PART-8 (JEALOUSY,A VERY STRONG EMOTION)
The next morning at KC, Maan strode into the elevator and as the doors closed he saw that Geet was also inside, but she seemed to be trying to go to the very back wall of the lift. As he looked at her she lowered her eyes and looked down. As the floors went by one by one all the other people who had been inside the lift left and only Geet and Maan were left inside, alone. As the lift doors closed, no one of them said anything'''''''''''..
"Say something Geet", Maan thought.
"Maan sir, say something, ask me about the project at least.", Geet thought.
"So now u r not even going to wish me?"
"Are u going to pretend that nothing happened Maan sir?"
"U made the first move yesterday, so can't u be the first to talk today?"
"o.k. so this is how u intend to tackle this, I'll show u."
As their floor came, they both got off and went off to their respective cabins without acknowledging each other. There was a staff meeting scheduled for the official announcement to the media in general about the multiplex. The 8 chairs in the room around the table were all occupied and yet Geet couldn't shake off the awareness of Maan among so many people too'''''''..
Every single moment of Geet's hands, her eyes, her hair, the way she played with her bangles whenever she was distracted attracted Maan's eyes''''''''.
The shirt at Maan's shoulders bunched when he moved his hand to make a point and Geet felt her cheeks heat up remembering how she had gripped those shoulders while dancing the night before''''.
She couldn't seem to be able to look into his eyes ''. And Maan continuously went on trying to look directly at her eyes while talking with all the others to see what she was thinking, but Geet never once looked at him.
"So now she won't even look straight at me when I am addressing everybody together?" Maan fumed. When the meeting wrapped up Geet rushed back to her cabin, "Darn the man, how can he be so cool and calm? Lord why can't I be as aloof as he is, didn't yesterday mean anything to him? He was also dancing with me'..it wasn't just me, I'll get him to show me what he feels". A mischievous light came into Geet's eyes.
Maan came back to his room and saw that Geet wasn't at her table, he sat down on his chair then again went out of his room, he talked to someone here and someone there about work which he could have easily done from the cabin and all the time his eyes were looking for her. Pinky came up to him to tell him that some investors had called and that they were on the phone, Maan nodded ,
"AAh Pinky, where is Geet?"
"Sir, she went to the site with Adi sir, she said she might be late".
"O.k.".
It was almost 2pm when Maan came back from his video conference room and as he entered his room his eyes fell on Geet standing in front of her drawing board with her back towards his cabin. Maan sat down on his chair and picked up his phone, "Geet, have u decided whether you are going to do the next project or not?"
Geet slowly turned with the phone in her hands and looked directly at Maan through the glass.
"Yes".
"Yes what? You have decided or ur doing it?"
"Yes to both Sir, if u don't have any objection to working with me".
They were both looking at each other as Geet waited for Maan to answer, the second seemed momentous, Geet knew whatever he answered will decide her course''.
"I don't have any problems working with u".
Geet released the breadth she had been holding and plowed ahead throwing caution to the winds
"And am I to continue as before or have u decided whom to appoint as ur personal assistant?"
"If u dont have any objection to working with me, then I don't feel the need to appoint anyone new". Maan repeated exactly what she had asked him.
"No, I don't have any problems continuing as before". Still both didn't put down their phones.
"Geet"
"Yes Maan Sir?"
"Go and have ur lunch".
"Right sir", so saying Geet put down her phone and went off towards the cafeteria.
It was 6.30 when Geet entered Maan's cabin after knocking carrying his coffee pot, cup and her own one too, he was talking over the phone and paused for barely a mini minuscule of a second and then stood up and walked to the window at the back and continued talking. Geet had noticed his pause, she kept down the tray, took her cup and went off to her cabin, she stayed for the remaining 15 minutes and when Pinky came to call her, she left, glancing once at Maan through the glass partition, he was still talking.
Maan finished his talk and came to pour his coffee when he saw that there was a small foil wrapped square on his tray, he opened it , inside was a cheese and potato sandwich. He looked at her cabin but she had left, he well understood that Geet knew he had skipped his lunch and so she had made this for him. And for the first time without inhibitions MSk gave a small smile and didn't fight the delight the thought gave him.
On Thursday, on the day of the media launch, there was a grand business dinner. Everybody associated with the multiplex were excited, but Geet was in a fix, her Chachu and aunty had again & again told her the day before that she had to attend a family dinner with them and their friends. Geet hadn't been able to tell MSK about her absence from the dinner as both had been very busy becoz of the launch and she hadn't seen him the whole day. When Maan came back, Adi came and helped him with all the files,
"Adi? Where is Geet?"
"Sir, she had to leave, she won't be able to attend the dinner today, some family matter sir, she had been looking for u sir, she even called u a few times, but I guess u were busy."
"she should have told me herself," Maan thought.
When Maan got into his car to go to the party, he opened his file for the launch and there on top of his blueprints was a note in Geet's handwriting''''''..
"Maan sir, I assumed that you will surely open this client's file in ur car before going to the party and so I slipped this note here, I hope I am correct in thinking so. I have to attend an urgent family matter which I haven't been able to avoid, so I won't be able to attend the dinner party today, I am sorry sir, hope u realize that I really tried".
Maan sat back with the note in his hand, how well Geet understood him, he carefully folded the note and kept it in his shirt pocket.
The party had started and the clients had also arrived, Maan stepped out from the banquet hall into the corridor outside to receive a phone call when he saw Raunak coming towards him. "Hi MK, you here?"
"Gd Evening, I have a business party in the banquet hall and u?"
"Family business, I have been dragged here, another attempt to wed me I think." Raunak nodded at the opposite door which led towards the small but exclusive private restaurant of the hotel, where Raunak's parents were sitting with some other people. The corridor where the two friends were stood had a two way mirror on both sides, as a result anyone standing in the corridor could see into both of the rooms but the people in both the rooms couldn't see into the corridor.
Raunak's cell rang and he grimaced, "I have to go, duty calls, see u later".
"Finish up whatever u have to do and then come and join in my party". Raunak went in and Maan dialed the previous number as the call connected he looked up into the restaurant and his eyes opened wide and his mouth dropped open'''''''.Geet's aunt was leading her niece'''.and Geet was looking drop dead gorgeous draped in a soft pink saree'''''..her hair was brushed loose'''''.her eyes seemed luminous and big'''''''.and her lips looked so soft and alluring with whatever she had done to them'''''''''..
"Helloo''.Maan? are u there? Helloo?"
"I'll call u later," he said and switched off his cell, he seemed to come out of his trance and blinked. He took two deep breadths to make the knot in his chest go away.
"Geet.?" He breathed, "Raunak is to meet with Geet?" he watched Raunak and saw how his friend also looked struck by lightning. Raunak kept Geet's hand a tad longer than was necessary for the usual hand shake and clearly Geet didn't like that. Maan felt an anger so intense towards Raunak that unconsciously he took a step towards the door before he stopped himself.
