Since the modi family are suppose to be gujarati i found it odd that when kinjal was leaving the house she was throwing rice behind her. The bride does not do that at gujarati weddings. Only noticed it watching on tv today in the UK. I think they got the gujarati rituals mixed up with punjabi ones. Also they missed the curtain between the bride and groom before the exchange in garlands. Coming from a gujarati family my mum picked it to pieces lol.

I did that when I got married and I am gujarati. I believe we do, do that ritual. It significies that when a girl is leaving her parents house she is wishing that even after she leaves the house is still full with all the happiness.

Maybe it one of these add on rituals taken from other cultures. I have never seen it at a gujarati wedding bride usually just meets her family before leaving with her groom. Mind you I seen a girl arrive to her mandap in a palki so i guess anything goes.
