Chapter 56: Mind Tricks

Meher sighed as she looked at the various salwar kameezs, lenghas, and anarkali suits laying on her bed. She was having a hard time deciding what she was going to be wearing for the engagement tomorrow. She had asked for Heer's input but was frustrated that her sister told her that she thought all of them looked really nice on her. She took a step back and tapped her chin pondering what to do. She suddenly gasped as she felt a pair of hands cover her mouth and heard a low teasing whisper float into her ears, "Surprise..." Meher fidgeted trying to break away from the hold but her assault wasn't allowing her to succeed. "It's me...relax," the voice finally said releasing her.

"Preet! What are you doing here?" Meher said with annoyance.

He crinkled his forehead at her odd question. "I live here. Where else should I be?"

"I mean in my room," Meher sighed. Preet quickly flashed a smile sensing her sour mood and gently placed his hands on her arms pushing her to a chair to sit down. "What are you doing?" He placed his finger on her lips commanding her to stay silent. "I don't have time for games..."

"Hush, will you? You need to pick an outfit right?" Preet replied cutting her off.

"Yes, and Heer Didi was no help at all. She told me that they all looked good on me and I should choose the one that I liked the most," Meher ranted.

"And this is a problem?" Preet inquired arching his eyebrow.

"Well, of course it is. I can't decide," Meher replied.

Preet smirked and swung his right hand over and behind his head twisting it outwards with confidence exclaiming, "Main Hoon Na!" Meher stared at him with little amusement that he was doing the trademark Shahrukh Main Hoon Na move. "Smile," Preet commanded as he used his fingers to prop the corner of her mouth upwards. "Now hold that." Preet then went to the bed and picked up the salwar kameezs. "What's wrong with these? I really like this red colored one," Preet asked.

"I don't think they fit this occasion maybe for a nice party but this engagement has become so extravagant..." Meher replied.

"Okay, what's wrong with theses?" Preet asked going to the anarkli suits. "This blue and gold one looks really pretty."

"I like then but I'm not sure about the colors," Meher said.

Preet placed the clothing down and looked at the lenghas. He picked up a beautiful decorated orange one and smiled. "Meher, can you go put this one on?"

"Why?" she replied.

Preet handed it to her and began pushing her towards the bathroom. "Just go put it on." He stood there for several minutes waiting for Meher to come back out and when she did he grinned sloppily. His eyes gently roamed across her body taking in her figure and the way the colors of the lengha complimented her skin tone. "You look very pretty Meher. I really like this one."

Meher glanced down at her outfit and then lifted her eyes back up in time to catch the way Preet's eyes were glowing at her. She felt a warmness begin to spread in her cheeks and she shyly smiled. "Really?"

"You'll wear it to the engagement for me won't you?" Preet asked. Meher nodded in agreement causing him to grin. "See, I told you with me around you don't have to worry about anything. I'll be your personal situation solver."

She softly chuckled at his response and then asked, "So, what do I owe my personal situation solver?"

Preet twisted his lips in thought and then flashed his pearly whites. He moved closer to her and softly requested, "A kiss."

Meher grinned as she placed her arms around his neck. "I think I can do that." Preet rested his hands around her waist as she placed a kiss on his lips. There was a simple sweetness in the way she delivered her kisses that always made him wanting more. Preet leaned back in as their first kiss ended to initiate another. Meher obliged and melted into the moment; her mind forgetting everything but the feeling of his arms around her and the touch of his lips on hers. Their tender moment was soon interrupted with a tat-tat-tat knocking against the bedroom door.

"Meher?" Veera called out.

Preet quickly scrambled and ran into the bathroom closing the door shut. After making sure that he was securely inside Meher turned her attention towards her bedroom door. "What's up?" she asked as she opened the door.

"Oh, she's not with you?" Veera muttered. "You don't happen to know where Maya is do you? I swore I saw her a few hours ago."

"Sorry. I haven't seen her. Maybe she went with Ash to the store to pick up a few things," Meher replied.

"Yea, I guess so. Do you know where Heer Di is? Kulraj Di was asking about her," Veera said.

"Oh, I think Heer Didi went to the car dealership with Prem Jiju. I think they are getting a new car...or something like that," Meher informed.

"A new car? But Heer Di already has a new car," Veera replied.

"I think Prem Jiju wants to get rid of that one because it was a gift from Prashant," Meher said.

Veera nodded her head in understanding, "Yea, that makes sense. I wouldn't want to be driving around in a gift that my ex-fiance gave me. Wonder what she'll come back with."

