An Entity bean came into his local bar on Monday night, and his eyes fell on a beautiful Session bean.

He went over to her, gave her some line, but was denied.
The next day the barman grinned when he saw the Entity once again show up, and hit on the Session bean. Once again, denied.

On the third night, after getting dissed again, the Entity came and sat at the bar. The barmen gave him a drink and said... 'You are definitely persistent'.

how abt this... 😉

OK...i have an idea...how about the topic for today is what Pams had posted earlier about female infanticide? And the increasing IMR and MMR (posted by Maddy) in low-income areas in India?

My thoughts -
Female infanticide that occurs in some areas in India (most notably northern India) is a major problem in terms of future labor force productivity in those areas. Did you know that females are, on an average, expected to live longer than men? Thus, if the female life expectancy in a given country is lower or equal to that of men, there is a definite bias against women in that country? Did you know that while India ranks in the top 5 countries of the world in terms of the rate of growth of its GDP, it ranks 110th when we consider human development, and 115th when we consider gender disparity??

Why isnt something being done about this? When channels like Sahara can air what these doctors are doing, why arent officials cracking down on these doctors and individuals that are promoting infanticide? I partially blame this on the restrictions of sonography methods before the 5th month, and even after that gender of the baby is not announced. Am I supporting abortion of females (female foeticide)? NOT AT ALL...but it is better than the alternative that is being considered by families in regions with low education and an anti-female agenda. Have the roots of dowry taken such a stronghold in the northern society that people are willing to kill their own babies??? The only other creatures that kill their own babies willingly are snakes and reptiles...and that is because they lack the mammalian characteristic and instinct for survival.
If a whale can carry a stillborn calf on its back until it literally rots away, why can humans not have the decency to nurture their children? In my opinion, the men who allow their babies (daughters) to be killed at birth should be neuterized...as a penalty for not ever being able to or deserving to have other children. A woman who gets an abortion done because she is carrying a female baby should be "fixed" so that she can never take such a decision again...

I work with economic data from all over the world, and this shameful practice occurs only in India...not even in countries where food is so scarce do people resort to killing their babies at any cost! It reminds me of a National Geographic channel special on prehistoric man. The women of a tribe would typically resort to cannibalism IF the baby was stillborn since food was unusually scarce...but that was hundreds of thousands of years ago...what about now?

Maybe if the penalty for supporting or committing female infanticide was very very high, then people would not participate in such atrocities.

On the other hand, if these families are not going to care for the female children, do they deserve to have offspring at all?? I wonder...

Kruti, this is a very serious issue. Even in the major cities where you have nursing homes flourishing that does sex determination of unborn foetus. The root of the problem is lack of awarenees. We are still stuck to the age old belief that the daughter is the cause of all problems b'cos you have to dole out a hefty dowry for her marriage. We are still misled by religious babas and political parties who believe that religion comes before all rational thoughts.

Sanril, that was great. I wish I had a few like you in my project team. They are all so dry out here. Cannot even create humor from the work that they are doing.

You know the irony is that in other parts of the modern world, sex determination is carried out so that parents-to-be can pick out names, and start getting prepared for the boy or girl that is going to enter their homes... it is the happiest event imaginable for these people...
And on the other hand we have ignorant fools who are being encouraged by political and now it seems medical agenda (in some select areas) giving disproportionate importance to the male child and options for NOT having a female child...i wonder how many of these babies are officially reported as being "death after delivery" thereby unduly raising the IMR for those regions...what policy could help those that kill their own offspring!!!!

Kruti, during the one year of my parctice as a doctor I was treated as an outcast because I would not;
1. Write false medical certificates and bills.
2. Prescribe brands being pusshed by medical representatives.
3. Suggest investigations to be conducted at specific pathologic laboratories.
4. Give painful injections of only distilled water (very painful) to create the impression that I am good.
