I know some men who go. Even thees big Bollywood stars go in there for a little preening."
Kabir cracked-"They must be all gay then T. Boys are not into all this feminine type of thing. Now give us a body rub then i'd be game."
T stomped her feet-"Eeww that is so gross. U perve."
Kabir grinned-"On the contrary T you're the biggest perve i've seen."
Misha adds in-"Ditto. Now kid's i'm not into all this beauty regimental type of torture like T and Tracker are so i vote NO. We are going off tangent here people rein it in. Abhay hasn't given us anything yet. Kabir is still doing all the writing aspect. T and Tracker i say we make this fair. If U want good grades leave it to the business savvies. we want loads of money. We shouldn't push ourselves into a corner."
Kabir asks Misha-"What's your plan?"
T insulted Misha-"No point asking the biggest loser here. The girl doesn't know fashion like I do."
Misha thought for a few minutes-"Nobodies asking for your opinion T so zip it. Why don't we do hair gels/sprays with colour. Us youngsters love this funky look. It fun and it doesn't have to be permanent so no bad hair days."
T fumed-"That's your bright idea? That's so childish."
Misha beamed watching T squirm-"Just like U T."
Tracker added-"We can do hair accesories. Us girls like pretty things in our hair."
Kabir-"What about the girls who don't tie their hair back? Most of the girls at Uni leave their hair out so not much money in this venture."
Abhay called out-"Bronzers. A special his and hers tub maybe. Have one in different shades to suit the individual. Market it to both types adding a fun promostion to it. Men don't like make up but all the big stars wear this to add colour. For the darker skinned a skin lightening cream designed to be friendly to all skin types. There are millions of products out there but Men are generally ignored as the consumers are mainly women,. This way we kill two birds with one stone. So a brozer with ligtening effects. It's not like we are really making this product T so no need to be over competetive. We get points on creativity. For thinking outside the box. For appeal and marketing strategies."
Misha was impressed-"Yeah stick with Abhay. It's not too flash. I can see kids going for this stuff. It will impress Prof Dhayal for sure so we are all guaranteed a good mark."
Kabir had second thoughts but when he overheard ideas from other students they were all opting for the safety option. Beauty products like the ones T mentioned. Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea. Who knew how the professor thought. Abhay was quick on his feet already heading out. Misha had stopped him with a shout out. Abhay didn't want to answer any awkward questions. He didn't want to lie to Misha. He wasn't going to tell her the truth either. Misha had a sullen look to her face. This was heavy. How far along were Misha and Lux emotionally anyway? Abhay knew the two liked each other a lot. From the looks of Misha it seemed more serious than he's assumed this maybe.
Abhay with Misha out in the hallway-"What's going on Misha?"
Misha sighed-"Is Lux breaking up with me? I wanna know so give it to me straight."
Abhay saw this coming-"No Misha he is likes U a lot. It's past the like stage for him."
Misha moaned-"Then why hasn't he called me? Let me know if he's Ok? I'm not a clingy girl so i don't want to call him every 5 minutes. I don't want to give him the wrong impression."
Abhay could hear the strain in Misha's voice-"Lux won't think anything of it. He'd love it if U called him up. He just doesn't like being fussed over. He's got Lexie on at him, Pari won't leave his side. As U can imagine the girls can overdo it with the mothering. While Lux is just letting them smother him to avoid hurting their feelings. Lets just say at the Raichands Lux is being served hand and foot."
Misha could relate-"So he isn't mad at me?"
Abhay reassured Misha. This was a first to see Misha so cut up-"Misha he love4s the ground U walk on. I'm being deadly serious. He has his pride. Doesn't want to show his girlfriend his weak side. Not very macho. Trust me I run the same way he does. Just give Lux space to recuperate. He'll come flying to U with open arms."
Misha was a little relaxed now-"So he isn't dying or anything? I've been up most of the night worrying without knowing why."
Abhay couldn't exactly say hey Mish the reason your boyfriend is avoiding your calls is so he doesn't jump your bones or anyone he's close to becauses he's a hybrid.-"Misha trust me when i say Lux isn't at death doors anymore. He's fever has gone down but he still has a dodgy tummy."
