After the smashing success of 'Balika Vadhu' with a child protagonist, 'Uttaran' was next addition to the line. Started as the story of Ichcha, a poor girl from the slums who hopes for a better life and befriends a rich girl Tapasya, the show expectantly grabbed eyeballs, led to debate of using child actors for the gruelling schedules of the small screen industry. The show was a hit but became a bigger one when it took a generation leap of with both the girls becoming adults. The average TRP of the show has been 4.5 – 5.5.
