he scolded her for being irresponsible i think sasha has done all this to creat misunderstandings between them but i am happy that her plan backfired in a way ..

PART-6-(MISSING EACH OTHER)

She paced, she swore, she sat down with her books, she put on her fav song on the stereo and sang on top of her voice along with Jagjit Singh but then stopped and switched it off. Nothing was able to hold on to her concentration for too long. Frustrated Geet sat down on the corner of her bed.

"Why am I unable to concentrate? Why do I keep remembering Maan Sir's words? How did he say all those things without stopping to think about them? No no no no'''..Geet concentrate, he is not that important, don't mess up ur exams becoz of his words''''''''but why am I so effected by what he has said? I get scolded by my professors too, I never dwell on them or their words so much."

"It must be surely becoz I respect him so much and want to gain his approval, no other reason''''right?'right Geet'''''now forget him and concentrate."

One hour later, she closed her books once again, it was useless''''..she admitted to herself that she wanted to know what had happened in the office after she had left.

"Whom should I call, Adi sir? No Pinky''''.yes Pinky." She dialed Pinky's number.

"Helloo, Pinky?"

"Hai Geet! Hw are u doing, u left in such a hurry, Maan sir was asking about u'''''oh ! so Sorry! See I started to babble, I forgot to ask u why u have called."

Geet's heart skipped a beat''''.Maan sir had been asking about her'''''

"Ahem'''''nothing, I just felt like talking to u, I was studying and wanted to change my mood and so I thought about u, u have become such a nice friend of mine'''erm'''''.why was Maan sir asking about me? Was he angry again about something or was he searching for something?"

"No, no, no'''..nothing bad again but why exactly I don't know as Adi sir was inside his cabin when Maan sir talked about you and Adi sir didn't tell me everything as there were many people all around us and that detestable Tasha was standing there'''.don't worry if something bad would have happened then Adi sir would have called u up to tell u''''."

"Yeah, right". They went on talking for some time more but Geet couldn't concentrate. She desperately wanted to know what Maan sir had said about her. She hastily said bye to Pinky and then stood with her phone in her hand debating whether it would be wise to call Adi sir.

"Geet? Why are u being so desperate to know what AB has said about u? why is it so necessary for u to know that? U know u are being silly, now either study or go down and spend some time with aunty," she gave herself a mental shake, "right''.that's what I will do." She tossed her phone on the bed and then went down.

The next morning as soon as Maan came into his office Ashok babu went forward and put a cup of coffee in front of him on his desk. Maan, as was habit looked through the business section of the paper and sipped at his cup and almost instantly made to spit it out'''''..

"What sort of coffee is this Ashok babu?"

"Sir, I can make coffee only like this and if u don't like that then I can bring u the machine one too, but for this week u have to endure these", so saying Ashok babu left.

Maan glanced at the cabin next door. By dint of his superb control over himself he had convinced himself that he wasn't affected in any way with Geet's absence, and now too he got up and pulled the shades over the glass partition so that he need not look into the empty cabin and that he could prove to himself how much in control of himself he really was.

The day progressed and even though Adi had all the notes but yet he had to be prompted by MSk again and again to bring in the files or drawings and even then there were delays and gradually Maan started getting angry and everyone started to avoid him.

"Why is it that even after I asked for the Faridabad project files, u are handing me just the files and not the drawings which go along with them?" He screamed at Sasha and Adi, "Do I need to spell out everything?"

"Mk, Geet hasn't given all the details it seems," Sasha tried to say''''

"No Maan sir, she has and I have forwarded her notes to both Tasha and Sasha both and to all the necessary people, but I personally am so sorry as I am unable to anticipate beforehand what things u might be requiring as Geet is always able to do, and I think this problem is being faced by everyone." Adi said rather in a rush so that Sasha couldn't stop him from saying so.

"Sasha show me the notes that Adi has forwarded to u". Maan asked. Reluctantly Sasha did so, shooting daggers at Adi by her eyes. Maan looked at the notes left by Geet, they were very detailed, and there wasn't any reason anyone couldn't follow them. He felt a strange feeling looking at the Xeroxed copy of Geet's handwritten notes.

"Where are the original notes?" he asked Adi. Adi seemed to hesitate'''. "Sir, they are in my cabin, do u need to see them? They are the same with just a few extra points that she had specifically written for me."

