Chapter 9

Recap: They had made a silent yet mutual decision to unite only after their wedding. But today their spark ignited into a fire neither one of them could extinguish.

"I can do this, I can do this.", she repeated the chant to herself as she walked into Khurana mansion. "Geet beta, you are here. I asked Maan to bring you down for dinner an hour ago." Then why couldn't he tell me that, maybe he can't face me after'she thought. Geet quickly came out of her thoughts. "No Dadi ma, he told me but I fell asleep" she tried to lie smoothly but lying was never her forte. Dadi smiled. "It's ok beta. Could you ask Nakul to start setting dinner? I know Vicky said he would be home soon but I haven't seen Maan. Could you go and call him down for dinner?" Geet played her duppatta nervously at the thought of facing Maan again yet Geet slowly nodded "Ji (yes)". She walked to the stairs. "And geet beta." Geet turned around but continued walking. She collided with Maan's hard chest. They both stepped back as an electric shock went through both of them Geet casted her eyes down and started her nervous habit of twirling the edge of her duppatta around her fingers. Maan also looked around randomly pretending to be oblivious to the sudden crash. Dadi also pretended to be oblivious to their sudden tension between her favorite love-birds and said, "Oh Maan beta, you are finally here. I was just about to tell Geet that I also called Meera to join us for dinner." "But Dadi, Vicky doesn't know about her and --." " Don't know about who," Vicky walked in casually from the door in jeans and leather jacket. They all stood there speechless, looking at one another. Maan was the first to recover "Woh Vicky, Dadi was talking about Meera who is a friend of geet. She coming for dinner" "Oh ok, is she single?" Maan gave him an angry glare and said, "Vickyyy". "Jeez, Just kidding BB" Vicky said as he laughed.

"Sorry I am late Dadi, it's just that I got caught in work." Meera said as she walked in. Nakul came and took her bags from her. Dadi smiled at she saw her second soon to be daughter-in-law. Meera gave a tight hug to both Geet and Dadi and a side hug to Maan as well. "Well hello to you gorgeous." Vicky said in his flirtiest voice. He leaned down and gave her a friendly kiss on her hand. Meera stood there stumped and look from at everyone and then at the stranger. "Vicky!!!", Maan said in a warning tone. Vicky laughed. "Just kidding BB, I am Vicky, the youngest of the brothers and seriously I am harmless Miss---" Meera hesitated "Meera" said she genteelly tugged her hand out of Vicky's hold. "Come on Vicky, go and freshen up beta. Dinner is almost ready." "Ok D, be back in a jiffy." , he said as he flashed a full grin. After Vicky went off, Meera looked in confusion from one to another. Maan and Geet also looked at one another and passed a look of understanding. Even with awkwardness they were feeling for one another from earlier vanished the moment they needed one another. Geet slightly nodded at Maan before taking Meera's arm. "Come Meera, I will explain." She pulled Meera to a corner and explained everything in hushed whispers. Meera nodded her head in understanding. "Don't worry Geet, our future brother-in-law won't find out a thing. Geet smiled and gave a hug to Meera. Maan watched intently from a distance. He smiled as he saw the smile on her face. I have to talk to her about--. I am not going to let it put distance between us, he thought. Honestly, he was missing the bubbly and witty Misiti. And he was not sorry for coming close her. And the more he thought about it, the more confused he became with their reaction. Geet seemed to reading his thoughts because she looked over nodded and gave him a sweet smile. No, they hadn't made a mistake by coming closer to each other; she thought as she answered her own question she asked herself earlier.

" Well, sorry to keep all you folks waiting" Vicky said as he came back in. Everyone sat the dining table to enjoy dinner. "So Meera, how did you meet Geet? Meera looked at up from her plate but didn't know how to answer Vicky's question. "Actually, Geet used to live with me for a while before Prince Charming swept her away." Vicky smiled. "Ah, I see, you played cupid for them. Then you must believe in love." Meera couldn't help but smile when she thought about the love of her life. "Yes I do believe in love. I believe that love is the most forgiving emotion which has the power to accept your better half with their mistakes and flaws." Maan looked at Geet to find her also looking at him. Meera's words were more effect on them than Vicky who was still at it with his flirting.