Misha picked up on the fever-"Fever but U said food poisoning."
Abhay saved it-"Yeah it came before the poisoning. We have a different system to this town. So if U are really concerned with him i suggest U visit him tomorrow. It should ease off some unnecessary doubt that Lux is hiding away from U. Because he is genuinely ill. Piya will vouch for him."
Misha pried-"So What about Piya? Why is she there at your place?"
Abhay-"Is this an inquisition Misha? Piya has a bout of the same. Only her condition is getting better. Sid stayed over to check up on her. Lexie's taking care of her with Pari."
Misha thought her brother was sweet looking out for Piya-"Sid was there. He really has changed. Abhay did U and Piya have a falling out last night?"
Abhay calmly-"Misha what is this huh? What Piya and I do are not your concern! It's our private problem. We are at a phase where we've been living in and out of each others pockets. All couples have a rough patch. Just leave us out of this ok? Piya needs a friend so be there for her. Help her through the hard times but don't question her. Or me please. It's all i ask Misha."
Misha threatens Abhay-"If U hurt her Abhay i'll kill U myself!"
Abhay-"Join the queue. I have enough people out for my blood. Pari has Piya's back. They maybe my blood Misha but the girls stand together as one. They love Piya so no harm will come to her. Again i ask U to visit to help sell my case that i am not imprisoning Piya against her will. U can see for yourself then if she's in one piece. Happy?"
Misha nodded-"Yeah! When U get home i want U to send a message to Lux. Tell him I'm not impressed by his hard to get attitude. It's not funny anymore. Tell him either he gets in touch soon or i give him the boot. "
Abhay-"I'll pass the message on. Can i leave now Misha? I got to check up on my product at the labs."
Misha bid Abhay farewell. Good to know Lux was still keen on her. One guy had shaken her whole world. How did this happen? Misha's mind was with Piya. The girl she thought of as her own sister. If anyone troubled her they'd have a fight on their hand. Abhay was Piya's life. Both belonged together so what exactly happened last night to change the dynamic so abruptly? Abhay was very touchy about Piya. Had she hit a raw spot? Abhay seemed troubled. Normally he was fast on the ball. Today he was half the man he was yesterday. A shadow just walking along but there's nobody home. This made Misha even more curious. She really wanted to go check up on Lux. Hell why not check up on Piya while she was at it.
Abhay put on his white lab coat on. He wore his safety goggle. Abhay saw his experiment was still the same. This wasn't going to be one of those days where even his fool proof tried and tested methods fail on him. This never happened to him. Loks like he was going to have to come back to it another day. Let the compound build up. Maybe it was too cool here. Dehradun wasn't exactly hot and happening. Abhay left evrything shifting out of the University grounds. The lecturers all bout the excuse. Nobody was suspicious. Kabir was stood outside the front of the University gates waiting for Abhay. He too was concerned about Lux. His mate had never before ignored any of his calls. Something was up. Hell Lexie was ignoring his calls so something was definitely up. He could feel it. Kabir still cared for Piya but only as a friend now. Even Piya was rejecting his calls. Its a coincidence all three were ignoring his calls that too in the same house. No he wasn't buying it. Misha had filled him up on Lux. He'd never seen Misha so anxious in all the time he'd known her. It upset him to think Misha was still hurting over Lux's ignorance. These Raichand men were too much. It was common curtesy to let your date know if something was up? He didn't want Lexie to be upset about anything. It didn't sit well with Kabir to learn Sid stayed the night at the Raichand's. After all Sid was after his woman. He didn't like Sid full stop. There was something off with him. He could feel it in his bones.
Kabir to Abhay-"What's going up with U dude? Why are U in such a rush?"
Abhay just scowled at Kabir angrily. He wasn't in the mood-"I gotta dash man. I have some sick people to tend to."
Kabir pressed on further-"Yeah about that i find it strange how Lux, Piya, Lexie even Pari are all off with the same bug. We all ate the same food. Pretty much drank the same stuff so how is it Misha, Angad, Tracker, Panchi and I are all fine. Even U have nothing wrong so why are the others off? Is there something U aren't telling us. I'm not Misha who'll fall for the lame excuses of Lexie and Pari taking care of Lux and Piya. Misha also told me about Piya and your little lovers tiff. U haven't hurt her have U Abhay? Making the others watch your back. If i hear or see a scratch on Piya then i will come after U. I promise U this."