"Prem Jiju always wants to get the best for Heer Didi even when she tries to tell him not to fuss about it...he won't listen. I'm sure he'll make sure she gets something she likes," Meher said.

"Prem Bhaiya is always like that. He always wants the best for others. He puts other people's happiness before his own," Veera said. "Well, I guess I have to wait until Maya gets back to help me."

"You need help? Is there anything I can do?" Meher asked.

Veera shook her head, "No, Meher you've been running around a lot lately. I'll manage. You should rest a little while you can. Oh, by the way love the lengha you have on. Are you wearing that for the engagement?"

"You like it?" Meher asked with a smile.

"You look beautiful in it. If you weren't thinking about wearing it before...I really think you should wear it now," Veera replied.

"Thanks," Meher beamed. Veera smiled and then left the room. Meher went back over to the bathroom door and announced, "You can come out now. She's gone." Preet opened the door and cautiously looked out. "Phew, that was close," he then smirked, "So where were we?" Meher simply smiled and placed her hands back around his neck to pick up where they had left off.

Maya gently blew into the tip of the lid of her coffee cup before taking a relaxing drink. She sighed as the aroma drifted into her taste buds and sent a soothing alertness to her body. "Good coffee?" Harman chuckled with a smile at the way Maya was enjoying her hot beverage.

"Yes, thank you. But we really need to get back before they start looking for me," Maya sighed.

"Don't worry," Harman replied as he slowed the car to a stop waiting for the red light to turn green. "I'll have you back safe and sound. We've bought coffee for the entire house they won't suspect a thing. Let's just enjoy our coffee date."

Maya smiled and held Harman's hand while they wanted for the light. "Do you really think that your Dad's going to be okay with us dating?"

"Look what happened was because of Prashant. He can't hold a grudge against your Dad because of that," Harman reasoned. Maya glanced downward with a worried expression. "Don't worry. Everything is going to be fine. I promise you we will tell everyone soon enough."

"I know," Maya sighed. "Should we talk to your parents next week after all the fanfare of the engagement is finished with? I really don't want to ruin this moment for Prem and Heer...especially after everything they went through. I don't want the news of us dating cause any unhappiness or stress to the family."

"Unhappiness? Whoa, it isn't like we are doing something horrible. You make it sound like the family is going to hate you or something. You're good friends with Veera and Preet is actually quite impressed with you...and everyone else in the family likes you. Just yesterday Ma was talking about your fashion business sense."

"Really? Preet is impressed and your Mom was talking about me?"

"Yes, so don't worry about anything," Harman replied and started driving again. "Hey, you think you can give me a piece of the coffee cake?"

"Sure," Maya replied and grabbed the large brown paper bag that was filled with all sorts of pastries and breads as accompaniments to the coffee they had purchased for everyone. Maya torn a small piece of cake and placed it into Harman's mouth. She giggled as a few crumbs clung to the side of his mouth and then lovingly brushed them away for him. Harman swallowed and then without saying anything simply opened his mouth again in silent request for another piece. Maya broke another piece off and stuffed it into his mouth causing him to smile as he happily ate.

It wasn't long before they reached their destination. Harman pulled the car into the driveway of the Juneja Mansion and parked the car. Maya took a napkin and handed it to Harman for him to wipe his mouth. "Thanks," he smiled as he held her wrist.

"Harman, let go," Maya replied in alarm. "What if someone sees us?"

"No one is here," he replied and pulled her closer planting a kiss on her lips.

"Please let's go before someone comes," she timidly said blushing at the way Harman was starring at her.

"Okay," he replied with a smirk and then opened the car door. "Let's get the coffee inside before it goes cold." Maya quickly got out of the car and helped him take the things inside the house.

A man in a fitted gray suit nervously played with his tie as he strained his ears to make sure he had heard the sentence correctly. "You want to trade the car in for the exact same model and color..." the man repeated.

"That's correct Dave," Prem smiled looking straight into the eyes of the salesman.

"Is there something wrong with the car?" Dave asked.

"No, nothing is wrong with the car," Prem answered.

"May I inquire the reason then?" Dave hesitantly asked.

Prem rubbed the side of his face with his index finger and replied, "We just want---"

"It's the color," Heer interrupted. "Is it possible to get a new color?" Prem turned to her giving her a strange stare. She signaled with her eyes for him to stay quiet but he took her arm and quickly said to Dave, "Excuse us for a minute."

"Prem, if it's going to be a hassle then let's just get a new car," Heer suggested.

