And the reason why her Rishta broke was her parents died the day of the wedding...and the Groom's family considered her negative for them.

from the various hints thrown out in the show i have pieced together a possible scenario. nandini herself is totally unaware of what has happened, but her sister and brother-in-law know about it.
i think that, long ago, she was abducted and knocked unconscious, after which someone raped her. she probably went into a coma for a while. being unconscious she knew nothing about what had happened to her. all she remembered later-- as she innocently said in a recent episode-- was that she had "fallen ill", because of which her sister withdrew her from college.
this is a major incident in the young woman's life, but she herself is totally unaware of it. her innocent look is genuine, not faked. her brother-in-law has hushed it up.
i think it's also possible that the culprit's identity is unknown. not even pallavi and govind know who it is. maybe govind suspects his own brother krishna of having a hand in it. that is the reason behind his hostility to his brother. whenever nandini speaks to krishna, govind doesn't like it. but from krishna's open, friendly demeanour, it seems that he has been wrongly suspected [of course, he is unaware of the fact that govind doubts him]. the real criminal is someone else.

It was revealed that Govind does not like Krushna because he lives with his in laws. I don't think Krushna had anything negative to do with nandini's past.

very interesting idea

The rape thing could be true because i think i read somewhere where they were saying that Neena Gupta's character is the going to support her daughter in law against the whole family. Maybe when they find out they want to kick her out of the house or if they find out before the marriage they do not want the marriage to happen and Neena Gupta is the only one that will support her.

Bitten, Thanks so much for this information. I don't know Tamil and have'nt seen that serial. I borrowed elements from different potboiler movies, paperback thrillers and past tv serials to cook up this scenario. A lucky guess, it seems. But I think this is the way most serial writers also construct their plots-- by taking scraps from older stories and giving them twists. After following Balaji Teleserials for a few years, even viewers can get adept at this game. Most TV shows recycle old plotlines with small changes.
