Chapter 51: The Sweetest Things
Maya sat in a car parked across the street from the hotel pretending to read the morning paper while she kept one eye on the parking garage. "Meher can you hear me?" Maya asked checking her Bluetooth headset.
"Loud and clear," Meher replied adjusting her Bluetooth earbud. She was pacing back and forth in front of the hotel pretending to be waiting for someone while drinking a cup of coffee. "This Bluetooth idea you had was great."
"Thanks," she said. "By the way who's idea was it to wake up at 5am?"
"That would be Preet's. Sorry, about that. He got super excited," Meher apologized.
"I gave Harman an earful when he called me this morning," Maya said.
"Sorry," Meher repeated.
"You did nothing wrong...stop saying sorry. I will say I'm willing to forgive Preet because this morning's breakfast was fantastic. I am definitely going to be making that my breakfast place from now on. The food wasn't greasy and it was very affordable," Maya said.
"I know I love that place. We only found it a couple of weeks ago," Meher said.
"That double date last week was a lot of fun. We need to do it again sometime," Maya suggested.
"Sure thing," Meher replied.
"Oh, sorry Meher...I have an incoming call I think they are ready," Maya announced. She switched her call over and greeted, "Hello?"
"Hey Maya, it's me Preet. Everything's set over here. How are you girls doing?" Preet asked.
"We're ready," Maya replied.
"Good. Harman is on his way," Preet said and then hung up the phone. He looked at his brother and gave the thumbs up sign. "Ready?"
"As ready as I will ever be. You really think he won't recognize me?" Harman asked as he inspected himself in the mirror. He patted down the fake beard he was wearing and adjusted his glasses.
"You'll do fine," Preet encouraged. "Just remember to keep talking in that voice we practice."
"Okay," Harman replied making his voice a few octaves lower than his normal tone. He exited the restroom and made his way to the elevator. A few minutes later he was standing in front of room 4202. He knocked on the door and announced, "Stanley's Lock Company." He stood there for a few minutes wondering if it was possible that Prashant had left his room for the day. But he knew they had been keeping a watchful eye on him and carefully planned everything out. Prashant had to be in his room. To his relief the door slowly cracked open; the chain still hooked. He saw Prashant still in pajamas staring out at him. "Stanely's Lock Company. The hotel should have left a note or message about us coming in to check the locks for the safes. Sorry, for disturbing you," Harman said.
Prashant closed the door and unhooked the chain before letting Harman walk into the room. "I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth."
"Oh, sorry," Harman replied. "So if there anything you need to take out of the safe you should do so now."
Prashant nodded and went to get his briefcase. He flipped it open and then went to the safe to take his things out. Harman stood off to the side trying to give him some privacy but keep a watchful eye on what he was doing. "It's all clear now. How long will this take?"
"Oh, it shouldn't take too long. Fifteen minutes or so. If you want you can leave. We have strict policies...nothing is going to be taken away you can rest assure," Harman replied.
Prashant smiled and closed his briefcase and carried it with him into the bathroom. A few minutes later he emerged wearing his business casual outfit and the briefcase tightly in his hand. "Have a good day," Prashant simply stated and left the room.
Harman smiled and then waited a few seconds before texting his contact, "Bowser has left the building."
Preet stared down at his cell phone and smirked at the text message. He was standing next to Lucas at the concierge desk pretending to be shadowing him and learning his work. He grinned as he saw Prashant come walking into the lobby carrying his briefcase. "Good Morning Mr. Chabaria," Preet enthusiastically greeted.
Prashant stopped in mid stride and turned toward the desk. "Preet, what are you doing here?"
"Oh, since PB is on his business trip Dad wanted me to come in and help out," Preet explained. "Where are you going so early in the morning?"
"A business meeting," Prashant smiled.
Preet continued to chit-chat with him trying to keep him occupied while he sent a quick text to Meher and Maya that they had just entered phase two of the plan. "It's been good talking to you. Maybe later we can go hang out at the hotel lounge," Preet said.