"Why Adi, has she left u a love note?"Sasha scornful asked.

"SASHA." Both Adi and Maan said at the same time'''''.both of them looked at each other.

"I don't like gossip", Maan said looking at both of them very sternly. "Yes, sir I know," Adi said, "but I need to clear up something to Sasha here," he turned towards Sasha and said, "there are few friendships that go beyond the realms of 'love' as u understand it. But I don't think that u can ever comprehend those so I am not going to explain it to u, but please beware that u don't say anything that will malign a good girl's name, she is my friend and it is my sincere request to u to respect that". Saying that he went out of the room to bring his note.

Maan felt a curious kind of kingship towards Adi, he looked a little severely towards Sasha and asked her to complete the blueprints for the Noida project.

Adi brought Geet's note but before giving it to MSk he said, "sir, she didn't know that u will be looking at this original copy that she had given to me, so if u don't like something that she has written, then please ignore it but don't think badly about her."

"Ok, give it to me and go, I will call u later on." Maan was puzzled at Adi's request and then he started to go through what Geet had written for Adi.

At first they seemed to be exactly as the one with Sasha, but then with every reference to a file, Geet had added small comments and advices,'''with the drawing for the portico she had written.."Adi sir, when u give this to Maan sir see that he has the blue file along with him as he had written some notes there for himself''''" then again at another spot,.. "Adi sir, don't let him change the Dmarco file as he will ask u to change it again as he is very much unsure of Mr. Demarco, and he doesn't like this client, he might even reject the offer''..". "Adi sir, give him all the blue prints for the Noida site before he goes for the meeting, I know he will want to nail them at one go'.." and so on'''''' and at one spot it was written ''''"Ask Ashok babu to give him readymade filter coffee from 'Starbucks' he will be able to have it better then coffee made by him or the instant ones from the machine."

Maan felt a strange clenching in his heart' "how did she know me so well? How can she understand me so well'''that too in such a short time'''''?"

Maan dialed Adi's extension number, "Adi, do u have Geet's number?"

"Yes sir, do u need something? Should I call her".

"No, just give me the number". When Adi came to give Maan the number he made Adi make a Xerox copy of Geet's notes. When Adi started to give the Xeroxed copy to Maan, he caught hold of the original notes and gave the Xeroxed ones to a surprised Adi.

"I am keeping these, I might need them, now go." Maan kept the notes under the glass top of his desk and taking the number started dialing'''''but before pressing the last number he stopped and quickly pressed the red button to stop the procedure. "What will I say? Should I apologize? What if she reads more into my words than what I mean?"

It was 2.30pm and Geet and her friends were coming out of their exam rooms'''.as was their custom they went to sit under the big tree with the tables and umbrellas all grouped under it. Everybody was talking at the same time, the paper had gone well.

"Geet lets go for lunch and then we will go to my place," Dips said. "Good idea, we haven't have had lunch together for such a long time, since the time Geet u had joined that firm."Maddy said. "Lets go, lets go." Almost everyone of their gang started to say'''all except Geet, she was wondering "what was happening in KC, has Maan sir hired his new assistant? He is sure to have finalized someone by now, he never waits for 24 hours for completing anything that he wants."

" Hey!!where are u? Geet??? Come back, what are u thinking?"Dips, gave her a shove.

"No, nothing, but sorry guys, I have to go'''..some work left to finish'''" then she saw the expression on all her friends' faces''''''.. "What? Really, I have so much work left to do before tomorrow's paper..".

"Are u telling the truth?" Kabir asked looking closely at her. "Now a days it seems like u never have time anymore for us, u are forever either in that office of urs or ur talking abt ur AB or whatever his name is, u used to free lance for ur Uncle too but u always had time for us, but now, it seems like we have taken a secondary place and u have new friends from ur office".

"Hey, guys not fair, I talk to u almost every day, and we see each other in our classes too'''.."

"Yeah? When was the last time u had any sort of decent conversation with us, our regular talks or caught a movie or eaten out? If I remember clearly not since u joined that company, tell me if I am wrong".

"Geet, Kabir is correct Yaar, u seem to have distanced yourself, u had said that this was just a temporary arrangement, so then why are u getting so involved? Are u like in love with someone there?" Maddy asked. Geet just stared''''..

