Speaking to Mahesh Bhatt is like watching an unedited entertaining, creative and mindboggling film, made by a master craftsman!
The man doesn't believe in mincing his words, or skirting the topics, which are scalding hot. The firebrand filmmaker, who has "just returned from Paris after attending a convention of media and entertainment representatives," will soon be "flying to Goa to endorse the cause of Alcoholic Anonymous as its brand ambassador." Ahead of his visit to the city, NT catches up with the maverick filmmaker, as he gets vocal on films, economics and more...
In Nagpur, you are going to speak about the issues ailing the minorities. But, what is the biggest problem that India needs to combat?
You can't separate the problems of a minority from that of the country. Recently, Obama praised India wholeheartedly. But, the fact remains that the condition of minorities in India is pathetic! And we need to be brutally honest about such things. Candid conversation is the need of the hour, once that is done, half the problems will be solved!
Your son Rahul made some bindaas statements after being ousted from the ongoing reality show...
I have come back from Paris a couple of days back, so I don't know exactly what he has said. I think, he behaved with immense dignity in the show, and it's important that he stays away from the luring traps laid by the media and doesn't give some headline-grabbing statements against other contestants!
Who's your fave inmate in the celebrity house? And who's the one who irritates you the most?
I watched the reality show as long as my son was in the house. And I must say that I really adore this giant called Khali. Honestly speaking, more than anyone else, it was Rahul who irritated me the most at times. His studied silence really bugged me! I feel he shouldn't have buried his real emotions behind the veil of silence!
Are you ready to launch Rahul on 70 mm screen after his stint in the reality show?
We did offer him Kalyug, but he didn't want that as his launch film. He was very keen to play a suicide bomber in which he was to portray a UK-based lad who embraces militancy. But, we abandoned the film because it didn't seem like a very saleable product. We will cast him in a role, which is mutually beneficial, but right now, there's nothing in the pipeline.
Tell us something about Murder 2, which is supposed to be based on Nithari killings...
Nithari is too dark and too grim for any entertainment. So, my film is not based on Nithari, but yes, it explores the phenomenon called mass murderer, and it is very fast paced.