Prashant nodded and then walked out of the revolving doors of the hotel. The minute he stepped out he felt someone bumped into him. He looked at the person in surprise. "Meher?"
"Oh, good I was just on my way to find you. Come on," she said cheerily and began dragging him down the street.
"Where are we going?" Prashant asked.
"Um, Papa wanted me to help you buy some things for Heer Didi," Meher replied.
"Oh, well, I have to drop some things off first. Can we meet later?" Prashant asked.
"Drop some things off? It won't take long right? Why don't I come with you and then we can go together to the mall and go shopping," Meher said and hooked her arms around his. Prashant was surprised by her sudden affection. "You're going to be my Juji soon. You aren't being a very good Juji if you don't take me to the mall. Besides we are buying things for Heer Didi...you're her fiance shouldn't you be buying some gifts for her. Everyone's preparing for the wedding and everything...you haven't even thought of buying her a gift?"
"Um, no...I mean I have thought of some things but I wasn't quite sure if she would like them or not," Prashant replied.
"See that's what you have me for," Meher beamed.
"Well, okay then we should probably take the car then," Prashant said attempting to head towards the parking garage.
"Wait, what about breakfast?" Meher asked. "You haven't had breakfast yet...let's go to the corner coffee shop and get you something to eat." And before Prashant could say anything she dragged him to the cross walk and walked him across the street.
Maya snickered to herself at seeing Meher's success. She then sent a quick message to her contact. "Beat Level 3 Super Mario World."
"Seriously, who came up with these crazy code words?" Kunal asked as looked at the text message he just received.
"Preet, who else?" Sang replied. "So, they're coming right?"
Kunal nodded and smirked, "It's time to take this monkey out."
"You mean Bowser," Sang joked.
"Right, we just need to eat a magic mushroom like Mario and then jump on him three times to get rid of him," Kunal replied sarcastically.
"They're here," Sang warned. "Let's get into position."
Heer stared at the piece of clothing dangling in front of eyes with skepticism. "You want help with this?" Prem nodded his head up and down rather childishly. "Prem, it's a Polo shirt...you can definitely put this on without any problems. Are you trying to make me your dress slave or something?" she asked with an exasperated tone.
"Dress slave? No...but it's kind of fun when you dress me," Prem replied mischievously pulling her closer. "What other way to get up close and personal without stepping beyond our boundaries?"
"So, are you saying if I dress you...you'll dress me too?" Heer ask. Prem grinned widely at this new prospect that he hadn't thought of. "In your dreams," she replied mockingly. "Stop playing around...you're wasting time." She tried removing herself from his hold but he stubbornly held on. "Preeem..."
"Heeeer..." he jokingly mimicked. Heer stared at him not amused. He then smirked as he inched his face closer, "Give me a kiss and I'll let you go." She frowned a little but gave him a quick peck on the lips. "Okay, now let me go." Prem furrowed his eyebrows, "You call that a kiss?"
Heer moped, "Prem, I wanna go out."
"And we will go out," he replied as he titled his head trying to capture her lips. "Just one..." Heer playfully leaned in and out trying to avoid his kiss. "Don't be cruel," Prem whined. Heer gave a slight smirk and seized his lips into a seductively soft kiss. Prem immediately loosened; his senses reeling as she took over. She gradually pulled away leaving Prem breathlessly wanting more. Heer grinned mischievously as she teasingly ran her finger along his jaw line, "Now go and change if you want any more...later tonight..." Prem stared at her slacked jawed as she sauntered away from him. Heer couldn't help but giggle at this new found power she had over him. "Prem..." she called from the doorway making sure he was paying attention.
"I'm coming," Prem said as he quickly changed into his Polo shirt. "I'm coming."

Prashant waited in line to order himself some food and a coffee while Meher went to find a table. Sang winked at her in his black hoodie as he left the table he was sitting at so she could sit down. She sat in the chair facing away from the door way. She turned to see Prashant clutching onto his briefcase as if it was the most important thing in the world to him. She made a silent prayer in her head that whatever he was guarding in that briefcase would be the key to unlocking the truth to his activities and his extraction from the family. A few minutes later Prashant came and sat down at the table.