Maan and Geet looked into each other's eyes, which mirrored their own longing. Geet sighed and brought her hand forward to hold Maan's fingers. Maan smiled and held geet's hand tighter. He skimmed his thumb along her fingers. Geet blushed and smiled wishing dinner would be over soon so they could be alone. Dadi observed the lovebirds silently patching up over whatever issue they were having earlier. They wanted to be alone so she was going to make it up happen. "Ok kids, thank you for a wonderful family dinner. Meera beta, I am going to head upstairs, thanks for coming. And you Vicky sir, please help me to my room.", she said as she got up. Maan and Geet snapped out of their own world to glance at their plates to see it full. They disengaged their hands as they stood up. "It's okay Dadi, anytime. I should get going too. My day starts early tomorrow." She gave Dadi and Geet a light hug before walking out. "Let's go D, time for bed", Vicky said.

Maan quickly grabbed Geet's hand again to pull her away. They silently walked to the outhouse where they knew they could be alone. Once in the room, they came into each other's arms and it seemed like they haven't been in each other's arms for ages. "I missed you" they both said in unison and engulfed each other in a hug again.

They pulled apart and held each other's hand unwilling to break contact. Maan sat on the bed and Geet leaned her back against his back. Geet sighed. All was well, she thought. Maan snaked his arm around her waist rested his head on her shoulder. They sat in comfortable silence without the need of words. The distance they put between themselves earlier seemed to pull them closer. "Maan, are we going to talk about it?", she asked courageously. Maan opened his eyes and looked at Geet's questioning eyes. "hmm, only if you want to. But I just want to say that I am not sorry or ashamed to have come close to you. I love you and being close to you is special to me. But I also know how much traditions and values mean to you and our union is meant to happen during our SR." Maan watched as a beetroot red blush crept on her face as well a ear-to-ear smile "You understand me too well, I do wish to unite on our wedding night." But just so you know, I am not sorry about earlier." "Really? Then maybe---", he asked with a mischievous look. Geet laughed. "Oh no Maan, don't try it."

Geet started to pull away to get up but held her back. "Where do you think you are going? I promise to be perfect gentleman.", he said in a sincere voice. "Oh I have my doubts but I am actually getting up because I have a gift for you. Be right back" she detangled herself from his arms and walked to the closet to pull out a wrapped box. She held it out to him. He took and opened in quiet patience. He then stared at the frame for a long time. The sliver and black-bordered frame had an engagement of them but it also had their names engraved in the frame at the bottom. "Misiti loves DD", he said repeatedly as he ran his fingers over the engraved words. "Do you like it?" Geet asked. Maan shook his head and Geet frowned. "No, I don't like it. Seriously, I love it. It's a wonderful gift. You don't know how to explain it to you but just know that it means a lot to me " , he said in a voice lazed with emotions. Maan placed the frame on the side table and kissed Geet's cheek and pulled her into a hug.

Geet smiled in sheer content as she rested her head in the crook of his shoulder. She made her comfortable by placing her head on his chest. Maan pulled the blanket to cover them both and Geet snuggled closer. "Geet" Maan said after a few moments of silence as she stroked her hair. "Hmm", she said with closed eyes. "I have to tell you something. I know honesty is important in our relationship." Geet opened her eyes and simply nodded to him to proceed. Maan hesitated but Geet laid a hand on his reassuringly. " I didn't tell you that along with all the meetings, I also went to meet Dev to talk about Vicky. I know you have forgiven him so I wasn't trying to hide it. I just want to find the same forgiveness for him in my heart. And today, I felt the same bond that we once shared coming back." Geet squeezed Maan's hand as she said, "I understand Maan. I do." "I knew you would and I think that's one reasons I love you." he said as he placed his hand on her cheek. "And I love you too.", she said simply.

"Hmmm, I could get used to this every night. Snuggling in your arms every night, a sheer bliss.", Geet said lovingly. Maan gave a small chuckle and said, "I am sorry to disappoint you sweetheart but every night is not going as peaceful as this one." Geet blushed and hid her head in his muscled chest. " And unless you want me to fall asleep here, I should get going." Geet pouted. "Do you have to? I am so comfortable in your arms. But I know you have to go so--" Geet started to straighten her posture but Maan held her hand. "On second thought, I want to stay for a while." She looked so sad by the thought of him leaving that he couldn't bear to leave her. Geet smiled and closed her eyes as she brought her head back to her desired spot. She entwined her hands with his and enjoyed the soft sensation of long fingers running lightly through her thick hair. Soon, they had fallen into a deep yet innocent sleep almost like babies with their bodies close and their hands entwined.
