Continued from here:

Hearing Maan's car enter the drive way, Geet hurried down to open the door. Just as she swung the door open, she saw Maan standing before her with a long package in his hand. Geet gave him a stern look and without uttering a word, she turned around and walked back into the house. Maan wasn't expecting a warm reception but he did not anticipate it to be so cold, either. Clearly she had still not gotten over her anger and disappointment over his attitude that morning.

"Geet...." Maan called out to her hesitatingly, trying to break the ice. "There's something I need to give to you."

When she turned around, he extended his hand to give her the package he held in it.

Refusing to accept it, she spat out in anger, "What's this? Another one of your many presents? Are you are not done with treating me as your charity case?"

Maan was surprised by her allegation. "Charity case? What makes you think I consider you as one?"

Picking up the bank passbook which lay on the nearby table she flipped to the page which had the entry of Rs.1,60,000. She pointed to the figure and asked, "What is the meaning of this, then?"

Leaving the package on the table, Maan took the passbook from her hand and after examining the entry, he looked at her quizzically, wondering what her problem was with it.

"Why have you given me so much money? I had only asked you to credit Rs.16,000 in my account. Did you add another zero by mistake?"

Maan smiled and shook his head. "No, I knew how much I was giving you."

"Oh! So you wanted to impress me with your magnanimity? But I don't want your charity, thank you." she said.

"Who said this money was for you? It is for the cause you mentioned," he explained.

It was Geet's turn to be surprised.

"So you believed me?"

"Why not? I've never had any reason to disbelieve you."

"Do you even know what cause it is for?"

"I don't need to know. If you are associated with it, it must be a good cause," he said with conviction.

Geet suddenly felt ashamed at herself for questioning his motive. Having the wind taken out of her sail, she didn't know what to say. She was about to apologise for her rude behaviour when it struck her how she was treated that morning.

She stiffened and asked him indignantly, "If you trust me so much, why did you force me to quit my job? Am I needed only in your personal life but not in your professional life? Do you want me to be financially dependent on you? Could you not handle having a smart wife around you?"

Although Maan knew she was upset with him, he was taken aback by the intensity of her questions, which showed him how much he had hurt her pride. He placed both his hands on her shoulders and looking deeply into her eyes, he asked softly, "Do you really think I want you to be dependent on me? Have I not always urged you to stand up for yourself? Why would I feel threatened by your intelligence? If anything, I feel proud of it."

Geet looked back at him in confusion. She had to admit that he had always encouraged her and supported her. But then why did he act so strangely that morning?

Maan led her to the nearby sofa and seating her on it, he sat next to her. He dragged her hands to his lap and clutching them tightly, he recounted his plan to trap the person who was trying to malign her at the office. He told her how he caught Sasha enumerating all her evil deeds to Tasha and gloating over her victory in getting rid of Geet. He described the look on her face when she was made aware that he had heard every single word she uttered. Geet broke into laughter, imagining Sasha's chagrin at realising that her game was up.

Struck by a thought she stopped laughing and asked him with concern, "What about the Rs.50 crore loss we have suffered in that project and the legal wrangle we have got ourselves into?"

Her use of 'we' to refer to the company did not escape Maan's attention. He chuckled and said, "Don't worry. That was a fictitious project and equally fictitious loss I conjured up to frame you and make you submit your resignation."

"You could have let me into your plan instead of forcing me to quit," she said, pouting her lips.

"What??? And miss out on the fun of seeing your pretty face turn red in anger and frustration?"

Geet abruptly turned her head away from him so that he does not see the tears stinging her eyes.

Maan held her chin and turned her face back to him.

"Hey, come on, Geet. I was only joking. Do you really believe that I would enjoy seeing you in pain? It tore me apart to see you so upset but then I could not reveal my plan. You would not have been able to convince Sasha that you were really quitting, unless you believed it yourself. You are so transparent that your face immediately reflects your thoughts."

Geet quickly lowered her eyes. Maan continued, "There is no need to feel embarrassed about it. In fact that is your beauty, Geet. You are so pure that you cannot mask your feelings. As to losing your job, why are you so upset over it? After all you cannot be a mere secretary in a company which you will soon be the co-owner of, can you?"

"Co-owner?" Geet looked at Maan in confusion.

Maan nodded his head and said that he was making her the co-owner of his entire stake in the Khurana Constructions and has already intimated the board about it.

"After our wedding and honeymoon, you will join me as a management trainee, and learn all aspects of the business so that you can ably assist me in running it. Even as a secretary you were doing much more than what was required of a normal secretary. I could have given you a more elevated post but then I didn't want people to think that I was doing you some special favours because of our relationship. I'm sure you would prove your worth in whatever you do, Geet. I am proud of you."

Geet blushed hearing this and said she will definitely give it her best shot.

"So now that we have cleared up the air, will you accept this?" asked Maan picking up the package from the table.

"Maan, I cannot accept anymore gifts from you. You have already given me far too much." Geet raised her hand to push away the package.

"Who said this is a gift? I am merely returning to you what is yours."

Geet looked at him curiously. "What is mine? What is it?"

"Why don't you open it and see for yourself?"

Geet opened the package which contained some documents and a large velvet box. Putting down the box, she skimmed through the papers and her eyes widened. It was the transfer deed of her property in Hoshiarpur. Maan had transferred it back to her name.

"We'll visit Amritsar after the wedding and get it reregistered in your name," he said.

"But I don't want it," Geet told him but he shook his head.

"No, Geet. It is rightfully yours and should belong to you."

Laying the document on the table, Geet picked up the box and opened it. Seeing the contents, her jaw dropped. "My jewellery collection! Where did you get these?" she asked in surprise.

Maan explained to her how he found a receipt of a jewellery store inside Dev's passport and going through it, he realised it related to the sale of Geet's jewellery collection. He then bought back the jewels because he felt that they may hold sentimental value to her.

"I'm afraid a couple of your rings may be missing in that collection. They have been sold I believe. I'll get you new ones, instead."

Geet shook her head, "No. I don't want any more jewellery. I am not too fond of jewels, in any case. But you are right. This collection does hold a lot of sentimental value to me because it belonged to my great grandmother and has been passed down the generations. I don't know how to thank you for this."

Maan looked at her lovingly and said, "You can thank me by adorning all these ornaments on our wedding day."

Geet nodded her head shyly and leaned against his chest as he wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug.