"But you like this car don't you?" Prem said. "I don't see why they can't do it. I'll pay for it."

"It's ridiculous...it's a perfectly good functioning car...I don't mind driving it," Heer replied. "Let's just go home."

"But I mind...and it's the principle of the matter. It's a gift from Prashant...it just doesn't sound right...you using a gift that your ex-fiance gave you," Prem replied. "I want to give you something."

"I really could care less about the car. Why don't you just take the car? Trade this S60 for something you like," Heer replied. "I've already gotten what I want...you."

Prem shook his head, "You still need a car."

"Just trade this car in and I'll take the Honda Accord," Heer suggested.

"That car is old...it's about time I get a new one. Okay, we will do this. We will trade in the S60 model for something else and then tomorrow I'll come back and purchase a new car for you," Prem said.

"Are you sure...all these major purchases?" Heer asked with concern.

"It's fine. Ma and Bauji know we are here to get a new car...my car will be a wedding slash early graduation gift," Prem said. "My parents will be fine with all of this. I just want you to be happy."

"I am happy," Heer replied. "Please, Prem."

"I won't be happy until we get this settled," he replied.

"Okay, fine," Heer said.

Prem smiled and went back to Dave who was waiting patiently for their final decision. "We would like to look at the XC90."

"That's an excellent choice," Dave replied with a bright smile as he walked over to the showroom model. "It's a great vehicle. Besides having the side mirror safety technology that warns you if there is a car next to you when you are trying to switch lanes it also comes equipped with our new safety brake feature. Any particular color you are looking for?"

"Metallic silver...but let's talk packages and the price," Prem said nonchalantly. "What can you give me?" Dave's confident smile soon flattened as he realized that Prem wasn't going to be such an easy customer to please. He was going to be in a tough bargaining battle before anything would be decided.

Several hours later Prem strolled happily out of the office with Heer by his side with the signed car papers in his hands. Dave followed behind wiping the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief just glad they were able to finally come to an agreeable price. "The cashier desk is over there by the service center. I'll go and get the car and pull it over to the front for you," Dave said.

Prem wrote a check and made the first installment for the new car. Heer then went to her car and double checked that it was clean and there wasn't anything of hers left inside. "Make sure to check the trunk," Prem advised. Heer popped the back open and took out a large black umbrella. "I totally forgot about this," she said and then locked the car.

"Good thing I told you," Prem said.

They walked back to the front of the building where they exchanged car keys with Dave. "Here you go Mr. Juneja. Here is my card if you need anything else. It was a pleasure...truly you know how to strike a hard bargain," Dave smiled.

"Thanks for your help Dave," Prem said shaking his hand. "I'll make sure if there is anyone else in the market for a car I'll let them know to ask for you."

Prem opened the door for Heer first and then got into the driver's seat. "So, where to next? We were at the dealership for such a long time...is there anywhere you want to go?"

"It's fine. You had Dave sweating so badly...I actually kind of felt bad for him. You definitely know how to make a deal," Heer said as she held his hand. "Can we swing by the townhouse real quick? I need to pick up some things."

"Of course," Prem replied lifting her hand up to his lips.

"Prem, we are in public," Heer said trying to move her hand away. Prem smirked as he stubbornly held on refusing to let go. He bent his head downward and placed a gentle kiss again and then let go to start the car.

Veera walked around the tent checking to make sure everything was put in place as it should be. The garlands where hanging nicely inside and the tables and chairs were set up ready for the table cloths and other decorations to be placed on top. The plates, silverware, and buffet stands would be arriving early tomorrow morning with the caterers. She smiled and admired the elegance of everything that was being done for her brother's engagement. She loved him dearly and wanted nothing but the best for him. As she got to know Heer better she realized just how sweet she was. She knew her brother was in good hands. Heer really did care and loved Prem a lot and could be counted on to be there for him no matter what.

Veera rounded the corner and was accidentally bumped by a worker who was carrying a large box of decorations heading to the long buffet tables to start the tablescapes. She lost her footing and was about to tumble down onto the ground had it not been a pair of arms who caught her. Veera hit hard into the chest of someone wearing a gray t-shirt. She absent mindedly placed her hands on the person's chest to steady herself. She could feel from underneath the cotton fabric that the person who had caught her had a toned body. "Sorry," she mumbled and then glanced upwards to see Nihaal staring down at her. She moved away while he just stood there unphased by the contact. "You're welcome," he replied.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"I was told to help make sure the electric cords and wiring aren't in the way. I'm supposed to tape down certain cords so the guests don't trip," Nihaal replied holding up the roll of duct tape in his hands. "And you?"

