'Dolly' who brings in the lolly
The world of entertainment has been overtaken by the Dolly Bindra (read: wicked witch) syndrome. And films and television are cashing in on it...

They love to scheme, plot, fake vulnerability, steal the good girls' husbands and be motor-mouths. In short, be a b*tch and turn all feminine niceties around, especially when it comes to grabbing eyeballs.
Actor Shilpa Shetty fell prey to racist comments from (late) Jade Goody, who in turn gained the maximum publicity. Drama queens Rakhi Sawant, Kashmera Shah and Sambhavna Seth turned out to be the crowd-pullers for a reality show they participated in. Actor Priyanka Chopra's portrayal of a super-sexy predatory businesswoman act in Aitraaz got her innumerable awards and accolades. Even in Hollywood, the versatile Meryl Streep played the terror editor Miranda in The Devil Wears Prada. Where would the entertainment world be without its wicked witches?!
And the latest to join the brigade is actor Dolly Bindra on a reality show. Crass behaviour and cuss words being her signature.
"People love me for being frank and outspoken. There are some who believe I behave like this for publicity, but the truth is that this is just the way I am," said Dolly earlier. Actor Arbaaz Khan is of the view that reality shows let people show their true colours. "I like Dolly Bindra because she isn't fake. She is proud of what she is. The best part about reality shows is that the real side to people comes out on television."
Nikhil Madhok, VP Marketing and Communications of a TV channel, says in any reality show it is good to have a mix of people. "For any show to do well there has to be a good mix of brash, aggressive, calm and composed. Only having miscreants will lead to cacophony, not viewership. I don't think it is a growing trend to cash in on miscreants because the audience watches them only if it's interesting and two people just arguing all the time is not the best entertainment."
