The three ladies come downstairs, all looking lovely. Everyone's eyes light up ' that was nice to see. Then Sajjan Singh King of Insensitive, offering his own superior ring to Arushi;🤢 thankfully Shyamji steps in and deflects that move with a firm but polite refusal. Aman lets out a small smile of relief and gladness.
SS then asks for liquor and claps for the nautch girl. The Thakur men enjoy the dance but not very many other people. (Aside: Didn't they have time to choreograph the dance thoroughly because strobe editing is a rather shoddy way to keep beat, isn't it. Anyway, Mink gets to touch Krishna baba which makes her Current Reigning Public Enemy 😛😛😉)
The IG, who was earlier stopped by his wife from attacking SS, manages to regain his self control and is still striving to let this engagement pass without further mess up. But is that possible with SS around? No. So Thakur Sajjan Singh, the man who has convinced his children that Allahabad ran by HIS rules, comes into his grovelling, snivelling mode. He tackles the IG again, telling him that now that they are related, everything should be alright for him. That whatever 'chote mote' cases have been piled up against him and Shakti should be swept away. "Whatever gave you the idea that I would do that for you?" the IG wanted to know. 'Of course you will,' SS told him, 'this is such a small matter for you!'🤢
The IG is clenching his jaw with fury. For an upright man of ideals, it is beyond his forbearance to listen to such suggestions. He starts to shout.
SS is dismayed ' this was not the reaction he was expecting. So he tries to calm him down ' let us sit down and talk this over. Whatever you want will be at your doorstep before you've had time to yell for it. Bribery. This is the limit. Enraged, the SD Mathur tells him he could have him arrested for what he has just said.
Entry Cue: Clueless Hero
Krishna jumps in - berating Mathur Sr for insulting his honourable father. The IG is taken aback. I can show you the cases piled up against your honourable father and brother, he tells him. Krishna raises an imperative hand - I know all about them and in any case, no one has been able to do anything about them so far. Raised eyebrows all around. SS is aghast - as it is, matters have not gone according to plan! Why throw down this gauntlet and have the IG begin to hunt him down from the very next day? He tries to shush Krishna but his son, ever concerned about pride, family and relationships, is on a roll. This is not your court or police station - this is a family space and an engagement is taking place - you have no call to insult my father in this way. My father is thrilled about this engagement, it is because he is so happy with it that he has not taken umbrage to your insults! 😲
Senior Mathur acknowledges the rightness of this family sentiment by looking away - he is also perturbed slightly by the impropriety of this fracas but how to explain to this young man wrapped in cotton wool that the altercation was forced on him? Who is going to tell Krishna that his father has had just one agenda ever since he heard about the IG?
Krishna, Shakti, Komal and Thakurain are angry, but SS isn't. He is under no illusion about his 'power' - he knows how hollow it is, how it can crumble in the face of a higher power. His family doesn't know it. They believe what he has been telling them for years - that he has been riding on Thakur pride and honour, that he's a strong force that will not be defeated. SS tells the IG very humbly that if his presence is annoying him, he will leave. Krishna is spluttering in disbelief!😲 Why is his father, Thakur Sajjan Singh, backing off? Why is he leaving the field? Why is he not raising Cain as he does for every real and perceived insult? What is happening?
I think it was to Krishna's credit that he jumped in there, trying to protect and defend his father. At least it did credit to his heart if not his mind. SS, who has cried himself hoarse that his son has left his side, should have been happy.
I felt that the IG was the one person who understood Krishna perfectly yesterday. He knows that there are several cases against SS and Shakti and none at all against Krishna. That tells its own tale. For a young man born and raised in the midst such rampant abuse of power NOT TO USE IT speaks either of sterling character or weakness. Krishna is certainly not weak - his defence of his father was instinctive, heartfelt and very right in its place - and the Mathur sr IMO lost no time making up his mind about him. He knew he was encountering a rare type. Here was a lotus that was unaffected by the muck it grew out of.
But what can one say about Krishna's ability to delude himself? But the truth is, he cannot see. For everything his father does, Krishna has his own spin on it. My father is loving, he is powerful but he is upfront, he is brave, he values family, he is charming, he is open-hearted, he is generous. There is nothing deceitful about my father, he has strong values about tradition... my father is not manipulative, my father loves me, he does everything with a noble purpose. My father is not an ordinary criminal, he's just a man who knows how to make his way in the world.
Krishna, by some magic, has all the right values himself. He has somehow brought himself up on a diet of ideals - high ideals of love, family values, honour, the obligations of power, marriage vows. And no matter what has happened in his life, he has MANAGED to make events fit his version of how things should be. He has managed to interpret his father according to his own ideals and he has even managed to convince himself that his own ideals come from his father.
This is a deep rooted delusion and so strong that it makes me fear for Krishna. How badly does he need to believe it? What happens if he is MADE to face the truth? When will he face it?
Pratigya cannot talk him out of it, she cannot simply 'tell' him the truth. How is she going to react today?