"Just checking on things. I'll probably help them set up the tablescapes," Veera replied.

"Don't you have exams, papers, or projects?" Nihaal asked.

"I'm taking a little break from that. It's not every day your brother is getting engaged. I just want to make sure everything is perfect for him. I'm sure you feel the same way with Heer Di," Veera replied.

Nihaal frowned and placed the back hand of his hand on her forehead, "Veera are you sure you are feeling all right?"

"Why?" Veera replied annoyed that he was putting his hand on her forehead. She pushed his hand away and stared at him.

"You actually said something nice," Nihaal teased. Veera immediately scrunched her nose up at him and narrowed her eyes. "Oh, never mind looks like you're back to your old self again," he replied. "Just keep this look because the other one just scares me."

"Nihaal!" Veera said through gritted teeth.

"I think I hear my Mom calling me. I'll see you later," Nihaal quickly said with a smirk and then ran off before Veera could say anything more.

Prem flopped himself onto the bed and hugged one of the pillows gently taking in the sweet scent of orange-mango. He grinned at the thought that the scent would soon be perfuming his own pillows on his bed. He propped his head up and watched as Heer went through her dresser drawers looking for something. He left the bed and stood behind her, "Need any help?" Heer let out a nervous shriek causing Prem to flex his eyebrows in surprise. "Um, didn't mean to scare you."

"No, I just wasn't expecting it...I mean you were over there and the next minute your voice was right behind me," Heer replied turning around. She noticed his eyes gently straining to see what was in the drawer behind her causing her to nervously push it back. This action only sparked the curiosity in Prem even more.

"What's in the drawer?" he asked.

"Nothing," Heer replied. She tired stepping forward to force him to step back a few steps but it didn't work as he stood rooted to his spot.

"Well, if it's nothing then why won't you show me?" Prem asked trying to step around her.

"Prem, it really is nothing," Heer said. "Are you hungry? I'm a little hungry. Let's go downstairs and have a snack."

"I'm not hungry. You can go downstairs and have a snack," Prem replied as he moved towards the drawer. Heer blocked his hand from pulling the drawer out with her body but he swiftly grabbed her by the waist and moved her to the side. He pulled open the drawer and started laughing heavily at what was inside. "Seriously? You were afraid of showing me this?" Heer pouted and gently shoved him with her hands. Prem continued to hold her firmly and teased, "When we are married are you going to hide these things from me too?"

"Shut up," Heer replied frowning.

"Everyone wears them...noting to be embarrassed about. I'll show you my underwear drawer when we go home," Prem said as he continued to laugh. "I don't have any problems...we are spending the rest of our lives together...eventually we are going to see each other's underwear...whether in a dresser drawer or in the laundry. Were you planning on hiding all your dirty clothes from me as well and wash them secretly at night or something?"

Heer stepped on his toes and gave him a heavy push forcing him to let go of her. "You know instead of having the traditional three days where you can't see me before the wedding. I'll ask Ma and Bauji that we should just not see each other for one month so we can concentrate on finishing our school projects and papers."

Prem eyed her, "You wouldn't..."

"Oh, yes I would," Heer replied. "Oh Ma...Bauji, it's been really hard for both of us to concentrate on our school work...with our work and everything at the hotel and the recent events...our grades have been suffering a little...we need to concentrate and end this semester well. And you know what they say distance makes the heart grow fonder...this will only strengthen our bond..."

Prem lunged for her only to meet with air as Heer ran towards her bed giggling. He spun around and ran after her. Heer grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. Prem pouted as it hit him in the head. He then picked it up holding it in his hands and chased after her trying to seek revenge. They made one round around the room before Heer grabbed the other pillow on her bed. She stood on her bed and swung her pillow while Prem dodged from the floor and swung with his pillow. They fought for a few seconds before Prem pulled her left leg causing her to fall onto the bed. He then pounced on top with a smirk. "Gotcha," he said in a mischievous tone.

"Ppppplease...Ppppremmm...ssstop!" Heer gasped as he tickled her mercilessly.

"Why should I? Threatening me like that? Three days will be like three years for me...and you were joking about one month?" Prem asked.

"Sssorry...haha-hehe...ahaha...I-I-I...wwwon't do it...I pppromise...please st-st-opppp..." Heer pleaded.

