Am I the next Bond girl? The idea is flattering but it's just a rumour," was what Freida Pinto was heard to be saying after she was widely touted to be the next Bond girl. But a new betting section of popular bookmaker Paddy Power reiterates the popular verdict that she's still the hottest favourite to star in the next 007 flick.
The Slumdog Millionaire star is listed with the shortest odds at 2-1 in the new betting section that the bookmaker is running on "Who will be the next Bond Girl?." Paddy Power is Ireland's largest bookmaker. Offline it conducts business through a chain of licensed betting offices and online, it offers sports betting, online poker, online bingo and online casino games.
What's further interesting is that Freida is ahead of several international biggies like Jennifer Aniston, Megan Fox and Keira Knightley with odds at 4-1, 6-1 and 8-1 respectively. The list also includes Sienna Miller, Natalie Portman and Jessica Alba.
"Freida is making fast moves in the international arena. Her high- profile projects with filmmaker like Woody Allen and Julian Schnabel has brought her in the limelight but she has to work hard now," says film trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Freida's probable Bond girl stint started doing the rounds after UK-based tabloid, The Sun, stated that she could join the illustrious list of 007 hotties after she was invited to a screen test for the next spy adventure.
Local bookies feel that if Freida manages to clinch the most-coveted role, it won't be very surprising. However, there is hardly any excitement about the next Bond girl in the cricket- dominated country.
Of course, Freida and the Bond girl talk has excited cinegoers across the globe. They feel Freida could bring in a completely different look and interest levels to the next instalment of Bond's adventures.
"I think this (casting Freida) is a brilliant idea and plays into the global appeal of the 007 much better than pairing Bond with someone like Jennifer Aniston, who also wants to get in on the action," writes Jarett Wieselman of In Touch Weekly magazine in his blog on New York Post. Coming back to the betting, the odds stated by Irish bookmaker apply to the new love interest in the next James Bond film starring actor Daniel Craig.