"NO, NO, come on guys just becoz I didn't spend some time with u it doesn't mean that I have fallen for somebody''''it is just that I am really liking the job there it is very challenging and exactly the mark I intended to put on my profile''''come on let's eat, come I am going with u all''..i will prove to u all I haven't changed even a little bit."

Everybody was again happy and the focus shifted and they started to talk about something else, but Geet felt a little unease, Dips lagged behind everyone to walk with her''..she held Geet's hand and very quietly said, "U don't need to prove anything to us, but u should question urself and prove it to urself that u don't have any other interest in that place then gracing ur Cv with such a job experience. I think u might just surprise yourself, call me when u figure it out''''..now come along or they will start on u again."

Geet looked with wide startled eyes towards her childhood friend; Dips gave her a very sassy wink and pulled her into the melee of their talking friends.

Adi was in a fix, he was a man with simple needs, small things gave him much happiness and he loved to see his friends happy around him. He liked his boss very much and wanted him to be happy, he had been a witness to the time in MSK's life when his life had been torn apart with his parent's betrayal, their messy divorce, he had seen his boss harden up in front of his own eyes. He had always been a loner earlier but after that incident and also of that of Sameera (phoo!!!! Adi thought) MSK had become so distant from everybody and everything. He knew that his boss was an excellent person, but nobody seemed to either understand him or have the guts to get close to get under his tough exterior. But Geet was someone different in her own right. And Adi knew that under the non-caring attitude both of them were attracted to each other. He had a plan and to make it a success he needed Pinky's help. He explained what he wanted Pinky to do, at first she was apprehensive then she agreed to help him. But before that he had to make sure that he was right. He called up Geet with the pretext of some office stuff and then very casually asked her, "Geet did Maan sir call u?"

There was a very slight pause before Geet replied, "No, was he supposed to?"

"Strange, he had taken your number from me, then why didn't he call if he had himself asked for ur number'''... ok leave this topic''..Geet I have a very important call coming, can I ring u back after 10 or 15 minutes, don't engage ur phone, I have something important to ask u".

Adi called up Pinky and told her that their plan was on, they needed to make Geet and Maan sir talk before she came in the office on her scheduled day.

Maan had been on site of one of their company's constructions and he came into the office at 1pm. He was very tired as for the past 4 days he had been working nonstop around the clock. He went inside his cabin and sat with his eyes closed for some moments. The intercom rang, he pressed the button for audio and Pinky said, "Sir, Mr. Demarco is on the line, he wants to talk with u, shall I put him through?"

Maan closed his eyes, Geet had been correct, he didn't want to do business with this client, but he couldn't out rightly say no to the man as he had been a very close friend of his father.

"Pinky, put it n a conference mode and ask Adi to join in, I will need the figures on which Adi has been working on.". Pinky seemed to hesitate, "Sir, Adi sir is on another line, personal."

"So what, buzz him and tell him to stop his personal call and attend to this one''., or better still open the line for me I'll tell him myself." "Yes, sir", pinky smiled on her end.

The moment, Adi's line was connected with MSK's one, he opened his mouth to speak and then closed it, as Geet was talking at the other end. "So how was ur exam?"

"Good, I think I aced it, u know I keep telling everyone I am the best, yet they insist on taking exams and exams. What about u Adi sir? Everything fine out there? AB has been snapping ur heads as usual?"

Adi sent up a silent prayer to the heavens, "Yeah everything is fine here, we miss u Geet, come back fast, why don't u join from Monday itself, second half, u can if u want to, all ur exams and whatever else u had to attend to in the university will be finished by then".

"No Adi sir, I have promised my friends that I'll be spending some time with them on Monday, and anyway now I won't be needed in there much as Maan sir will be appointing a personal assistant, so whatever work I have I can always finish at my home too. Put on a habit, sir as u all will soon be relieved from enduring my company".

"Geet tell me frankly do u really want to go from here, don't we mean anything to u at all after the time u have spent here with us?"

"Wanting and getting are two different things in life Adi sir, I love working there and u and Pinky have become such good friends to me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"

"So, u r going away becoz of sir, he shouldn't have spoken to u thus''..i know..he should apologize".

