Chapter 16

Sanjeev walked over to Ahem. "So you are Ahem Parag Modi, my daughter's husband or should I say ex-husband." Upon hearing that Ahem got confused. Ex-husband, he was still her husband. Had she married someone else. "Everytime I think about the day I found my Gopi I hate you more and more. My Gopi would have given up everything for you, but you. You broke her heart day in and day out. You couldn't even leave her alone after she left now could you. You had to go and rub salt in her wounds. You had the newspaper's print you wedding announcement for my daughter didn't you." Gopi thought Ahem had married Anita, that's why she was so distant and cold towards him. Ahem turned towards Gopi and knelt down.

"Gopi, Anita and I didn't get married. You and I are still married. You're my wife" Gopi looked over at him and he thought he saw something in her eyes. It looked like a twinkle of hope. Sanjeev grabbed Ahem by the collar and threatened him.

"Don't you dare address my daughter as your wife. You never deserved her and you never will. She will never be yours again. You lost any rights over her the day you threw her out. Now I'm going to tolerate you in this house for the next couple of days for my daughter's sake and for Kamya's sake. After this wedding I don't want you anywhere near my daughter or near my company. As far as that project goes you can consider the contract terminated. I don't want to have anything to do with you or your filthy company. And one more thing, if I don't ruin your reputation and your company in this business world my name isn't Sanjeev Shah. I'll make sure you and your whole family end up on the streets exactly like my Gopi. The only difference will be that unlike Gopi you won't have to anyone to lean on." He let go of Ahem's collar and he fell back. Kokila looked down in shame. Someone was talking to her son like he didn't matter and she couldn't do anything to stop him because he deserved every word.

"Nahi Baba, aap ko meri kasam. You won't do such a thing." Sanjeev looked over at her daughter.

"You're lucky that my Gopi is so forgiving. If it wasn't for her kasam you would be a dead man Mr. Ahem Modi. I would do anything for my daughter and she doesn't want to see you hurt. Never have I met such an uncaring hateful man. Couldn't you see her love, but you didn't care did you. All you ever cared about was yourself. If you could never love why did you marry her? You thought she wasn't good enough for you because she couldn't read or write. Well Mr. Ahem Modi let me tell you something. You weren't good enough for her because you don't possess a heart. You may have all the knowledge and degrees in the entire world, but you will always be the most dimwitted man on this earth. Only an idiot wouldn't be able to see Gopi's pure heart." He walked over to Kokila.

"Aap Kokila hoh na. I won't say anything to you because my daughter respects you a lot. She told me she got the love of a mother from you and for that I will always be grateful. I would like to ask you one thing Kokilaji. Meri Gopi se kya galti ho gayi thi. If you loved my daughter as much as you say you do why would you let your son throw her out like that. My daughter didn't choose your son you chose my daughter. Why did my daughter get blamed for that? My daughter never learned to read or write because her Mami was a cold heartless woman. Why did my daughter get blamed for that? My daughter loved you family like her own. So much so that she did anything and everything to protect your daughter from disgrace. Why did my daughter get blamed for that? As far as I'm concerned you are just as much to blame for what happened to my Gopi as Ahem if not more." Kokila looked up with tears in her eyes. She had no answers to any of his questions. He next walked over to Jigar.

"Jigar, apne meri Gopi beta ka hamesha saath diya. You accepted her from the beginning as your Bhabhi. You gave her the love and respect of a Bhabhi from day one exactly like she deserved. You noticed her sweet and caring nature from the beginning so why were you so quick to judge her. You were the first to notice her kind heart so why were you so quick to believe others when they were disgracing her." Jigar looked down in shame. He had no answers either. Sanjeev walked over to Parag.

"Paragbhai I know you loved Gopi like a daughter and you stuck up for her when no one else would. You never once believed that Gopi could do such a thing. You really respected and loved her and for that I thank you. I will ask you this though; if you knew Gopi was so innocent why did you let these people treat her this way. You had a voice why did you stop your son. You were his father. A father steers his children away from the wrong path, and you know your son was taking the wrong path. Why didn't you stop him?" Parag looked away. He didn't know what to say. Sanjeev walked over to Hetal and Chirag.

"Hetalben and Chiragbhai you were the eldest of the family. Why didn't you stop this from happening? As the eldest in the house you had some responsibilities. Why didn't you shoulder them? Gopi loved you Hetal like the mother she never had. If you made her your daughter why couldn't you protect her like one?"