"So, did you have a good sleep last night?" Meher asked.
"Yes, the hotel beds are quite comfortable," Prashant replied.
It wasn't long before a waitress came and delivered Prashant's breakfast and coffee. Meher proceeded to occupy his time idly talking about random things so he wouldn't get an idea of what she was really up to. Prashant went along with the conversation as he ate his breakfast sandwich. Their conversation was interrupted when they heard a sudden loud commotion at the front of the coffee shop. Someone had bumped into a waitress spilling coffee all over the place. Everyone in the store turned their heads to see what was going on. At that moment someone sitting behind Prashant was slowly switching out his briefcase with an exact replicate. "Where are you going?" Meher said in alarm as she saw Prashant stand up from the table.
"I'm going to go get a to go cup," Prashant simply stated. "Why? You want something to drink?"
"Sure," Meher replied trying to make sure Prashant kept facing towards her direction. "A latte please." Prashant smiled and then walked away to place her a order. She sighed in relief and glanced towards the table in front her; her eyes lingering towards the floor to see that the briefcase had been exchanged properly.
Kunal could feel his heart beating like crazy as he took Prashant's briefcase and stared at the combination lock. He tired to open the it first without entering a code and to his pleasant surprise it opened. Just as he was about to take the contents out he heard to his horror Meher speaking really loudly. He quickly put the briefcase down and switched them back.
"Wow, that was fast," Meher said taking the coffee from him.
Prashant smiled, "Yeah the waitress was nice I just paid her directly without having to get in line again." He walked passed Meher and reached down to pickup his briefcase. "So shall we?" Meher smiled and followed him out the coffee shop feeling inwardly defeated.
Kunal quickly sent a text message out, "Koopalings defeated Mario. Need Yoshi!"
"Dude, what happened?" Sang whispered as he slid into the seat in front of Kunal.
"That was crummy luck," Kunal said.
"So I got coffee spilled all over me for nothing then?" Sang sadly replied.
"It's up to Maya now," Kunal said.
*************************************************************
Maya groaned when she read the text message that Kunal had sent out. "Great, how am I supposed to get that briefcase away from him?" She didn't have much time to think as she saw Prashant and Meher go walking into the garage. She sent a quick text message back to Kunal, "Mario Go Kart Race?" She smiled when she saw his confirmation reply. "For sure."
A few minutes later Maya was carefully navigating the streets wondering where Prashant was going. To her surprise he parked on the side of the street a few blocks down from the hotel and entered a bank. Maya had no choice but to drive pass the bank and make a u-turn to get back around. "What are we suppose to do now?" Maya replied as she answered her phone through her Bluetooth.
"I don't know but at least we know he's got a safety deposit box in the bank," Meher replied.
"I seriously hope Preet doesn't decide to hold up the bank," Maya said.
"No way...there is no way any of us would go for that suggestion. I don't know what to do," Meher said.
"Well, just stick to the plan and keep him occupied. The rest of us will think of something," Maya said. "Good luck."
Meher sighed as she heard the phone hang up. She did another silent prayer even though the first one didn't work out the way she had wanted. "Please, let us figure something out. This is so unfair. If I give up sweets for a month...would that be enough? I promise no sweets for a month...let Heer Didi get out of this engagement."
Heer smiled as she comfortably snaked her arm around Prem's arm and leaned her head on his shoulder while they rode the subway. "What happened to no P.D.A?" Prem smirked.
"We're in New York where no one knows us and it's not like we're making out. I'm just resting my head on your shoulder," Heer replied.
"It has been nice hasn't it...not having to worry about anything," Prem said. "Let's just not go back."
Heer pushed him slightly, "You know we can't do that...as much as I want to."
"I guess it was a good thing that Will couldn't come," Prem said. "Otherwise we'd never be able to share a bed together."
"Or do other things," Heer softly whisper causing Prem to snicker.
"You amaze me sometimes," he said. Heer just smiled at his comment and snuggled closer to him. "Oh, this is our stop. Come on." Prem led her out of the subway car holding tightly onto her hand and ascended the stairs to the streets above.