"That's right," Prem said. He then softly rubbed his nose against her nose, "That's the worst torture you can possibly do to me." Heer closed her eyes at the feel of his warm breath against her skin. Tiny shivers went down her spine as their lips barely touched and brushed by each other in a very sensuous way as they conversed. "Three days is tradition how are you going to manage?" she whispered.

"I don't know...they better guard you well...maybe I should just hide in your closet...no, under the bed," Prem replied gently pressing his lips to the corner of her mouth.

"We should try to follow it. I want us to start fresh without any troubles or worries...you know the way we initially started our relationship wasn't the most open and honest way..." Heer said.

"Since when are you so superstitious?" Prem asked tenderly pressing his lips to the other side of her mouth.

"I just don't anything bad to happen," Heer said.

"Nothing bad is going to happen," Prem replied. "It will only happen if you make it out to be that way."

"Prem, we have our whole lives to spend together," Heer reasoned.

"I'll try," Prem sighed as he softly pressed his lips on her lower lip.

Heer opened her eyes and pushed her hands on his chest forcing him back. "Prem..."

"You said try," Prem replied with his eyes opened. Heer gave him a crossed look causing him to bow his head, "Okay, I will do it. We'll obey the tradition." He then rolled her over so she was on top. He cupped her mouth before she could speak and smiled, "I know what you are going to say. We have to go...we've been out all day...our parents are probably wondering where we are and will be calling us soon. Let's spend some time together before we have to deal with the circus back home." He dropped his hand and lovingly traced his fingers through her hair as he tucked it behind her ear. Heer kissed the palm of his hand affectionately and gazed into his vibrant brown eyes. They were shining brightly conveying his love and devotion. She was always in awe that the look in his eyes was only for her. It warmed her heart and gave life to her soul to feel so loved, wanted, and needed by him. Heer gave him a tender kiss and then laid her head down on his chest to listen to his heart beat. Prem gently rubbed her back and held her in his arms silently thanking God for blessing him with such a wonderful partner. "Can I ask a favor?" Prem asked breaking the silence.

"What favor?" Heer replied speaking towards his chest.

"Let me spend the night in your room tomorrow," Prem said.

"Are you crazy? My brother is on the third floor with us. He sleeps in the room right next to mine. Are you asking to be put into the hospital?" Heer exclaimed.

"I can sneak in...not like I haven't done it before. Sometimes you have to live dangerously," Prem smirked.

"The house is going to be so chaotic tomorrow...with the guests and family we don't know who is going to be up and about...and if Nihaal Bhaiya catches you...you will have more to worry about then the cast on your arm," Heer replied.

"You can't stop me from trying you know," Prem stated.

Heer lifted her head and caressed his cheek. "I know I can't but I would like my groom to be in one piece." Prem pouted causing her to let out a soft chortle. She then kissed him gently on the lips to pacify him. Eventually the kiss deepened and Heer's hand wandered underneath Prem's shirt to touch his skin. Their make out sessions of late had become rather steamy as both partners allowed the other to cautiously explore each other without going over the limit. Prem let out a small groan causing Heer to retract her hand as he rolled her over so he was back on top. Heer arched her neck allowing Prem to shower kisses downward towards her chest. He placed gentle open mouthed kisses on her collar bone reveling in the taste of her skin. Heer ran her fingers through his hair as her breathing grew shallower. Sensing this Prem met her lips again and stayed put trying to control the situation so it wouldn't get out of hand. They both moaned in annoyance when Prem's cell phone went off. "Must be the house," Prem breathed heavily as he parted from Heer's lips. She patted his shoulder, "You should answer it." Prem sighed and got up from the bed.

"Haa, Ma...we got a new car...but I'll explain everything when we get home," Prem answered. "We stopped by the townhouse because Heer needed to pick up a few things. Okay, see you soon."

Heer went to her closet and pulled out a sturdy shopping bag and began placing some things she needed into it. "I'm all done. Let's go." Prem smiled and took her hand into his as they exited the room.

Everyone was sitting in the living room after dinner enjoying each other's company watching TV and chatting. Gayatri left to go to the kitchen to get the fruit plate out of the refrigerator. Lalit stood up and motioned with his hands for the girls in the room to stay put. "I'll go and help...you all relax...you've been running around a lot these past few days."

"It's okay Bauji. You stay and I'll go," Heer said.

"No, I order you to stay put. Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day for you...you should rest," Lalit replied.

"Look at that already taking such good care of your soon to be daughter-in-law," Balraaj said. "Your spoiling will make her forget all about me."

"Papa, I could never forget you," Heer stated.