"Kinjal beta you're still young and you have a lot to learn. Your Gopi Bhabhi loved you a lot. She wanted to protect you from yourself. I'm really glad that you're happy and that everything in your life is going well because if I do anything to ruin your life or marriage I would only be hurting my daughter. Ruining your happiness would make Gopi's sacrifice go in vain and I would never do that. I hope you appreciate everything Gopi sacrificed for you because you sure didn't deserve it." Sanjeev looked over and Gopi.

"I'll tell you about my Pari. She has such a big heart, that no matter how many times you wound it she will still never speak ill of you. She is so compassionate, that you can ruin her entire life and she will still never let anyone ruin yours. Meri Pari to duniya se bahot alag hai. Is duniya mein sab sirf apne bare mein soch the hain. Meri Pari sirf doosro ke bare mein soch thi hai. When her Khanaji made her, he filled her whole being with kindness and benevolence. He wanted to show the world, this is what my love looks like. I'm sending you my gem in your world because you seem to have forgotten about it. I want to show you this pari, cherish her like you would me. Love her like you would me. I've seen a lot of hate and selfishness in this world, but I have never seen a love like Gopi's. When she loves someone she loves with her whole heart. Is Kalyug mein bhi Kanaji ne hum sabko ek pari beji hai, unka pyar beja hai, Gopi ke roop mein. He seems to have forgotten that no one deserves such a precious gem in this world. She belongs somewhere else. She belongs in a place where she will be cherished. She belongs in a place where she will be loved. Khanaji mein aaj apko prathna karta hoon. Is duniya mein kabhi dusri Gopi mat bejna. This world doesn't deserve one." Gopi's heart was bursting with love. She had never had someone in this world that loved her this much. She only ever had her Khanaji. She didn't know how she would thank him for sending her this much love. Gopi went over to her Baba and wiped his tears from his eyes.

"Baba, Khanaji has given the greatest gift in the world. He gave me you love. I couldn't ask for anything more. You are my world now. Mere Papa, aur uski Beti. I don't want anything else." She led Sanjeev back into his room. He had had enough excitement for one night.

Kamya looked over at her family in shame. She found out tonight how much torture her best friend had had to endure. "Kokila Bua do you know why I stopped you from helping Gopi tonight? She doesn't need your help. Woh ehsaan aap apne paas hi rakiyega. Who knows when you might ask for it back? Gopi has her Baba, she has me. She doesn't need anyone else's help or protection. Aur Rashi tum. You did all this to ruin Gopi's life once again. Don't you have any shame? Why would you anyway. Like mother like daughter. You deserve to be exactly where your mother is right now. You don't deserve to be happy. I want you to get out of this house. If you so much as think of hurting Gopi again, I will make you pay."

"Are you threatening me Kamya." Rashi said with a smirk. Kamya laughed at her confidence.

"Oh no I would never dream of threatening you Rashi. It's definitely not a threat. It's a promise! Now get out before I have you thrown out." She watched Rashi's retreating figure and turned towards the Modi Parivaar. "If anyone has any objections they are free to leave. I won't stop them." Jigar was happy that someone finally did what he never had the courage to do. Gopi came back out to see Rashi leaving. She knew it was Kamya and she loved her for it. This was her wedding, and she didn't want anyone's buri nazar falling on it. She still couldn't believe that her own family had turned out like this. She looked over at the gloomy faces and knew she needed to do something about it. She would never forgive herself if Kamya's wedding was ruined because of her.

"Kamya tumari shaadi hai. Smile a little. Aur Hetal Kaki, aapki beti ki shaadi hai. Please smile. Let's go Kamya we have a lot of work to do. We need to give you a facial, a manicure, and a pedicure before your Mehdi tomorrow. I want to pamper my friend. Let's go. Kinjal why are you standing there? Your sister is getting married. Don't you want to help me pamper her a little?" Gopi smiled over at Kinjal and her face lit up that her Bhabhi had acknowledged her. Kamya was proud of Gopi. Even after all this she was still thinking about her. Together Kamya, Kinjal, and Gopi went up to her room. One by one the rest of the family went into their respective rooms. They still had a lot of preparations before the wedding and Gopi was right. They couldn't ruin Kamya's day. There was only one person who couldn't stand being in that house any longer. He needed air. He needed to get away. He walked through the front door towards his favorite spot.
