Bollywood movies with a social message

😊 It is good to see Bollywood films address a issue or problem that affects people in daily living. Guzaarish is a perfect example. It is a inspiring story of someone who does not give up on their life at all. Instead, it shows someone that you can still fight for your life and enjoy what you have. Other films with a social message have been Paa, Taare Zameen Par, Peepli Live, Rakta Charitra, Provoked, Heaven on Earth, etc.
I think it is good to see a film once in a while that teaches you something important. Sure, everyone goes to a movie for entertainment, but it is important to educate yourself on issues affecting people in daily life.
What is your favorite film with a social message? More Bollywood films have to be made on this topic! 🥱

As long as the message is given subtly, I am okay with it. In fact, if the message is something close to my heart, then I might like the movie. However, when it crosses the line into preaching, then that's a huge turn-off for me. Personally, I can't stand movies where they beat your head with a message and try to shove it down your throat, as though you have to accept it no matter what. I prefer movies that are more neutral in nature and leave room for personal interpretations.

Besides, a good message/concept/intention doesn't automatically guarantee a great movie. The presentation and execution of that idea is just as, if not more, important.

With regards to your topic, I liked Tare Zameen Par despite all its flaws. I also found Black quite moving, though calling it the next best thing since sliced bread will be stretching things a bit too far IMHO.

I liked Swades because it gave a very important message that those who can make a difference, should. We as indians always blame the system and government for everything, but the truth is, if we want a change, we must also change ourselves. We are also quite lazy and always leave everything to be done by someone else or just leave it to God...but swades showed us that if we had to get things done, we had to do them ourselves (The Electricity sequence)...it was a message, beautifully portrayed. Moreover, the sequence where SRK argues with the village panchayat was also spot on because we as indians also believe that just because we are conservative and God fearing, our beliefs are much better than those in western countries. This is completely WRONG thinking and im glad ashutosh pointed that out in this movie.

Yes, do you think the film had unnecessary songs? I think the film could have been songless! 😊