"I'm not gaining a daughter-in-law but another daughter. I've already placed her in my heart like that...so there won't be any need for you to worry about her," Lalit said. "I'll make sure Prem treats her well and if he doesn't then he will have to answer to me." Balraaj laughed while Prem stared at his father who was giving him a stern glare. Lalit then excused himself and went to the kitchen to help his wife.

"So, what do you think?" Gayatri asked as she handed her husband a large serving tray.

"What do I think about what?" Lalit replied.

"About what I said earlier," Gayatri answered. Lalit arched his eyebrows and gave a pondering look. "Don't act like you don't know what I'm speaking of."

"Yes, they do seem to be getting along very well. But at this age one can never tell. As much as I would like to see Harman with Meher...I think we need to discuss this with Balraaj and Teji. It may be possible that they have someone else in mind for Meher. She is a bright and capable young lady like her sister," Lalit said.

"That is why if we want her we have to ask for her first before someone else comes along," Gayatri replied.

Lalit chuckled at his wife's behavior. "We haven't even finished with one marriage and you are already thinking about another. Let's get Prem and Heer settled before we even think about Harman."

"You can do that but that doesn't mean we can't plan ahead," Gayatri reasoned. Lalit remained silent deciding it was best not to say anything when his wife was in this type of mood. They continued to get the serving trays ready unaware that someone had been quietly listening in on the conversation.

Maya was hiding behind the wall holding her hand to her mouth in complete shock at what she had overheard. She had been in the bathroom and had missed the living room conversation. When she came out of the bathroom she heard some noises coming from the kitchen and decided to go over and find out if her help was needed. She stopped outside the doorway the minute she heard Gayatri and Lalit start talking about Harman. Maya knew she needed to talk to Preet, Meher, and Harman as soon as possible before things got complicated. She hurried back into the living room before Gayatri and Lalit came out of the kitchen with the serving trays.

The Juneja Mansion was alive with music and merriment as family, friends, and loved ones came to share in the joy of two families promising to unite their children together in holy matrimony. The engagement ceremony was successfully held without any interruptions much to relief of the Junejas and Maans. Everyone was smiling, praising, and blessing the happy couple who seemed lost in their own world of love.

Prem held Heer closely as they danced on the dance floor. He gently whispered words of love into her ear making her blush red and playfully punched his chest with her fist. Prem just chuckled and continued to tease her. "Behave...we have family around," Heer whispered.

"I'm whispering into your ear for a reason," Prem replied with a smirk.

"Hope he's behaving," Preet teased as he dance by with his cousin, Joyti.

"Wah-wah...I've never seen Prem act this way before...he's becoming a helpless romantic," Joyti replied smiling.

Heer gave Prem a slight glare while he grinned shrugging his shoulders as Preet and Joyti danced away. She glanced over to her left and caught the glint of her diamond engagement ring. It was sitting perfectly on her ring finger sparkling brightly at her. Her lips curved upward slightly as she recalled how Prem's hands were shaking as he slipped the ring on her finger during the ceremony a few minutes ago. She was just as nervous and was so thankful that she didn't drop his ring. She gave a tender squeeze on his shoulder and felt the new sensation of the platinum band pressing against her skin. Prem smiled at her affectionate gesture and then lowered her into a dip as the song ended. He stared intensity into her eyes as he slowly raised her up. Heer felt her heart pounding rapidly in her chest as she gazed back into his smoldering brown eyes. Their eye locking session was interrupted as the crowd suddenly broke out into applause and cheers. Heer immediately let go feeling shy and casted a downward glance. Prem just sheepishly grinned and rubbed the back of his head at being caught acting like that in public.

Soon everyone's attention was diverted by Lalit who was standing with a microphone ready to make an announcement or speech of some sort. Harman glanced nervously at Maya who had been his dance partner for the dance. They both looked over at Preet who was now standing with Meher. The two couples exchanged glances at each other wondering what they should do. It was almost an automatic heightened response of anxiety that whatever the Juneja patriarch was about to say wasn't going to be good news. After all their experiences before at the other parties they had ever attended speeches were dangerous things especially since they knew what Lalit and Gayatri Juneja were thinking concerning their relationships. And so without much further thought Preet held Meher's hand and raised their hands upward. Harman saw what his little brother was doing and mimicked the same thing. Then they both announced, "We're dating!"

Lalit stood there slightly stunned at the sudden interruption to his speech. Everyone else in the room stared wide eyed at the two couples. "Oh, that's nice," he uttered not knowing what else to say. "Um, I was just going to say the buffet is now open. Please everyone enjoy."
