The lucky girl who's chosen to play the grown up Anandi on a tete-e-tete with Tellybuzz…

Pratyusha Banerjee, the bong beauty who bagged the role of post-leap Anandi of Colors' Balika Vadhu is super excited about landing this much coveted offer. She is full of beans and cheerfully talks about how 'wished for but unexpected' her new job is for her!

Over to Pratyusha…

First of all congrats for bagging this role it's a huge responsibility, how are you feeling?

I am on top of world! I am very excited! I will give my 100 percent for this show!

How will be the grown up Anandi?

The basic thing will be same. Grown up Anandi will be crispy but she will be soft spoken and a few other changes which every grown up married woman undergoes for her family and her husband will be evident in her.

Are you nervous because little Anandi has done a great job?

No, I am not at all nervous. Anandi is a fabulous actress infact on the other hand I am very excited.

Tell us about your background.

I am a Bengali girl. I belong to Jamshedpur. I did my studies in Kolkata from St. Xavier's College.

Were you interested in acting since childhood?

Not really… I've always been into cultural activities since childhood. I am a trained classical dancer. I did theater once so I thought why not try to get into acting and I tried and I got Balika Vadhu (smiles).

When you used to watch Balika Vadhu did it ever cross your mind that one day you will be Anandi…

You won't believe, yes I actually thought that this Anandi will some or the other day grow up and since I am in Jamshedpur maybe I can get to play her.

So how did you bag this role?

I sent my Portfolio to them and then I got a call for audition. So I came to Mumbai. I was given a script and I had to face the camera. Was nervous but gave my best and got selected.

This is your last year so how are you coping up with your studies?

Studies are important. I am completing my TY through distance education.

Tell us about your family?

I am the only child of my family and I live with my parents and paternal grandparents.

Why do you think people have voted you as older Anandi?

I think I am quite similar to Anandi. It will be very challenging for me to play this role because people have voted me. First of all I have to say thank you to all of them for voting me and I will stand true to their expectations.

What was your family's reaction when you told them about acting?

Initially they were very shocked but they always trusted me a lot and supported me in my every decision and now when they see me on screen they are very happy.

Your opinions on the issue of 'Child Marriage'. Your take on 'Balika Vadhu'?

Balika Vadhu was made with the message of discouraging child marriage and also it was shown what consequence the girl has to face. So I just want to give message that child marriage is really bad. What is the use of spoiling a 9 year old girl's life?

You have already started shooting so how are you finding the overall experience?

The people are really very sweet here. All of them are very co operative. I've never had any problems but I miss home very much.

How did you prepare yourself for this character?

I love carrying this outfit and it didn't take much effort from me for this role.

Your earliest performance?

I did one Kalidas play when I was 17, that was my first step towards acting.

Tell us about your first shot.

My first shot was my entry where I am waiting for Jagdish, that was shot in Rajasthan.

If not an actor what will you choose to be?

If not acting then I would be a singer 'cause I am a trained singer.

Ujjain boy Shashank Vyas has stepped into "Balika Vadhu", Colors' popular show on child marriage, as the grown up Jagiya.

Ever since Jamshedpur's Pratyusha Banerjee replaced Avika Gor as Anandi, viewers have been eagerly waiting to see who will replace Avinash Mukherjee as the older Jagiya, her husband.

Vyas, 23, says he is confident he will do justice to the character.

"I am grateful to god that he has given me the opportunity to showcase my talent with India's most loved and popular show. My first day at the shoot was a dream come true, as I was welcomed with open arms to the 'Balika Vadhu' family. I go through my script thoroughly before delivering my shot to ensure that I give my best shot," Shashank said in a statement.

"I am confident that I can do justice to Jagiya's character, which was popularised by Avinash Mukherjee," he added.

Shashank said he and Pratyusha hope to create the same magic with their chemistry as Avika and Avinash did.

"Pratyusha and I are working hard to create the same magic which Avika and Avinash presented to the viewers. I am sure our hard work and dedication will pay off and we will be blessed and loved by the audience."

Jagya's already fond of his Anandi

Unlike other actors who claim that they always dream of pursuing acting, Shashank Vyas never thought he would actually become one.

The young guy, who plays the grown-up Jagya on Balika Vadhu, had acted in a few plays while in school and college. "But I had never given acting a serious thought," he says. He took his MBA entrance exams in Ujjain where he belongs, but wasn't getting a college of his choice. "So it was in January 2009 that I came to Mumbai. I gave a lot of auditions and did my share of struggle before the role of Jagya came to me." And no, the thought that Anandi's role in the show was more prominent, was not a deterrent. "If that was the case, then I wouldn't have been here at all," he adds.

And in this little time that he has been shooting for the show, he's become good friends with the grown-up Anandi ' Pratyusha Bannerjee. "She's a very nice girl and I'm very fond of her. She's quiet and talkative," he says. Isn't that a contradiction? "Not really," he quips, "Jab bolna chahiye tab chup rehti hai, aur jab chup rehna chahiye, tab bolti hai!"

Colors' Diwali special to see many celebrities performing on one platform...

With Star Plus and Zee TV gearing up for their respective Diwali Special episodes, COLORS also plans for a Dhamaal show to celebrate in style the festival of lights.

A source says, "Actors like Nandish Sandhu (Veer of Uttaran), Aditya Redij (Raghav of Na Aana Iss Desh Ladoo), Gaurav Khanna, Rashmi Desai (Tapasya of Uttaran), Pratyusha Banerjee (Anandi of Balika Vadhu), Shashank Vyas (Jagya of Balika Vadhu) will be the celebrities who will perform for the Diwali special episode. The rehearsals are still on, and the shooting will take place on the 25th of this month. However, the telecast date is not finalized yet. Each of the celebrity has been given a specific concept for their performance. Some of them will perform on Lovey-dovey songs while others will be performing Tandav for the show."

We contacted Aditya Redij to know more on the show and he says, "Yes, In spite of my broken leg I am rehearsing for the show, don't know how I am going to manage it all."

Talking about his performance he says, "Nandish, I and Gaurav Khanna will be performing an act where there would be a tussle between good and the evil and we have to perform Tandav for that. I am very excited and am looking forward the actual performance."

We tried calling Rashmi Desai but she remained unavailable for the comment.

Gaurav Khanna says, "Yes, I will be performing for this Diwali special act but right now, I am busy with my new show on Zee TV. I don't get enough of time to rehearse. Let's see how it shapes up."

TV's New Showstoppers

They packed their bags and moved to Mumbai in search of a new life, changing their destiny and the industry. Prepared to return from the dead, age overnight and work 16 hours a day, they are willing to stretch themselves as much as the viewers' credulity. Driven by their passion for fame, they don't have time to mourn the loss of the simple life.

"I have auditioned for more than 70 ads and serials in the past one year. Balika Vadhu did not happen by chance; I really had to struggle," says Shashank Vyas. Hailing from Ujjain, Vyas plays the new Jagiya in Balika Vadhu. "At times, the loneliness gets to me. But after working for 14 hours at a stretch and commuting for four hours everyday, I have no time to brood," he adds.

These actors are trying to adapt to the city-that-never-sleeps life of Mumbai and have no plans of pursuing a career in Bollywood right now. From renting homes to buying groceries, they are enjoying every bit of their life. The small town actors come with a clear intention of making it big and have no starry airs.

It is the first few months that are trying. Odd jobs and auditions for advertisements and serials keep the actors busy. But some have been lucky in the first year itself, like the Balika Vadhu couple Vyas and Pratyusha Banerjee from Jamshedpur, who plays the new Anandi.