Rockefeller Center was crowded as usual; its streets and sidewalks packed with tourists, a few locals, and some workers from the surrounding businesses. They cheerily explored the different clothing shops and other specialty stores that surrounded the area. They spent their time enjoying the freedom of being able to be together without having to think twice about what they were doing. They stepped into one of the many sandwich shops around the plaza to grab a quick bite to eat.
"Prem," Heer said motioning with her hands, "You got a little mustard on the side."
"Did I get it?" he asked as he wiped his face with a napkin.
Heer giggled, "No," and reached over to wipe it for him.
"Thanks," Prem said smiling brightly. "So, where to next?"
"Doesn't really matter...do you want to go up to the top of the Rockefeller building?" Heer asked.
"Sounds good...tell you the truth I've never been up there," Prem replied.
"You know I just realized we don't have a camera," Heer said frowning a bit.
"I didn't even think to pack one...you know business trip and all," Prem said. "But we have our camera phones. We can at least take a couple pictures with them." He took a quick snap shot of Heer sitting at the table they were sitting at. Prem handed the phone over to her so she could take a picture of him as well.
"Let's try taking one together," Heer suggested as she scooted next to Prem. "I don't think my arms are long enough." Prem took the phone from her and extended his arm around her shoulder to take the shot. They both peered into the phone and smiled at the result. It was a nice intimate photo of them with their heads close together. "Not bad," Heer praised. They took a few more pictures having fun doing various poses from the silly with their tongues sticking out to more couple like ones with Heer lying her head on Prem's shoulder.
"We better get going if we want to be able to go up the Rockefeller building," Prem said. They threw their trash away and went hand and hand to go purchase tickets. It was going to be a good hour before they would be able to go. So, they decided to make use of their time by taking pictures at certain scenic locations around Rockefeller Plaza.
Prem carefully backed away and waited patiently for a small crowd of children to pass before trying to take a photo of Heer. "Excuse me, would you like to be included in the picture?" a passerby asked. Prem looked at him in surprise. "Yea, that would be great. Thanks."
"Sure, no problem. It can be hard sometimes when it's just the two of you. You have all these separate pictures," the man replied. "So just press this button here right?" Prem nodded and then went to stand by Heer. The man smiled and took their picture for them. "Come on you guys can do better than that...have a little fun," he said as he inspected the photo. "One more...make it fun..." Prem and Heer looked at each other a bit surprised by the sudden photo shoot command. "I'm not taking another picture until you do something," the man teased. Heer bit her lower lip and hugged Prem from the side and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Prem's eyes widen in surprise by her sudden impulsive action. "That's more like it," the man replied as he handed the phone back to Prem. "That one turned out really nice. By the way I hope you don't mind but could you take a pic of me and my wife?"
"Of course," Prem replied. The man motioned for his wife who had been standing off to the side to come over. Prem smiled as he took a few shots for them as they did a couple of poses. The couple thanked them and then went on their way.
"They were really sweet," Heer said.
"They were," Prem replied and scrolled through his phone to look at the most recent ones they took. "Getting bolder aren't you? What happened to my shy Heer?" he teased as he looked at the photo with Heer kissing his cheek.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Heer replied. "He told us to do something different."
"So you'll listen to a complete stranger and not me?" Prem joked as he put his arm around her shoulder.
"You would have me making out with you," Heer said.
"Hey, I'm not that bad," Prem defended.
"So you say," Heer teased. "Then why were you trying to get me into the same dressing room?"
"I needed help," Prem replied showing his cast. "I'd rather have you help me instead of some strange store clerk guy." Heer rolled her eyes while Prem just grinned and planted an affectionate kiss on her head. "Let's head back to the building and hang around there until its time. We have fifteen more minutes." Heer nodded and held his hand sticking close to his side.

Preet scratched the back of his head not sure what to do as the rest of the gang sat with him in one of the office meeting rooms. "I can't believe it didn't work!" Preet said in disappointment.
"Everything was going fine," Kunal replied. "But I guess in the end we just didn't have the luck that we need."