"No no no''''''''.he was angry and so he was harsh, he isn't a bad person'.as for an apology it should come from the heart to mean something''''''anyway, I am thinking of applying to some different places as now I have KC's experience under my belt."

Maan switched off his part of the connection and sat quietly for some time, he then rang Pinky directly, "What happened Pinky when are u going to transfer Adi's line to me?" he barked with his usual tone.

Pinky was so confused, she was sure she had opened up the line as Adi sir had told her to and had been almost positive that Maan sir had heard Adi and Geet talking but now Sir was asking for the line to be connected, what had happened did the phone malfunction?

"Pinky are u sleeping?"

"No sir, right sir, iam connecting you right now". The moment Maan could again hear Adi's voice he plowed ahead, "Adi, I need to talk to u, I can't find the revised sheets of the Surat construction, where are they?"

Adi and Geet both stopped talking at once. "Sir, which revised sheets Sir", Adi started to go through the notes which he always kept near his hand, Geet could hear the rustle of papers on her end, she so wanted to tell Adi sir which papers Maan sir was reffering to but after hearing Maan sir's voice after such a long time, she hesitated.

"Adi," MsK prompted, "don't u know where they are?"

"Nooo, no sir, I cant seem to find them, Geet can u tell me where are the papers Maan sir is asking for''."

"Geet? where is she?" Maan asked.

"Helloo sir, how are u sir?"

"Geet , good what are u doing now, ur exams are finished?"

"Yes sir, but I do have a small'''''."

"Do me a favour, can u come right now, I need the papers urgently and I cant seem to find them''''..do u need a pick up?"

"No sir, its ok, I have my Scooty, I'll be there in half an hour". So saying Geet cut the connection and so did Maan. Adi was left with a dry phone without anyone on either end. He blankly stared at the phone for sometime and then gave a laugh before putting it down.

Geet rushed from her home, as she was tying her helmet, her aunt came out, "puttarji, why are u going out now? It is almost 3o'clock and u said ur not going out today?"

"Maan sir had called and he needs my help". "but u are on leave right? so why this rush? Say no, u can u know that he doesn't own u".

"But this is important to him, bye I will explain when I come in".

"So what, why does it matter to u?"

Her aunt's words made her put on her brakes, "Why am I rushing in such a manner? Just becoz Maan sir has asked me to do something for him? Why does it matter so much to me? Why am I so happy after almost a week of being so sad? Didn't I decide that from now on I am not doing any other work except the one for which i had joined his firm, then why am I rushing so'''''.why do I feel so happy? Was Dips correct? Do I ''''''''''..? No no no no'..this is too huge'..darn u Dips for putting this thought into my mind'''''..i had better hurry otherwise Akbar Badshah will kill me''''''"

Maan was talking to Sasha and Adi who were showing him some office matters when he saw Geet walking into the reception area. A wonderful sense of peace seemed to fill him up at the mere sight of Geet. "Ok, both of u, we will go through these tomorrow, I am waiting for an important call now, u all go back to ur cabins." Both Sasha and Adi left, Sasha didn't notice Geet but Adi did, ("So this is why he made us leave in a hurry" he thought) and he detoured towards the reception area where she was talking to Pinky.

"Helloo Geet, so nice to see u, we really missed u, no one can handle Maan sir like u do u know."

"Really, why do u say so?" Geet was very pleased to hear Adi say that, her eyes were going again and again towards Maan's cabin but she couldn't find a polite way to detach herself from Pinky.

"Adi sir , did u find the file sir was asking about?"

"No, go, he must be waiting for it, he was in such a hurry to get it, u go and see to it".

Geet walked the short distance from there to Maan's cabin and took a breadth before knocking, she entered and as soon as she saw Maan she felt a strange kind of shyness invade her. Her heart started to thud so loudly that it seemed to be trying to beat its way out of her chest. Maan was looking at some blue prints and seemed to be engrossed in those, she could just stand there and look at him with new eyes as if she was looking at him for the first time, did he always have such long lashes''..such a perfect bow for his lips, even his nose seemed to be specifically designed to give him this perfect face'''

"Have I grown two heads?" Maan asked looking at her.

Geet jumped she had been so completely lost in her thoughts that she hadn't noticed Maan looking back at her , watching her, watching him. Geet felt her cheeks go red with embarrassment.