Abhay saw Kabir's nose flare up with anger-"Kabir stop wasting my time and let me go. This isn't about Piya is it? U just want to know why Lexie's been giving U the runaraound right? Why Sid stayed over. I'm sure Misha passed this on to U too. Lexie's not interested in Sid but if this is the way U behave then i wouldn't blame her if she left U Kabir. what goes on between my family and I are our business so back off. Piya is free to do what she wants. Am i clear?"
Kabir glared at Abhay-"This doesn't explain anything Abhay!"
Abhay tugged away from Kabir-"I don't find it necessary to give U any explannations Kabir. You'll get to see the others soon so ask them yourself. Bye."
Kabir was left standing faced with the same old questions in his mind. The Raichand's were very mysterious people but this just took the biscuit. Abhay was being defensive. Kabir had learnt to read Abhay well over the months. Its not like the dude had many facial expressions. They mainly consisted ofa bare smile or just stiffness. Abhay was partially right about this being all about Lexie. The woman had made him crazy with love. He knew now what love might feel like. Piya had just been a major crush while Lexie was something beigger. It must be love. He didn't know how to explain his irrational behaviour. Only one way to clear out this confusion is ask the lady herself. It would give Kabir the opportunity to check out how Lux was doing. Give him some assurance of Piya being safe. It was all he wanted. It wasn't his fault he didn't trust Abhay. The man was anything but reliable. People were often hurt around him. Kabir didn't want to see Piya hurt ever again.
Abhay was thinking about Kabir. About Misha. Both were far gone with their personal feeling for both his family members. Lured in by some unknown magical cord. Abhay didn't see this bonding happening so fast. It was bizarre. Kabir accusing Abhay of hurting Piya had struck a raw nerve. Abhay was still kicking himself for allowing this madness to engulf him. For the time being Lux was safe this was a blessing in itself. It was more than he could ask for. Abhay was still worried about Piya. How was she doing now? He'd soon find out. He reached home. He was about to open the door when Lux already beat him to it. Damn he wqas fast. Abhay examined Lux from head to toes. He seemed fine from the outside but how was he on the inside. Abhay checked Lux's forehead. It wasn't cool like his own skin but it wasn't burning hot either like a wolf's Interesting.
Abhay saw Lux's eyes carefully. There was plenty of reaction there-"No fever Lux? Any pains, Aches?"
Lux-"I'm as good as knew."
Abhay-"At least your in shape unlike last night!"
Lux beamed enthusiastically-"So how was Uni without us? Did U miss us? How was Misha?"
Abhay smiled-"Uni was same old. We've been assigned a business venture with Kabir, Misha, Tracker and gues who? T! I've signed all our names up too so i've brought the assignment with me to pass on to U guys so happy reading."
Lux-"And Misha?"
Abhay just laughed-"So it's Misha who U really want to discuss huh? Fine i can see how much my family really care about me. Misha's upset with U Lux. I'm not sugar coating it. The earful i've had isn't worth it. Seeing as U are on the mend i won't shelter U from her wrath. She is p****d off at U buddy for giving her the cold shoulder. Misha is proactive in all her friends life. All she wants is some common curtesy. U know tell your date why your not picking up. I get a feeling we'll get a surprise visit today even if i told her to come tomorrow."
Lux's face fell flat-"Misha's fuming huh? What was i suppose to do huh? I can't even think about her without going a little crazy. There's not exactly a pamphlet with all the info on how to overcome the side effects of morphing into some freak. I don't want to hurt Misha. Not till i know what i'm facing. A few more days then i'll know for sure."
Abhay knew where Lux was coming from. Its how he felt about Piya-"Where is everyone?"
Lux-"Upstairs sleeping it off and Piya is fine! A little dramatic with her own hatred. The girl is how U expect her to be. All over the place. I think the space did her some good"
Abhay-"Good to hear. I'd better go freshen up. It's been a long day."
Lux shouted the other to wake up while Abhay took a hot shower.