"At least we know he's keeping his stuff at the bank just a few blocks from here," Maya replied.
"You're not suggesting to go rob the place are you?" Harman asked.
Maya frowned at his ridiculous suggestion. "I love your family and all and I can do most things but I'm sorry I can't go to jail for this...especially when we don't know what he has."
"Relax, we aren't going to rob the place," Preet said.
"The only thing you can do is to watch the place," Sang replied. "He's obviously storing things there. He may put whatever he had in the safety deposit box back into that safe we fixed. And he's bound to have another meeting with Barney again...if we can catch Barney we're golden."
"I like your thinking Sang," Preet smiled.
"By the way Sang where did you get that contraption for the safe?" Harman asked.
Sang held his hand up, "The less you know the better. Let's just say I have a black sheep uncle who has some um, interesting friends."
"The Korean mafia?" Preet inquired.
"Mafia? I don't know about no mafia," Sang replied. "If my family knew I was talking that uncle I would be beaten black and blue. So what about the mafia?"
"We don't know anything," the gang answered sarcastically.
Sang smiled, "Exactly."
"So, should we call Prem?" Kunal asked.
"Let's not bother him. He's on a romantic getaway for two," Preet joked. "Let's not ruin it for them."
Prem and Heer followed the boardwalk as directed by the driver searching for the yacht named the Queen Anne. The Stevensons had been nice enough to get a driver to come and pick them up from the hotel and bring them to the harbor. They were wearing their casual dress attire as the clients insisted that tonight's dinner was just for fun.
"Hello there!" Mr. Stevenson waved animatedly. "Just threw the tuna steaks on the grill."
"Come on board," Mrs. Stevenson welcomed.
"It's nice to be out of the tuxes and in shorts, right?" Mr. Stevenson said giving a firm handshake to Prem.
"Thank you for inviting us," Prem replied with a smile.
"It was great talking to you two last night. My daughter and her husband along with their five year old girl will be joining us tonight...hope you don't mind they surprised us by flying in this morning," Mr. Stevenson said.
"Of course not, sir. They're family. I just hope we aren't intruding," Prem said.
"No, no," Mr. Stevenson replied. "There are drinks in the cooler over there and some cheese and crackers on the table. Help yourselves while I get dinner ready...grilled tuna steaks, grilled vegetables, mashed red potatoes, and Marie's famous apple crumb with vanilla ice cream."
"Sounds delicious," Prem said and then went over to where Mrs. Stevenson and Heer were talking.
A few minutes later Mr. Stevenson's daughter arrived with her family and the little dinner party was in full swing. Heer stood at the front of the boat watching the colors of the clouds change as the last few rays of the setting sun vanished from view. She smiled as she felt the familiar presence of Prem's steps walking towards her. He stood next to her not saying a word and admired the sky above them. He then leaned on the railing with his hands and took a deep breath letting the salty ocean breeze fill his senses. Heer coyly looked to the side when she felt his left pinky gently brush against her hand. Prem grinned at her reaction and then covered her hand with his. He savored the softness of her skin and the delicate form of her hand molding to his hold. He felt an unknown excitement at committing such an illicit act while the clients were only a few feet away. Interoffice relationships at the hotel weren't exactly frowned upon but discretion was advised and considering the very complex nature of their relationship it wasn't right for them to be showing any outward public displays of affection during business settings or during casual client interactions. Prem couldn't help himself as the hunger to act inappropriately over took him and he moved closer to see if he could steal a kiss. Just as he was about to lean towards Heer, Prem felt a light tug on his khaki cargo shorts. He looked down to his right and saw the smiling face of the Stevenson's granddaughter, Natalie. "Watcha doing?" she innocently asked.
"Um, nothing," Prem replied nervously. Heer immediately moved her hand away from the railing and pretended like she no idea what was going on.
"My Mommy and Daddy told me it's not good to lie," Natalie said.
"That's right it's not good to lie," Prem replied.
"Then why are you lying?" Natalie asked.
Heer covered her mouth trying to contain her laughter as she watched Prem get grilled by a five year old. Prem shot her an annoyed look. "I'm not lying," Prem said sweetly to Natalie. "We were just talking."
"I didn't hear anything," Natalie reflected. "How can you talk without moving your mouth?"
"Um, well, you see...sometimes you can say things without having to use words. Like your Mommy knows when you rub your eyes and yawn you are tired and want to go to sleep," Prem explained.
"Daddy usually picks me up and lets me sleep on his shoulder until we get home but when I'm at home they send me to my room and tuck me in," Natalie replied.
"That's right," Prem said with a smile.
"But I didn't see her yawn," Natalie pondered. "I think you were trying to do something else." Prem and Heer both stared wide eyed at the little girl. "Do you really really really like her?"
Prem glanced at Heer and then hesitantly answered, "Yees."
Natalie's eyes twinkled with clarity as the corners of her mouth curled upward into a knowing grin, "You were trying to kiss her weren't you? Daddy does it to Mommy all the time. Mommy says when you really really really like someone...when you love someone you do that. So that means you love her, right?"
Prem and Heer both found themselves rather speechless in front of the inquisitive five year old. Natalie smiled brightly at them satisfied she had unraveled their secret but stood there waiting for a confirmation of her detective skills. "Natalie..." her grandmother called as she walked to the front. "Grandpa has a job for you to do." The five year old nodded and skipped to the back of the boat. Prem politely smiled and murmured, "I need to use the washroom. Excuse me."
Mrs. Stevenson smiled and handed Heer one of the wine glasses in her hand, "Pinot noir."
"Thank you," Heer replied.
"I hope Natalie wasn't disturbing you two," Mrs. Stevenson said. Heer choked on her wine and coughed. "Oh dear, didn't mean to catch you off guard. You two are dating, aren't you? I mean I just assumed." Heer patted her upper chest trying to gain control of her coughing. She really didn't know how to respond to such a question. "I apologize...me and my big mouth...Joseph is always telling me I pry too much. Didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable."
"Is is that noticeable?" Heer finally asked.
Mrs. Stevenson smiled, "There's a sparkle in his eye, a spring in his step, and a brightness in his smile when he's around you. And you simply glow when he's near. It's unmistakable."
"It is?" Heer replied.
The elderly woman placed her hand on her arm in a motherly manner and said, "He's a keeper. But I think you already know that." Heer shyly smiled in acknowledgment. Their conversation was interrupted when they heard Mr. Stevenson yelling that dinner was ready. "Come, my dear," she said. "I don't know about you but I'm starving."

(oh, I just realized I didn't comment on anyone's comments...I'll go do that...oops 😛)
So wasn't probably the romance you PH crazies were hoping for but I thought I just focus on the normal sweet moments that most couples have. And we are right on track on my promise I should be able to wrap this all up in the next two chapters ...I'm surprise since I tend to write way too much and have to keep pushing things back.

Grace my dear, you almost gave me heart attack with your Heer's fantasy about Prem. Not only was I 😳 but I was 😍. I have to admit Heer always had great fantasy about Prem, even on the show.
But what really had my heart beating so phast, that I almost passed out, was this part:Heer helped him remove his jacket and noticed how his white shirt clung to his muscular build. Her eyes lingered on his chest noticing how transparent the fabric around that area had become.Yeah, I am still 😍. Lucky Heer 😛.Ok, what is with Prem and eyelashes 😆. When he pulled Heer so close, I thought for sure he was going to kiss her. That was scene was funny.Prem and Heer finally clearing up their misunderstandings was great and sweet. I was glad they were not mad at each other. Also, one thing to say about your romantic PH scene is that, the best part of fighting is making up 😆 😳 😃. Loved their making up scenes very much 😃.Meet scenes were very cute. I loved how Preet watch Meher sleep. Their conversation about how many children they want was priceless. You really had me fooled in the beginning of their scene.Great update Grace. Thanks for the PM. Now, I can't wait until Preet, Harman and the rest of the family finds out what is in Prashant safe. I hope they they don't get caught.
